Also I would put a battery on it and take the spark plugs out and have them hooked up and put the end of the spark plug on the motor block and see if it sparks and also clean the carburetor or carburetors and see if it will start out of the water the shut it of pretty quick.
Definitely give it back, it's rare to meet good folks in 2022 and that dude seems like a great dude, just gave you a boat for free! That's good folks right there
You imagine someone you enjoy watching on yt comes to your place grabs your old crusty boat restores it and brings it up to date and fills it with all kinds of googan fishing gear then just brings it back to you and says YO!!! LETS GO FISHING!! That would be some wholesome stuff right there.
shout out to kevin, lojo u should paint it the googan colors, get some googan decal, stock it up with googan baits and give it back to kevin and his pops , shout out from brasil
@@hunterguiswite his project boat sunk in Lojos backyard so they tried to haul it out with a forklift and tore it apart in the process. Lojo then bought Ayo a new project boat which works well but the evinrude outboard is a little wonky.
I restore old bass boats a pretty good bit. I've done a 92 hydra sports and a 81 ranger recently. I have a 78 ranger now to do. First buy hydraulic steering. Upgrade the wheel bearing before using. Do a compression test on all cylinders of the motor. Then start on the cosmetic side
LOJO Pick up a nice cape for the Project Boat, you get a tuxedo, then go to the Opera, Phantom of the Opera, you have a good base to work with, as in AYO's project boat check the transom, walk on the floor looking for soft spots. This boat should clean up well. Even live well's. Great content, you have a good camera man, he will be great soon . I do like that You and AYO guest appearances on each other's channels. Ahoy Captain. Dale Nickel Southern Wisconsin in Janesville.
The way to test a transum is to stand on the motor or put one leg on the lower unit and jiggle it and bounce it if it does not crack or make weird noises your good
If the keel has been beached enough you will want to sand out the area around it and sand it, build it back up with fiberglass and resin, sand that smooth then paint/gel coat... Go over the entire bottom pushing hard with a screwdriver. If you can punch a hole the fiberglass is thin and should be built up. Floor stringers are probably wood and probably rotted. We ran into that and ended up cutting the top molded fiberglass section off the hull and removing the flotation foam, redoing the entire support structure and a new piece of wood in the transom. This is a good time to reinforce the hull fiberglass from the inside! Poured in new flotation foam and cu that flush with the top of the stringers Lowered it back on, fiberglassed it back together, sanded smooth, put on a new Gel coat and clear coat... Took us a year to rebuild it. That was 20 years ago and that friend is still using that boat!
Best of luck on the restoration logo! I say give ol’ Kevin the boat back better then ever since he was nice enough to just give you a boat! Give back to the man who made this exact project possible! Either way you go I’m sure it’ll end in great hopes! Keep up the good work man love the channel !
Love the project. I've restored several of those johnson/evenrude motors and they'll run forever once you get it up and running. Plenty of parts out there for the most part. Be careful of the throttle box. Some of those 80s throttle boxes have springs and parts that will simply drop out if you're not careful when you disassemble. I learned the hard way myself.
Look at ur gas lines and make sure gas is going to the motor so it does run if that is one of the problems should always check that and overall great boat ready to see the final product when it’s done
Watching AYO work on Itty Bitty got me started on subscribing to your channel and FishingwithNorm and others. Really looking forward to your restoration. May I suggest after the rebuild is complete you have a challenge with this boat, the Itty Bitty and Norm's giant John Boat. The biggest variety of fish, the biggest single fish and the heaviest total catch could make for some great videos. Once the challenge is done you can have an online auction with the proceeds donated to the poor folks in Ukraine. Love your videos. Give my best regards to Badge and Norm.
Invest in the RIGHT tools! Just an example, I was able to wet sand my entire fiberglass boat by hand to restore the metal flake, but I’ll never do it again. Took years off my hands and weeks off my life, the right tools would’ve had it done it a few days! Good luck, I’m pumped!
I used to do fiberglass and gel coat repairs and would love to help but I'm all the way down in Naples FL. Maybe once you get into it I'll see something I can give some input on. Good luck and I can't wait to watch the rebuild.
I helped a friend do one 20 years ago... we ended up cutting the interior molded section off the hull where they were originally bonded together, all new wood stringers(I would go aluminum now, or carbon fiber), new flotation foam poured in then we bonded the top back on. Sande it all smooth, repaired the keel where it had been beached a lot(next time I would add an aluminum protector over the fiberglass, wasn't my boat so...) and then did a new gel coat. Turned out nice, friend still uses it, I went fishing with him twice last year. Floor is still solid, transom still good(we replaced the wood in it). Al new wiring for modern electronics and trolling motor... it was basically a brand new bat when we got done. Took a year of nights and weekends, he bought a gantry crane for his shop to lift the boat off the trailer and put it on a jig to spin it for bottom access.
Currently doing a full rebuild on a evinrude 140 in Australia. Parts are hard to come by here and lots of salt water. I'd recommend pulling the head and giving the carb a spray down old fuel and oil don't do anything favours
Here's wishing you the best of luck with your restoration project. About 2 years ago I bought a pontoon boat off a guy for 3 grand. A 1997 Bass Buggy 18. It needed some TLC for sure, but she was still water ready and the motor ran. Fast forward to 2022 and after about another 3 thousand or so and she's the best fishing boat I could have ever hoped for. I'm still making a few changes here and there but the vast majority of the work is done. She's in nearly all my videos, lol.
Awesome opportunity! A couple of ideas! Make the deck bigger and add another seat for a passenger! Rod storage, tackle storage. Good luck and congrats!💯👍🤙
AWESOME BOAT!! you should hit up retrobassin... great youtuber and has several vintage boats beautifully restored. Would be super cool just to have him take a look
Start from the top down change all the wiring in the boat change the fuel line a brand new gas tank and definitely make sure the transom is solid inside the engine well and whatever hardware you use make sure it's stainless steel..
I think it would be cool to give it to Andrew or do a random parking lot giveaway…pack it full of Googan swag and get Yak, Norm, and Dev involved too! I think it would be really cool. I can’t wait to see it all done up!
