Unfortunately, many airlines now take adavantage of a very high demand after almost 3 years of the pandemic, and raised their prices, while reducing service in economy class. 1. I absolutely agree that the quality of Lufthansa's in-flight service and especially catering has declined disappointingly in recent years (since the beginning of the pandemic). Lufthansa needs to work on the quality of its service in Economy. 2. I don't know which prices you are referring to. As someone who travels regularly between Germany and South America, I cannot confirm that LATAM is "a few hundred euros" cheaper. I just checked again and Lufthansa is now a rather cheap provider for flights to Brazil at regular prices (my considerations do not include special offers, of course). 3. On long-haul flights, there are differences in comfort between airlines, even in Economy. Let's take LATAM and Lufthansa as an example: I consider the Economy cabin on Lufthansa (they use 747s on flights to Brazil) to be more comfortable than on LATAM (777 on flights to Frankfurt), as the cabin seems wider. In addition, I think the service quality of the flight attendants is higher with Lufthansa than with LATAM.

It should be a pleasure to fly on such a beautiful aircraft, man the food served looked terrible, really needs an improvement, I agree a 2nd hot meal for an 11hr flight is almost a must.
This video is so true, I've done this last month. Going with the Swiss run flight (777) via Zurich is a day and night difference in basically every metric compared to this.
I would like to say something quickly about the German people in the comments here. May I applaud you for not getting uptight and taking this review personally. Only the Germans would have the nobility to take this in their stride and strive to improve. You should be proud of that ability. Big love from the UK
Fantastic that Lufthansa are still operating the A340 and 747 800 and next year A380 but the food offerings in economy look pretty sad in comparison to say BA. I certainly hope they up the standard very soon.
As a German I really tried to like Lufthansa The first time I flew with them (11 hours as well) I was pretty hyped up, since it was the most expensive offering out of all the other airlines. It was a pretty big let down even comparing it with gulf air the year before as that flight was almost 50% less than Lufthansa, but was way better in nearly all areas
I am completely in awe of how for almost eleven hours flight time. You. only got a total of 2 meals! But then why am I not surprised. I live in Frankfurt and for me LH is kind of a curse and a blessing at the same time. I do not have any other options but to fly LH here and there (at least within Europe) because they are of course the largest by network. But never would I fly LH for long haul flights and spend so much for such shitty service. I really am lost for words for this airline.
The real problem is Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme. They used to have an attractive one, but around the same time when American, Delta and United unisono demolished their competitive programs into the disgusting shit which it is now, LH also changed theirs into what we have now. Completely unattractive. I travel A LOT, A LOT. I am probably beating a few CEO's when it comes to "time spent not being home", but I only do project-specific one-project-at-a-time roundtrips or multi-segment trips in one specific target region. This means: I fly somewhere for an entire week, often have to sacrifice 1/2 to 1 Saturday and 1/2 to 1 Sunday to travel to and from the airport, and then I stay at my destination without flying around there. This accumulates miles, lots of miles, yes, but NOT ENOUGH ANYMORE to get any decent status. Despite being a superfrequent and superloyal international flyer I cannot hit Executive Platinum, Ambassador or whatever despite focussing on one airline / network. It's absolutely insane how they tweaked theiir programs to a very specific kind of frequent flyers which does not really bring that much total cash. At the same time, just 2 days ago on a flight from Dallas to Munich, I sit next to a hot young woman who, judging by what she was doing on her laptop, was working in a typical useless cliché-USA, admin-heavy, e-mail-heavy, blabla-heavy, no GDP-relevance job ...and she was already Executive Platinum just by flying short legs in the USA and Canada. I was grounded from February 2020 to April 2022 due to Covid, and I might manage to hit Platinum with American Airlines this year. They also have diminished the miles you get when flying with a One World partner airline - another blow for regular international frequent flyers. And Lufthansa has done exactly the same. It is super annoying and it makes me hate flying internationally more and more since most companies do not grant business class travel anymore due to personnel cost savings.
In Air Arabia which is a budget airline. You can choose anything while you are getting the ticket. I ordered a chicken tikka sandwich and it was directly from the refrigerator. Though it tasted good but it was cold .
Very shocked at this meal service. A few years ago, the food from Houston to FRA was very good and a full breakfast with sausage plus the A380! But very well made video, thank you!
That pasta at the beginning was just embarrassing and the wrap was even worse! I’ll remember to take my own food if I ever fly with them. Thanks for the fair and well put together report 🙂
O Brasil sempre teve boas empresas aereas: VASP, Cruzeiro, Transbrasil, TAM e a VARIG
Nice seeing you guys in Brazil, if you come back here you should try some of the local Airlines like Azul A330-Neo and their A350 (Probably starting in service next year), and the longest flight performed by a 737MAX8 the Gol flight from BSB (Brasilia) to MCO (Orlando), Latam-Brasil also flies from Brazil to Europe, but their service is standard across all the Airlines of the group so there is not that much to see. Just to let it clear I don't think Latam is bad is just their service is standardized between all of the companies so is not that interesting to watch, a flight from São Paulo to Chile would offer the same experience, Azul on the other hand have a very unique service and is nice to see how they perform.
Of the domestic airlines in Brasil, I find Azul is overall the best but there’s not much in it really they are all just standard airlines. If you’re flying to GRU from another Brasilian airport for your long haul connection you need to use a bus from Azul’s terminal to T3 but it’s no big deal.
Watching this the day after the last 747 got delivered. I flew Lufthansa last year between MAN-FRA, FRA-MAN and on both flights the only thing we got was a bottle of water.
Yes yes I agree view better at the window, awesome take off she awesome in every way , I did fly with Lufthansa from Chicago to Frankfurt , but I got crap seat worse ever, but nice viewing loving the food
This review is so awesome, because you are showing what is flying Lufthansa on economy these days. The fact that you flew on a B747-800 is the least important thing of this viudeo.
If you can, fly Swiss air on long haul flights instead of Lufthansa. It is so much better: 2 hot meals, free snacks during the flight. Lufthansa provided the same level of service in 2019, but turned low cost in the meantime.
@@radekmicka482 No one talks about the flight to Narita, do they? Already in 2018 SWISS had only one breakfast box and on my flights ZRH - GRU and GRU - ZRH in September 2022 they still had these breakfast boxes. See this video from 2018 at minute 5:00 ( th-cam.com/video/leO1PvILIQk/w-d-xo.html )
Far better catering than I experienced on Air Canada on a Montreal - Heathrow flight. No pre-dinner drink service. Dinner not served until 90 minutes into flight. Dinner was main course, bread roll and chocolate brownie only. No salad or cheese. Bottled water was simply labelled 'Eau', so not spring water, merely bottled tap water. Breakfast was a slice of gingerbread. Ironically, although Air Canada were skimping on the catering, they served brand label spirit miniatures rather than out of the large bottle, as Lufthansa did when I last flew long haul with them. The Air Canada light attendant did get 'arsy' though when I asked for another gin and tonic, curtly replying that I'd already had one with dinner service, the one I had to wait 90 minutes into flight for. However bad Lufthansa catering now is, they have a long way to go before the plumb to the depths of Air Canada. The connecting internal Air Canada Rouge flight was even worse. 29" seat pitch and not even a cup of tea or water on a 3 hour flight from Orlando. Air Canada may be cheap, but it's cheap for a reason.
Used Lufthansa last year GRU-LHR business class, no complaints at all but not quite as good as Swiss which is also part of the group. You have to remember that “economy” is just a better name for 3rd class which is exactly what it is.
Flew with Lufthansa from Bangkok to Munich recently. It was just terrible. Especially the breakfast. We were served a breadroll which was still frozen. On there: Cheese, mushrooms and a tiny bit of cream chease. I mean how weird is that combination? It was ineatable.
You've to decide, whether a good meal service or a safe flight. For myself I appreciate a comfortable, good and safe flight. The meals offered on board aren't really interesting for me.
Guys you have to remember they’re suppose to be a world class airline so they’ve set the standard. This is a flight review and the food on a flight is indicative of the quality of a flight, especially if it’s an 10hr and 45min flight
@@sokrates3900 No, you DO NOT have to choose between these options. A Safe flight ITS an OBLIGATION! A good meal its needed if the company wants to remain competitive in our market! Lufthansa is one of the most expensive flight companys here in brazil, and with a service in flight like that, I would rather travel with Latam! They treat economy class with some dignity at least!
i flew fra-icn onboard lufthansa's 747-8i and i had a similar experience. dinner wasn't bad but breakfast wasn't good at all. i was expecting better service on my way back from icn to muc (a350-900), but it was pretty much the same, except this time the sandwich was *SOGGY* and every time i think about it makes me want to throw up
My opinion is that the service looks amazing compared with that of most airlines economy classes, including Singapore who used to brag even service other airlines talk about. Lufty still serve after take off aperitif followed with a four course meal with bread and cheese plus dessert. Plus the option to purchase high end cocktails, amazing and innovative branding personel. I look forward to trying them again after quite a few years. Well dome Lufty! Also taking into consideration their impeccable maintenance and training I feel safer. I also suggest their ethics and compliance is second to none with employees treated as human beings. Poor ME airlines staff being spied on and the rest. Enough said. Congrats Lufthansa I say. Shame on you those that bragged they thought they were the best and ow reveal via these you-tubers you aren’t. Have to say Air France economy never disappoints me with the similar level of service and offerings and bread and food is also lovely and underrated. Some airlines have to spend money on marketing, which is total shite, and take that money out of your ticket. Notice the likes of Lufty and Air France don’t need to and spend money on their customers. Ouch the truth hurts!
I fully agree with your comments. I flew HKG FRA end of Nov. 14 hours flight. There were only 2 trolleys (one for each aisle) for the whole economy class. The meal service took an endless time. No choiche for the main course, just dry end cold rice noodles, some salad, a dessert and half a glass of wine. Breakfast was served at the very last moment, consisting in a cold sandwich, a cereal bar and a yogurt. It was clear there had been a crew shortage after covid, but also the quality of food was very poor.
12:52 maybe you were landing in frankfurt early in the morning like 6-7am and usally at that time no one that hungry to eat a full breakfast like omlets& sausages so maybe keeping that in mind the breakfast was very small and a simple meal
2009 i flew europe to mexico. and same this year. Y class meal inedible on both.... Their "food" (you cant even call it that) is a slap in the face to customers.
Great flight. That's unusual, seeing Premium Economy Class Cabin sandwiched between Economy Class Cabin, usually it sandwiched between Business Class and Economy Class.
You didn't say much about the service from the flight attendants. While LH catering is a low point, I find LH service is the worst. In fact it's the only airline that I have ever experienced downright hostile service, and that's across multiple flights as well!
They lost the 5th star, they are now a 4 star airline. Lufthansa went from being one of the best to one of the worst transatlantic airlines in the past few months.
Unfortunately, this is the standard meal in economy seat. Vegeterian pasta ans bread will be served in every long-hour economy seats. You should buy at least premier economy seats in order to eat meat or fish meals.
As someone who does a LOT of home cooking and knows my grocery pricing very well, that main dish would cost me less than a US dollar per person to make. Gosh, I hope they weren't going to break the bank by spending TWO US dollars on the main. And I have never seen a pasta recipe calling for just adding tomato sauce and a tablespoon of peas to some rigatoni and calling it dinner. What garbage and what a disgrace, but considering that Lufthansa just doesn't seem to care about its catering anymore, I can't say I am surprised.
Absolutely, Lufthansa is full of hype. Same with British Airways and they’re two of the European airlines always on the list of ‘SkyTrack’ world’s top airlines. There is nothing top about that economy long haul food.
Hope David / Felix can do flight review on Starlux in future. Recently try Starlux to Taipei, if Eva Air was 5 star, then Starlux are 6 star!! In flight meal just blow me away, economy class meal presentation and taste like business class.
Same as Singapore Airlines where their economy class is today and in my opinion a sub economy and their premium economy is just a classic economy class.
The creature comfort is fine in economy class. However, by the looks of it, Lufthansa is suffering from fiscal issues, given the austere meal service. The dinner would've been awesome with a homestyle lasagna instead of that tiny, pathetic pasta platter. Also, the bread roll, if you can call it that, should've been three times bigger. As for breakfast, eggs and sausages would've been more appropriate, complete with orange juice, fruit plate, a roll, perhaps jam, topped up with coffee or tea. Note to self: when flying Lufthansa economy overseas, bring additional food along! At least the aircraft is great and the crew is professional.
I was very surprised to see the disappointing catering you had on this flight. When I flew LH long haul for the first and so far only time on an A380 from FRA to SIN in mid-2019, the catering was excellent. Maybe that's because LH flights between Germany and SIN are code share with Singapore Airlines.
First of all thanks a lot for another trip report, highly appreciated :) Just want to comment on the other verdicts here on Lufthansa's food catering: I can absolutely agree, the food in Economy, especially on a flight this long is absolutely ridiculous. Small portion, average at best quality and taste, boring und uninspiring presentation.....I couldn't care less for metal cutlery when everything else is bad. I was on a LH 747-8i (FRA-HND) and 744 (KIX-FRA) in 2018, respectively and the food was slightly better (although I chose the Asian meal options). Still way worse, even back then in comparison to AF, KL and even BA in my experience.
I just bought a LH ticket from South Africa to FRA , and it beat the middle east offerings on price . I just want to get there alive and fast , what LH offers . I know what Im getting and I can always handle 12 hours on water alone 🙂

i’ve flown Lufthansa’s 748 economy on 11+ hour flights multiple times and it’s consistently horrible. feels like a waste of an incredible aircraft tbh
Korean Air and air china have their 747 whits wider economies and I see better service. Maybe is not like other Asian airlines, but very good food. You would not go hungry :)
Good to know
@@dennisrettke Swiss is the better option if going long haul to Germany, Austria, Switzerland of course. Much more consistent.
I agree about Lufthansa but to be honest BA food is awful in economy.
I have not fly on 747-8.I have allot on the 747-400.Great work
As a German I really tried to like Lufthansa
The first time I flew with them (11 hours as well) I was pretty hyped up, since it was the most expensive offering out of all the other airlines. It was a pretty big let down even comparing it with gulf air the year before as that flight was almost 50% less than Lufthansa, but was way better in nearly all areas
The more flights spent. The more Places Travelled! Keep it up man!
omg that food surely looks horrendous! I hope you had a Schnitzel with a nice beer when you landed
Lufthansa's old livery was so much more better than their current one
I miss the yellow bird and grey underbelly
Skimping on the gold/yellow paint, skimping on the catering. See a pattern here?
@@JBM425 yeah they are going downhill fr
Thanks god that Onbord delight is over and all the staff is given out for free again 🎉Lufthansa is improving the product in all classes
Interesting to see a section of economy ahead of premium economy!
Wow a 747! Great report Felix!
Awesome a 747 trip!
@@paullewis2413 They are building a monorail now.
I have never flown Lufthansa, and, thanks to reviews like this one, I never will.

This is the new experience. Keep up the good work david.
I just arrived from Singapore a few weeks ago via NRT and SFO on ANA and United
Watching this the day after the last 747 got delivered. I flew Lufthansa last year between MAN-FRA, FRA-MAN and on both flights the only thing we got was a bottle of water.
What are you expecting on a 1:45 h flight?
the only winner in this video is the plane itself.747-8i.Magnificent.Food was average to unacceptable.
Does anyone else also think that Simply Aviation's intro-music is one of the best out there? It's so calming, relaxing and full of good vibes!
Yes yes I agree view better at the window, awesome take off she awesome in every way , I did fly with Lufthansa from Chicago to Frankfurt , but I got crap seat worse ever, but nice viewing loving the food
Lmao that wrap with one slice of cheese inside tho 💀💀💀
I flew Lufthansa from Rio de Janeiro to Munich back in June, worst catering I've ever had...
That is definitely not correct. SWISS also only offers a breakfast box in Economy on these routes.
My experience from the last weekend (Zurich to Narita): hot meal after take off, hot meal before landing (scrambled eggs), snacks in the galley.
@@radekmicka482 No one talks about the flight to Narita, do they? Already in 2018 SWISS had only one breakfast box and on my flights ZRH - GRU and GRU - ZRH in September 2022 they still had these breakfast boxes.

Love your time tags .. easy to skip to the meal svc.! ❤
Brazil 🇧🇷
Love the trip thanks for posting
Excellent video!! Thank you!!
The meals offered for a nearly 11 hour flight were appalling shame on you Lufthansa
You've to decide, whether a good meal service or a safe flight. For myself I appreciate a comfortable, good and safe flight. The meals offered on board aren't really interesting for me.
You know you can order more food, and you have 2 airports to have a meal at.....

Fantastic trip report Felix, though I don’t personally think LH deserves its 5 Start Scamtrax rating.
That’s why it’s in fact been downgraded to 4 stars again.
Air France still is great. Food is great and flight attendants are very nice.
Thanks for the ride.
Dass war ein sehr schönes Video
12:52 maybe you were landing in frankfurt early in the morning like 6-7am and usally at that time no one that hungry to eat a
full breakfast like omlets& sausages so maybe keeping that in mind the breakfast was very small and a simple meal
Thanks so much for the trip, quite unfortunate that the catering was full, I hope the flight attendants were nice? To compliment the catering
2009 i flew europe to mexico. and same this year. Y class meal inedible on both.... Their "food" (you cant even call it that) is a slap in the face to customers.
Great video. Did you have the flight Frankfurt Sao Paulo ?
Great flight. That's unusual, seeing Premium Economy Class Cabin sandwiched between Economy Class Cabin, usually it sandwiched between Business Class and Economy Class.
You didn't say much about the service from the flight attendants. While LH catering is a low point, I find LH service is the worst. In fact it's the only airline that I have ever experienced downright hostile service, and that's across multiple flights as well!
Now I’m desperate to fly on a 747
Can you try Azul's A350 in the future? :) It's our best Brazilian airline
Yes Please
Good luck with your new camera, Felix.
how the hell is Lufthansa a 5 star airline when they serve really disappointing meals?!
They lost the 5th star, they are now a 4 star airline. Lufthansa went from being one of the best to one of the worst transatlantic airlines in the past few months.
Completamente de acuerdo.
I fly theses guys between Spain and Poland. I would never call it a 5-star service. Medicore, I'd say
Aww man no landing, that is okay this has been an excellent video!
Yes, there should be two hot meals on a flight that long. But love the B747-8.
aaaaaaahh...bread roll is so cute
Great trip report as always! Felix, I'm curious: were these the standard meals or did you order special meals (such as vegetarian)?
Super video! 👏
You can be happy that your bread roll was warm. On my flight to Los Angeles in July it was deep frozen😑
I think delta can offer a better meal in economy perhaps
Absolutely, Lufthansa is full of hype. Same with British Airways and they’re two of the European airlines always on the list of ‘SkyTrack’ world’s top airlines. There is nothing top about that economy long haul food.
Hope David / Felix can do flight review on Starlux in future. Recently try Starlux to Taipei, if Eva Air was 5 star, then Starlux are 6 star!! In flight meal just blow me away, economy class meal presentation and taste like business class.
It’s near the top of list of airlines I want to try. I cannot wait for Taiwan to reopen to tourists, I love the country! 🙏
I flew Frankfurt Tampa bifore covid with Lufthansa. There was a second hot meal in both flight!
I guess I’ll find out in Nov. Orlando to Frankfurt. I booked them because they had the only direct flight.
That breakfast wrap made me full on laugh
Flew once with lufthansa, will never fly again..ever
Maybe it had to do with the catering from Sao Paulo? The hardware seems pretty good though.
4 star Airline
I love the intro
Am I correct in thinking they are now charging extra for baggage --- a la RyanAir ?
