Great stories. There's a story in my family where my grandpappy knew a family when he was a kid, the father was a really grumpy mean guy who loved taking care of his donkeys and never missed feeding and watering them, getting up before dawn every morning to bring them their food. So one of these mornings he got jumped by something in the dark and he tussled with it, unable to see anything. He remembers getting bit and scratched and he wrestled with it grabbing what felt like a big leathery wing and yanked it hard. Whatever it was screamed and ran off and so did he, running back to his house covered in blood. He never fed his donkeys before sunrise again after that.

Story 3: hello, Filipino here. If you ever go to a province in the Philippines and you see a black boar or a black dog at night acting strangely, you RUN. That's an aswang, which is like the Filipino equivalent of a skinwalker. It's a witch that walks and interacts with humans during the day, but prowls as a black animal during the night to prey on sleeping humans, especially pregnant women.

Could also be The manananggal. It has a long proboscis like tongue. But depending on where you are in the Philippines the aswang is very similar to the manananggal. Aswang can shape shift into animals as well. With those 2 it's best to have salt and garlic, esp if it is manananggal, you find the lower part (the torso) and pour salt in it. Decapitation (aswang) and rebuking helps too.

Filipino here, in story 3 the Aswang that attacked the 2 men was specifically called the Manananggal (self segmenter) a shapeshifter who can transform into anything like a vampire, or ghoul but is generally a human in disguise during the day. Typically at night and alone the Manananggal splits its lower and upper half ready to search for food specifically animals however pregnant women is their most favourite since they crave the unborn fetus. The tongue you said was actually a well known feature of the Manananggal which it uses to suck out blood from its victims and the fetus of sleeping pregnant women.

I have noticed in alot of these stories these creatures are scared of weapons. Makes you think that maybe they are being hunted or they might have been hunted for. We are missing so much history, i want to know if they are actually real. Then i will know never too go into the woods.... period.

I really want to believe these are true. But the WW2 one has me doubting. The Americans didn’t retake the Philippines until 1944. So the dates are not lining up. Maybe it’s some misremembering. But still, it can ruin the immersion.
