Omg the way she delivered the word "envy" at the end. Like a sharp knife. Brilliant woman.

Hey CBC. A Canadian here who has been living in Europe for the past ten years . Perhaps you could be so kind as to mention the journalist interviewing Joan Fontaine.
I was a young girl at the time of this interview. Hana Gartner is one of my favourite CBC Journalists of all time. I’m quite proud of the fact that she’s one of ours.
I grew up watching her. Fantastic journalism and one of the best!

She and her sister Olivia look so much alike and I love all their movies. Cool ladies. Too bad they didn't talk.

He did look guilty throughout the movie. But I see how they didn't want Cary Grant as a murderer.

I LOVE her integrity just as a person, in how she brought every single one of those questions back down into reality. She was nice and never got ruffles but she put everything back into perspective.

I liked Joan Fontaine. Joan was excellent as Jennifer Jones' older sister in Tender Is The Night Joan came across in interviews as highly intelligent and confident. K hoped that Olivia DeHavilland Joan (De Havilland) Fontaine would reconcile. True, Joan spared her Sister nothing in her book "No Bed Of Roses ,but when Olivia's son died, Joan sent flowers and a note and Olivia never responded. Two great Academy Award Winning stars!

As I wrote for the other clip featuring this interview, the feud between Joan Fontaine and her older sister Olivia de Havillnad may help them live long. Both are amazing actresses; they must live up to 100 to witness their centennial birthday parties.
By the way, who is the interviewer here? Her glasses are definitely too big.

In the several interviews I've seen, she tends to be argumentative of every observation made of her and every natural conclusion drawn from her own quotes. I suspect she was a difficult person with which to deal.

    • @texan903

There were a ton of misconceptions about her, I believe, lots of misinformation. Having to clarify herself in every interview could make her come across as defensive.

First of all, so called 'Joan Fontaine" wasn't her real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name, Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland. Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Studio or Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?! The ONLY reason a name change should be done, is for a woman when she gets married. If a woman gets married and DOESN'T change her name, then she doesn't accept the sanctity of marriage or respect for her husband.
