    Today we will get acquainted with the diary of an officer of the Red Army. Diaries of officers and soldiers of the Red Army are a rarity. Therefore, it is of great value. The history of this diary is amazing: it was captured by the Germans, translated and studied. Later, after the capture of the headquarters of the German troops, he was already transferred back and studied by Soviet intelligence officers.

    Two of my Dads Uncles served in the German Army on the Eastern Front...both were captured...survived captivity and returned to Germany in 1949. I was born and raised in Canada and the only thing I was told by my Grandmother is that when they came home they were in " a wretched state" and not "recognizable." War is hell.

    I have read quite a few books and diaries written by soldier survivors of the Eastern Front. It is very striking how much more insightful, observant and analytical they are about the folly of this blood-soaked armageddon that any of the generals or commanders on the front. Communism/Fascism, what a sad fate for the armies of both sides that awaits them in this Eastern Front campaign meat grinder. It seems here that the Ukrainian peasants by their lack of generosity to the Russian soldiers harbored no real gratitude towards them. Under this foreboding it is very interesting how this plays out today with the "special operation" carried out by Russia to invade the Ukraine.

    • @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23
      @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Socialist doesn't mean communist. So the fact that there where still private (and I use that word charitably) business, doesn't mean that Nazi Germany wasn't socialist.
      The abolishment of private property rights, the nationalisation of most industries
      And the leading corporations becoming subsidiaries of the state and the states ownership of the national market by definition meant that Nazi Germany was a socialist state. They where also very nationalist.
      Hence them being National Socialists.
      That's not a double speak name, that's just a name that is accurate in it's description.

    This is actually a diary from a Soviet Ukrainian soldier. I suspect that the Russian have always been using its ethnic minority people to be their cannon fodder whenever possible, considering the total Ukrainian losses were between 40 to 44 percent of the total casualties of the USSR during WWII. Same is also true during the current Russian invasion into Ukraine as Russian minority groups have suffered the most casualties based on percentage of population.

    • @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23
      @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The ukrianian Military dead total was 1.3m
      The russian Military dead total was 5.7m
      The entire Soviet Military dead total was 8.7m
      How is 1.3m 40-44% of 8.7m?
      It's not even 40% of 5.7m
      And the fact that the Soviets suffered some of their worst defeats in ukraine would say that 1.3m was lucky.
      Regardless of your feelings on the current war, do not use propoganda to distort history.

    • @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23
      @davidbowie50yearsofbowiean23 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And if you are going to say you are including Civilian deaths.
      Then in total the number comes to about 30.1% of total Soviet casualties.
      And since the Ukrianians where the USSR's second largest ethnic group outside of Russia
      combined with the fact that some of the heaviest fighting took place in Ukraine
      Combined with the fact the Germans sent all the grain in Ukraine to Germany causing a famine
      Combined with the fact Ukriane had a large Jewish minority group
      Means that 30.1% is probably to be expected and isn't being used as cannon fodder.
      And especially not being cannon fodder for the Russians since the head of state of the USSR wasn't Russian, the second most powerful Soviet general was Polish and the fourth was Ukrianian.
      Which means that even if they where cannon fodder (which the math proves they where not) then it wasn't Russian making them so.

    • @BanjoLuke1

      The story of Ukraine on WW2 is nuanced but also ugly. Following the Holodomor, very many Ukrainians were very anti-USSR.
      Ukraine was also a hotbed of antisemitism and had long been so.
      The arrival of German troops gave anti-Soviet Ukranians the chance to seek revenge on their Stalinist former overlords.
      It also gave Ukranian antisemites the chance to deal brutally with their own prejudices.
      There were many heroic Ukranians engaged in the War between 1941 and 1945.
      But there were many whose actions remain a terrible stain on their country's history.
      One cannot generalise.
      It is nuanced.
      There were similar situations in Poland and Belarus amongst other regions.

    12:17-12:46:
    the reason Y so many russians and jews lost their lives during this war, because a large number of Russian jews in key elements of Stalin's (Satan's) govt took part in the largest, single
    mass massacre of human lives just a decade before this war. 24 million Soviets and 6 million Jews (most of them dying on the eastern front.) Ironic, because an entire continent of Europe, and they comprised of half of casualties. Stalin did coin the phrase "concentration camp." Although, looking back on history, it is odd to say this was because of karma. If you study all the "civilization" that came to be who have blood on thier hands, taking part in massacres that killed millions, or a large percentage of thier populations, those who took part in a massacre rarely ever saw any sentence against the crimes they committed. A few of Hitler's inner circle died, but far more Germans escaping to south america by a couple of thousand. I would think because Jews are the descendants of Christ and are planet is being watched by those who created it, Jews are put at a higher level than all other species of humans. Stalin's purge killed millions upon millions and up until WW II it was the worst atrocity one single individual took upon human life. WW I was a collective effort. it may be just a coincidence, but looking back on history, it's hard to say, "IT'S NOT."
