Braxton Creek Bushwhacker Plus Review - Watch before you buy!!

  • If you are considering a Braxton Creek RV/travel trailer, watch this video. It covers our fault filled first four months of ownership of a Bushwhacker Pls 17FL.
Visit our website with other customer reviews at www.braxtoncre....
In the video I stated that my nearest dealer stated that we would be responsible for the labor related to fixing warranty issues. The dealer has confirmed that labor will be included for all warranty repairs, whenever they take place. I apologize for the misstatement.
Since posting this video, the air conditioner has stopped working, the shower seals were fixed and are coming off again, the battery stopped providing power to the trailer, you must be connected to electricity, and, in the middle of nowhere, the support for the waste pipe broke and we were dragging the pipe on the ground. The replacement cabinet the dealer ordered in the July-August 2021 time frame has not arrived.

I went with Casita. Many are still going strong after several decades. But I had been seriously considering a Bushwhacker Plus! The one I stepped inside of screamed of shoddy un-workmanship. Also looked at the Tabs, just a little too cramped for me and 2 small dogs, but they are great quality. So sorry for your troubles. I hope they go out of business.

Sadly this is just another Jayco trailer. And Jayco quality control is Lousy. Stay away. If you buy a Jayco trailer or any trailer under the corporate umbrella be prepared to become an unpaid RV repair man with plenty of on the job training. Forget about enjoying your hard earned vacation time and relaxation. Dealerships have so many issues they can’t possible hire enough RV techs. They know and don’t care selling these sub par units to make a fast buck
Pretty much anything made in Indiana , whether it is Thor or Forest River or any of the others is garbage. And when they say Amish built they must be talking about a distant relative because most of the RV employees are meth heads
So buyer beware. The RV industry needs a big overhaul.

Well, cross this POS off my list. For a brand new camper this is unconscionable. The follow up service is atrocious. Both dealer and manufacturer should be ashamed. Dealers and manufacturers need to realize……word of mouth and social media reviews will kill your business.

Very sad situation. There are documentaries being made as of late stating that all but the top 3 companies are cranking out campers do to exceptionally high demand with absolutely no regard for quality control. The problem seems to be a shortage of workers and a especially workers with trade level skills.

I've been looking for a teardrop camper but don't want to pay 40K and more... I stumbled upon a FreeSolo Plus Romo that seemed to be 'hiding in plain sight' at a dealer just down the street from me! Before I watched your video, I looked at the pics of it, closely. First thing I noticed was that it only has 2 rear stabilizers (none in front). Then I noticed there was no tv. (Not a big deal, really). My concern was that every used teardrop camper that I'd seen up to that point has been at a minimum 20K and higher (mostly higher- like in the 30's especially for this late a model year- 2021 -but bear in mind; they were not 'braxton creek free solo'. They were NuCamp or Little Guy's). NOW I understand WHY they're only asking 16K for a 2021 model FreeSolo Romo. I'm glad I stumbled across your video. Thank you for sharing. I'll steer clear of this manufacturer.

Thank you for your video ! I agree! I have a 2021 Braxton Creek Free Solo Romo and I’ve had nothing but issues from the start. To include waking up to water from my AC all over my counter , to the brake away system failure , and currently heater issues. Shower trim coming off as well with seals. This is just to name a few.
Warranty department is no help either . No manual for it either! I’m living it full time as well.
Just not built well enough for a full timer.

Our 2021 Braxton bushwhacker was nothing but trouble from day one, the furnace has never worked, the matrices (teddy bear type) had the aroma of a house of ill repute! something dead. had to replace battery with only 2 months of use. AC only blows hot air ! made contact with Braxton , very rude lady answered the phone. would not help with anything. told me to deal with the dealer. local dealer is a waste of time, told me it would be a minimum of six months before they would look at it. and then no time frame when it might be done. The warranty is nothing more than a sales gimmick or lip service pick your flavor, would not recommend this brand to anyone, or to purchase this brand.

You should have purchased your camper from A&L RV Sales, they have 8 stores located in TN, VA, GA, and NC and offer a Forever Warranty at no cost to you.......you just have to get a safety inspection once a year and you are covered. This is a no deductible warranty and covers all of your appliances and water heater and other things that you have talked about in this video. From what I have experienced it's not always what you buy but who you buy it from.

Good choice. I just spent $330 on a repair tech who could not fix an electrical problem that was locking up the breaks. He was a master rv tech with 13 years experience. First time he had not been able to fix a problem. Spent 1/2 hour on the phone with his father who had over 30 years experience and had owned his own repair business.
Since earlier postings I have had poor quality warranty service from the local dealer in Tucson. My big spring trip is no more. Considering painting my trailer lemon yellow and parking it outside the factory. The problem is that it is not roadworthy.

I was about to buy a Bushwhacker Plus 15FK trailer but after seeing this video have decide against it. I guess it says a lot when there is no official Braxton Creek or Bushwhacker TH-cam channels. Usually manufacturers will have their own channels for marketing, to provide user tips etc and encourage costumer feedback. No TH-cam is a bit strange. They leave everything up to local dealers. Not the best sign.
I found their corporate "PRINCIPLES" interesting:
    Braxton Creek PRINCIPLES:
Quality Craftsmanship: Doing things right the first time. This saves time, money, and relationships, and it's reflected in our 1-year Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty-a rare find in this industry.
Integrity: Doing what we say we'll do. And, doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. This is where it all starts and ends at Braxton Creek.
Ease of Doing Business: A limited distribution strategy, paired with a dealer and customer-friendly warranty claim process, provides the certainty all parties deserve.
It's a shame. I liked the idea behind these trailers. Too bad its not executed well.

So you had the average experience with a camper.
They are all junk, pick your level of junk, and prepare to fix everything yourself.
Make your offer to purchase accordingly.
The manufacturers produce junk, the dealers are liars, cheats, and do not take care of their customers once they are ‘’over the curb’’ they will keep your camper for months over a couple hour repair. Just DIY
Camper ownership requires a strong willingness to DIY, and a bit of resourcefulness.
If you are not prepared to DIY, don’t but one

I wish I would have done my research before getting mines. I've had it for five months and I'm ready to get real of mines, because I've hardly used it. I have seriously put in some funds with this bad bugger! When I purchased mines from Dunlap in Bowling Green, KY (avoid them in its entirety). I'm a single color woman who didn't know much about a camper. Got it because it would save me money from renting a hotel while being on contracts.
Well, they rigged up my hitch by placing the wiring close to the haust pipe and burned the wiring and I had to pay the labor fee that wasn't covered by the warn or anything. That was $200 dollars and the blower to the fauna continued to run over 28hrs, and had to take it to a shop to find that the air from the propane needed released. Man, this camper has it's ups and downs so be aware.

Jim speaks the truth! I bought a BW Teardrop. Dexter brakes never worked correctly. I had to disable them. The hurricane hinge was too short for the application, rain water went directly into the kitchen area on both sides of the door. The propane gas fittings were installed INCORRECTLY and leaked propane at the stove. The bottom edge of the unit was not sealed-all four sides. It just goes on and on. I had the trailer into the dealer 4 times for the brakes. The techs could never figure out why the passenger side brake shoes would SELF-ADJUST OUTWARD so as to make full, under pressure, contact with the drum. Braxton Creek is a company that I liken to Joe Biden...not worth a dam.

Price point on these is attractive; however, if they aren't built well, it isn't worth it. Too bad as the layout looks pretty good if you want a camper with a bathroom/toilet.

True, but the waste system should not fall of in the first week of ownership, nor a wheel fall off on the way home the dealers. At no time should the entire cabin fall off the trailer frame. Those are real events that have happened to owners.

Wow... this is a disgrace... the RV industry is unregulated and that needs to change... how do these companies get away with this crap.... I've been looking at a number of different manufacturers and to be honest they all seem about the same ... non of the builders of these things seem to give a shit about their work... it's embarrassing.... gotta admit close to giving up on the idea of RVing.

Sorry to hear you've had issues. . We bought a Bushwacker plus right after covid hit in May of 2019, purchasing the 15FK model. We wanted to get something that we could use off the grid during covid and thereafter. We live in Southern CA but decided to purchase the unit in Iowa to save money and not pay crazy CA markups. The trip was almost 2000 miles. So we hauled it back to Los Angeles and slept in it on the way. Since that time we've been out in the Bushwacker plus about 15 times going to Morrow Bay once at a campground and also a week in Death Valley in the winter, but the other times mainly going to the desert for a few days at a time off road or in the back country.
The trailer has held up well for the most part, but we did have some issues some of which the gentleman is talking about. We had to silicone the shower because the walls came apart in a couple places as well as some of the cosmetic stripping inside the RV. . .The step into the trailer was a little weak so we reinforced it with some bolting. The stereo came on by itself sometimes which drains the battery which I found annoying. One shelf board came loose from the staples, so it was bolted. Lastly we sealed around the front door with silicone and foam because we saw air gaps from the inside in that area. We have since bolted or screwed in all areas that have staples.
Besides for the stereo issue I consider these things general maintenance that we've had to do on any unit, especially since we use it offroad and off grid camping. . you do have to be gentle with it if you go offroad though as it does tend bounce around over 25mph on dirt roads. . We paid 11 g for the Bushwacker and I consider this a bargain. I'm aware that some other trailers out there are built better, but they also cost more. Maybe we got a good one, but I should also mention my friend 30 miles away bought the other Bushwacker model and she hasn't had any problems except some maintenance inside as well. Sorry to hear about your other issues and warranty problems with the company. I've called Braxton Creek to inquire about the stereo and they said I had to talk to the manufacturer of the the unit which is Jensen. They sent me a new unit but I had to install it myself. Mainly I'm pleased with the camper

We also have a 2022 free solo plus din. There were a couple hiccups. But then we have owned numerous RV's travel trailers, cab over camper, 2 class c's and now we own a 33' Super C and each and every own has had all of the same issues, unfortunately it comes with the territory. We bought the Baxton Creek free Solo plus din knowing full well its going to have problems... But for the price they are very much Worth the value. We rent out the unit we both. And everyone that has rented it has been very happy. Personally i think these complaints are well legitimate but most can be taken care off with a little effort. Sorry for there loss but this is usually a first time rv owner that is not very handy. And pr8 shouldn't have purchased one to begin with.

What do you expect for this price point? It’s much less than the competition for a reason. I’m looking to buy one to strip and rebuild. The frame and shell are solid so I’d love to rebuild one as the frame and shell are the most difficult parts to DIY

I have the 15fk model. The latch on the emergency escape window will not keep the window open. Have you had this problem? Need ideas....

    • @dianehall5345
      @dianehall5345 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Cindy Yurek- We bought a 2022 15FK, but have only used it three times. So far it is ok, but we are not avid campers. We are farmers who want to take a break and book mostly one nighters. Here's another point. Our 2004 Toyota Tacoma cannot pull a camper heavier than this one. So for us it works out and we are happy with our purchase so far. Sorry Cindy, that emergency window latch can come back at you. Not sure why that design. We keep the bed down and I bought a 4" mattress topper. Heaven! Then I bought a 10x10 EZ- UP 6.4 Cube tent We use it for a screen house and also have two cots for guests. So we use the camp ground picnic table or a small table in the screen tent. The 6' clearance in the 15FK is fine for us and a blessing on a rainy day to have a hard shell. If I had the money, I would buy a bigger truck and a 21' Little Guy Max, but this works well for us and it is also a cute guest house in the summer. Braxton Creek should be ethical towards their customers. I am a retired corporate Senior Buyer and customer service is everything! I'm sorry to hear all these complaints and issues. I hope they can be resolved or perhaps consider trading in for a better grade of camper. This forum makes me feel like we could benefit from finding someone who has the knowledge and expertise to put together a comprehensive users manual at a reasonable price. I would would definitely buy a copy! I keep tabs with Mitch at TRAVELING TEARDROP on You Tube. He has done some modifications to his 15FK and is satisfied with the overall results. He and his wife camp all year round. We hope to meet with them when they visit New Hampshire. Best of luck to everyone! ~ Diane

I was thinking of getting a 23 17mb and I have the same tow vehicle, Ford Escape with the 2.0 engine and a 3500 tow rating. Can you tell how your Escape towed that weight of vehicle ?? After seeing your video now I have doubts but still am curious how your escape towed it. Do you have another teardrop with a bathroom you can suggest, thanks

    • @jas8880
      @jas8880  ปีที่แล้ว

Don’t do it. My Escape Titanium had issues with towing from the start. Initially overheating and then the transmission resulting in a $4700 overhaul. It only had 17k miles when I started towing. Also, I pumped the tires up 10 psi to improve gas mileage. Occasionally got 13 but averaged about 11 and was as low as 7.
No matter what you tow, get a truck. I got a 2022 Frontier and feel a lot better when I tow. Similar mileage without a trailer and 13-15 towing.
If your budget will stretch, look at Tab. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear of your problems, it seems worse than us. I am curious to know how many owners like us are out there.
With regard to the manual, I don't think there is one, just a stack of installation guides for the components.
      Goof luck.

For the water heater issues, I'd recommend replacing it with a tankless unit. For the roof leak, check that the sealant is properly applied, you should be able to see it from a short ladder. If the sealant isn't in all the right places, or is cracked, you may need the roof resealed.
