I don't understand why you seem to suggest that soul mates need to forgive and reconnect the relationship. Do you not think that sometimes one of the parties kind of blows the relationship and it is finished for this lifetime?
For me, my Path to Enlightenment and standing in my Self Worth has allowed me to release the past hurts and realize my immaturity and other toxic traits that harmed my relationship. I take full responsibility for my part in these relationships. Because of this, I recognize their actions/reactions, but hold no anger/resentment toward anyone. We are all here to learn and grow. My Path forward, if anyone from my past steps into my life, is to allow them time to speak their truth and then I will speak to what I have learned and been blessed with thus far. If they seek an apology, after we speak our truths, I will make it very clear that the person I was in our relationship needed to grow up and learn to love herself. In that light, I would apologize for not being capable of unconditional Love and understanding during our relationship. I would hope we could be friends and grow from there.
