Some people don't realize cats can learn things just as fast as dogs. Our cat knows, "Get down." Of course, he keeps going up, but has learned to get down when asked. We also tell him he is a good boy when he does it. He does a lot of watching me cook from on top of our fridge, which is okay with me. Mommy's little helper. I had to laugh at your suggestion of "just ignore it." I used to play dead for over an hour every morning with my last cat because he wanted to eat. Thanks for watching! While it can take time, ignoring an unwanted behavior will work. The issue is that there will be an extinction burst wherein the cat's behavior will ramp up before it goes away. This often makes people think that their efforts are not working, but they are.
