Years ago I requested help from EC and viewers in completing my own dissertation (eternally grateful to EC and everyone who participated in helping me complete my docorate!!), so glad that their support of academic research continues and congrats to Dr Michael!
I disagree, problems don’t arrive by themselves, people and the systems people have create problems. The fundamental issues will still be there, just resetting the clock at best. The best solution imo would be to find ways to structure the current community to stop these problems
Ok but how will these effects trickle down to help players who aren't the literal top of their games? Will it lessen toxicity for mid-ranked players? Casuals?
Unless people can agree on a game that has no corporate developer/publisher that WILL pull the rug from under the game (yeah, don’t even start) there is no long term e-sports scene to work on-it’s just a bunch of kids with delusions of grandeur turning the community into a toxic dump until the developer pulls the plug on the game.
It’s not necessary to be an esports player to take part in the survey :) If you’re a gamer but not into esports, your input will help us compare the mental health of esports players with other gamers.
@ okay but the beginning of the survey made it pretty clear to me that I needed to be an esports player, I’ll take the survey at ly earliest convenience but just be aware of that play doc?
You don’t need to be an esports player to complete the survey :) If you’re not involved in esports, your response helps us compare the mental health of esports players with other gamers
I am very happy for Dr. Michael and very proud of him. I would love to help with this survey, but I am not an Esports player. The most I am able to game per day is get an easy achievement on my Xbox.
Thanks! You don't have to be an esport player to fill in the survey :) If you're not an esport player, your response allows us to compare the mental health of esports players to gamers.
Noble goal. Hope it succeedes. Now lets get some political awareness in EU for devastating addictive elements in microtransction fueled games. From FIFA (don't care how it's called now) thorough World of Tanks to absolute mobile-bottom-of-the-barrel trash.
Can this be done in 3 1/2 months from now still, as I am nearly 18 and have done esports (fighting games) for several years and have insight and want to help this research
Thanks for your interest and willingness to help with the research-it’s much appreciated! You’ll likely still be able to participate in about 3 months. We’ll need to extract the data set by late January or early February to produce a report for the EU, but we’re planning to keep the survey open a bit longer afterward to gather more data for our academic publications. So, once you turn 18, your input will still be valuable!
@ wonderful, as a player with a large focus on mindset and community approach and clinical anxiety, I love this mission and love what you guys are doing!
You don't have to sign up at all :) However, all responses to the survey help us to ensure the quality of the upcoming Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which will be available in the phase of the project.
1:25 on a toxicity scale im like 2-3/10 toxic if 5 is average but i like toxicity in games, it makes u resilient af, only tempered steel wont bend - if u cant endure it in a safe environment, u will crack and crumble in real life
Humans tend to be nicer and feel better the more non-toxic spaces they have to interact in. Like if you have a long play session of DRG you're probably going to feel better afterwards than multiple league games Also, just due to how human psychology works, humans in less toxic environments are more resilient than people in worse ones. Having safe spaces makes dealing with unsafe spaces easier.
No worries! You don’t need to be an esports player to participate in the survey. If you’re not an esports player, your responses will help us understand how the mental health of esports players compares to that of other gamers.
@@oy_oy_ Thanks for pointing that out! We define esports as competitive video gaming, so if you participate in player-versus-player (PVP) gaming competitively, such as through an online matchmaking system, that counts! 😊

Thanks so much! I couldn't agree more! The EC team are amazing!
Great to hear! Congrats DR. Micheal, to giving data input all :)
Thanks so much!
I think we'd be better off tearing esports down to the foundation and starting over instead of trying to fix what is more flaw than fun
Including hosting the QUT women's league :P
Sheesh, what a sad outlook. Maybe try building something yourself before suggesting we destroy other people's work.

This is awesome ❤
I would take the survey, except I'm not an active participant of a competitive video game

Does speedrunning count as an esport 🤔
It tends to be more of a co-op challenge from what I see despite the surface level competition. I'm not really sure myself.
Yes
Technically, yes
In the case of speed running its friendly competition rather than the other or least that’s my understanding
100%
Holy crap a new episode I was beginning to disbelieve in them lol
would want to fill it out, but I don't play esports because it is so often so toxic. Good luck though!
i forgot you guys even had this channel
I love Mike, But when he hangs out with us, we call him DR.PhatSockMike because of his massive package.
Out of curiosity, would Starcade be considered esports?
