I own a Cadillac elr 2016 performance and to my knowledge based on gm documentation neither models have a cvt instead they used a planar gear system to control when and where the power the from the ICE goes
From what I've read, the engine can drive the wheels directly, but this is almost never done since it's less efficient. The 2016 model can combine output from the engine and motor in sport mode which cuts like 1.5 seconds off the 0-60
What a fantastic looking car, I’m in the UK and have never seen pics of this model before. I drive an Alfa Romeo Brera Prodrive which I adore and it seems like the ELR is similar in some ways - a striking looking car that’s berated for its drivetrain and practicality flaws so sold in low numbers but that will always turn heads. Possibly a future classic under appreciated in its day?

I just got an ELR and I really like mine. It's a great daily driver, it's comfy, and I actually really like the cartoonish Hot Wheels look with the giant wheels and tiny Windows. But this car is so dissimilar to the Model S that I always forget that they existed at the same time for the same price, there's no reason to buy it new. But I'm sure glad some people did.

I like Tesla but there do some iffy stuff. For example the range they quite is impossible to beat while let's say a pitcher taycan quotes low and you always get a further that it. And conveniently there real world range for comparable battery sizes is not far off only being like 20 to 50 miles

These ELRs are really begging for a full EV swap with rwd.
It’s direct drive one speed transmission. Not CVT. No need for it on this drive train
