Massive gong fan.seen em loads thru the 90s.in Manchester and liverpool.even my home town in st.helens.went up and met him after.lovely guy too.r.i.p.daevid Allen.
A glimmer here of what Gong were like live despite the 60s camera work and sound from the sax players brother. The whole essence of this number was the pounding driving rhythm section. Still thanks for posting.
But unfortunately he just died 3 days ago from a cancer...RIP. I discovered the band in the late seventies when I was 16/17 years old...Didn't listen to Gong for a long time, but lately I burnt their 2 last good albums from 2000 and 2009.
Fuck. I wish I could remember my fave Daevid Allen gig. 1987? Live in London at some sort of church in the Ladbroke Grove area. Lots of hippy/punk people being fed great free food by the most friendly locals......OH! Ladbroke Grove Tabernacle! :) It was amazing. Daevid asked us all to om the roof off and you have never seen so many people, black and white om and party so much! :)
@valmergio I don't know what it is exactly, but it's what Daevid uses for what he and Steve Hillage call "Glissando Guitar". Basically, he's using it as a slide.
No sorry, not a vibrating bar... there are magnets in there, which makes the string vibrate as long and strong you put the bow to the strings. I´d like to have one too, but they are not cheep for me.
This is amazing did you film it? seriously great footage :),I was about 5 down from the front and to see Steve Hillage back on stage with Daevid and Gylli was pure magic. Not many musicians can stick a huge grin on my face in the same way ,I think it's the fact they somehow managed to cut out all the BS and remained 'true'.to themselves as well as their freaks Lol ,fans I mean. Hugs to DA who no doubt now lives on that little green planet .....The way Steve Hillage was grinning his head off was very contagious, lovely stuff;)
Neither - it was Ian East. Chris Taylor on drums, Miquette Giraudy on keys, Dave Sturt on bass, Steve Hillage on guitar and of course Gilli and Daevid. Going to see them again in November.
Would have loved to have seen Hillage with D/A, sadly religion messed up every opportunity of this happening for me!!! Will be seeing Gong in Cardiff in a few weeks BUT wont be the same without those genius's

I just love this band, with any lineup! Steve hillage back on guitar? Incredible.

It's called an E-Bow, Edge uses them a lot. It's like a vibrating bar that makes the notes sustain.

Awesome. Daevid Allen has been at this since the mid 60s. A good opening band would be Butthole Surfers.

Too bad the drums don't sound as crisp as they ought to. I still can't figure out the beat. Steve's guitar - awesome as usual.
