A very nice knife sent in by a customer to be re-profiled to 20 degrees per side. The steel is D2. I corrected the asymmetry and established new bevels before polishing and refining the edge.
Thanks for the quick response. I have been hesitant to try sharpening this myself, as it was a gift from my wife. Hopefully I get this sent out this week. Thanks again Clay.
How much do you charge for a knife to be sent in for a sharpening? and where do i ship to? My spyderco pacific salt is dull and the grind is horrid due to a smiths pocket sharpener.
Thanks for asking. If we just do basic sharpening - match the existing angle and go to the 1000# stones, it's $1 per inch plus shipping. If we change the angle and/or polish the edge beyond 1000#, it's $2 per inch plus shipping.
Another great video with another great demonstration. Your videos are always better when they include a before and after demonstration. Question: How exactly do you "set up" the strops? Don't they come blank and you spray the solution on? How often do you reapply? Or when do you know when you need to reapply?
Ok great sounds good. And the turnaround time is 2-3 days correct? Now is that from the time that I send it or from the time that you receive it from the shipping carrier? Sorry for the confusion.
We charge $2/inch of blade length. 20 degrees is a great edge for that blade in s30v. You could push it to 17 degrees depending on how hard you use it.
Yes - the sharpener is calibrated for blades averaging 1/8" thick. If it's much thicker than that, approaching 1/4" then you'll need to move the right arm out 1 degree and pretty much 1 degree for 1/8" of additional thickness.
Just ordered the pro pack. Waiting for it to ship. Next paycheck I'll probably drop another $400 for the ceramic 12/16s, all the compounds and 3 sets of balsa strops.
with the pro pack 1 can a mirror polish edge be optained, that will whittle hair? If not what additional accesories would be needed to purchase in order to obtain a mirror polish edge
Hello, Thank you for running this service. I am interested in sending my 940 to you. I have a question: when you all accept a customer's knife, how high do you take the grit levels?
Yes. Your stones will need some time to break in before you get super polished edges. If you don't want to wait for them to break in then you could get either the 2k/3k Choseras or the Micro-Fine Ceramics.
hey Clay, I just purchased a benchmade 162 bushcrafter exclusively for skinning deer. what angle would you recommend? and is a v edge sharper than a convex? I know a convex is better for slicing, but was wondering which is sharper if any. Also, if I were to send it in to you to sharped right out of the box how much would it be and could I have you go all the way up to .025 micron spray on synthetic strops? I want this thing wicked sharp; and if it is I might buy a pro pack II for my 15th
I'm looking at getting my Benchmade Osborne 940 with s30v steel sharpened because the out of the box sharpening wasn't that great. If I sent it to you, are you able to get the shiny mirror edge on it and an extremely sharp blade? :)
hey i was wandering how much its is to send my spyderco paramilitary 2 would be to sharpen please help me out i dnt know y but it will not take an edge no matter what i do to it please help me
Hey clay I;m about to purchase this system and was wondering if there was a reason why you clamped this nice more towards the handle instead of the middle. I have a BM 943 that I will be sharpening on this system.
Hi Kyle, Good question. The 940 only has parallel surfaces near the handle, so that's the best place to clamp it. The knife also doesn't have much belly, so the angle stays very consistent down the length of the blade in that position. It ended up with very even bevels all the way along the blade.
That would be from the time we receive it to the time we ship it out again. There's no accounting for postage time... Sometimes we can get them done on the same day.
Clay, if I send you my Spyderco Michael Walker could you put a wicked edge on it??? My lansky is junk and don't cut it. Also having issues with micro chipping on the ZDP-189. I'd love to see how you're wicked edge sharpens my baby.
it would be nice to se you sharpen a kabar becker bk2, maybe put a convex edge on it , i know that their many outthere who want to see that. martin lind
I really need to send my Osborne 940 off to get sharpened. My sister-in-law asked if she could use my knife to cut flowers for a wedding bouquet. With out hesitation I gave it to her. Little did I know she was using fake flowers with wire through the stalks. *Shaking my head* Do you have a website with more info on how to send one in?
Hi Troy, We charge $4/inch of blade plus return shipping and I can definitely do your Fallkniven A1 as well. Great knife. If you decide to go ahead, our address is: Wicked Edge ATTN: Clay Allison 1591 Pacheco St., Bldg 2 Santa Fe, NM 87505
+Four Dog That's a good question. I think if you're using powered equipment, especially a belt it would be a worry. The amount of metal coming off from our sharpener is pretty minimal though keeping the stones slightly damp is a very easy fix if you're concerned.
+Clay Allison thanks, It seems to be fine when just sharpening knife. when I was trying to take scratches off on old blade with wet sand paper I smelled some iron, not sure if that was normal or bad thing
Anyone have a gen 3? I'm considering a purchase on the gen 3, but an issue is bothering me. For gen 2s and 1s, there is the SWAT jig to account in the difference of stone thickness, but in the gen 3, there seems to be no such mechanism
Sea That's a good question. The SWAT jig won't work on the full Gen 3. You'd be better off with PP2 hardware and the Gen 3 jaws. We're getting ready to release just that machine in the next month.
Do you still provide this service? I have a 940 with S30V that I'd like reprofile just like above, at 20-degress each side for a total of 40, so I can keep the edge maintained with my Spyderco Sharpmaker. Also correct any asymmetry issues like you did to this one. If you still do this, can you send me the details (pricing, where to send it, how long it takes, etc). Thanks.
Hi Raymond, We do still provide this service and can do it just like you ask. The price is $2/inch of blade length if we're correcting blade asymmetry. It usually takes us a day or two after receiving the knife before sending it out. Our address is: Wicked Edge 3 Caliente Road, Ste8 Santa Fe, NM 87508 Please include the cost of the sharpening and return postage. USPS small flat rate box usually works the best. --Clay
We do still offer the service. We charge $2/inch of blade length plus return shipping. You can send your knives to the address below. Wicked Edge Precision Sharpeners 3 Caliente Road, Ste 8 Santa Fe, NM 87508 (505) 466-9911 ps We were abnormally slow for jgtellsu's knife. Great knife to work with!

We don't have a page about it but you can send them to our office: Wicked Edge 3 Caliente Road, Ste 8 Santa Fe, NM 87508 Please send $2 per inch of blade length and return postage. The turnaround is approximately 2-3 days.
+B. Killough We charge $2/in for basic sharpening. Basic sharpening means we match the angle already on the knife and take it to 1000# finish. We charge $4/in for advanced sharpening which could include an angle change and/or a nice polish.
I highly doubt the knifes owner could even tell just by using it alone if it was 20, 22, or 24 degrees. I would bet nobody who sharpens by hand could tell what the exact angle would be after sharpening, and would be just as sharp.
+BennyCFD That's probably very true. The exact angle isn't so important as being able to hit the same angle over and over again. You do notice a difference between 20 and 24 degrees but would be hard pressed to guess if the angle was 20 or 21.
Hey! Do you still offer this service? I would love to send you two benchmades to get reprofiled, the factory edge isn't cutting it. Please let me know!
I have enjoyed my 940 for the past 8 months. Today I had an AXIS failure in both Omega springs rendering the knife useless. I will be shipping it back to Benchmade soon. Do you have any tips on making the AXIS last longer? Video: th-cam.com/video/KHhjeLNQPfY/w-d-xo.html

Very interesting. I'm getting my 940 tomorrow.
Something tells me this is way harder than you make it look! 👍🏼
The first couple of times you sharpen with it, it feels a little awkward, but everyone picks it up pretty and gets the hang of it pretty quickly.
How much do you charge for a knife to be sent in for a sharpening? and where do i ship to? My spyderco pacific salt is dull and the grind is horrid due to a smiths pocket sharpener.
nice, what about a pro kit upgrade package? for those with the standard kit to upgrade. any eta on the 10000 water stones and ceramics?
We can definitely get it into terrific shape - polished bevel and wicked sharp.
Thanks for your service! You can send your blades to our shop and we'll get them squared away for you.

Musicians who use knives to make their clarinet / sax / oboe / bassoon reeds, they NEED to see this video!
Great! I'll be sending it in soon then. How much will it cost total for a sharp edge and the polished edge?
Clay can u make a vid on sharpening a zero tolerance 301 or something with belly in the blade. Please
thats sharp man

is it safe to sharpen knife without a mask? i was thinking metal dust can be harmful

+Four Dog It would be normal to get that wet, musty iron smell when you were we sanding it. Humidity makes our noises much more sensitive.
+Clay Allison thanks for the replies!
D2? On a 940
how do we resch out to you. I have a few Benchmade and Snyderco blades I would love to have you sharpen.
+Jeremy James The easiest way is through email: clay@wickededgeusa.com.
How easy is it to cut yourself using this sharpener? Knuckles seem awfully close to the blade edge.

It's the Wicked Edge Basic Kit.
Hey can anyone hook me up with links to some in depth knife steel and angle literature?
***** There is some great literature on knife steel on zknives website.

We do, thanks for asking. I'll get back to you tomorrow with details on how to send it in.
I have a Kershaw Launch 4 I would like to have re profiled and polished to a razor finish. If you would consider sharpening it let me know.
I don't have any tips there besides keeping the springs lubricated.
