My high school choir director once said, "If, when you listen to music, you get goose bumps, you know it's good music." Well, Mr. Leimer, and Beck, the bumps rose yesterday and they're still there.
I had two tickets to see him in Nashville on this tour. The night before I was to head down to Nashville I listened to this over and over. I cried to it all night...that morning my mom called and told me my grandfather had passed away during that night. I missed the show and lost an important human in my life. That is why this song cuts so deep to me..
An album shouldn't be just be just a disc full of trivial hits. An album should be a concept gracefully fabricated with lyrical motif, and an overall sonic theme,Listening to this album elicited so many emotions and I congratulate Beck on his much deserved win. I listened to all the other albums under that category and they didn't compare (just my opinion). I can't imagine the meticulous amount of work Beck put into this album from lyrics to production. Congrats Beck!!
I legit just stared off into space for damn near the entire song and thought about everything. This song gives me chills. Music doesn't normally do that to me.
de galambos There's a LOT of great music being made. It's mostly underground, but there's TONS of great stuff. Check out Tame Impala, Jessica Pratt, Wand, Pond's new record, Thievery Corporation's last record, Temples, Devendra Banhart, and.. heck I could list new music forever. There's a lot.
yeah I know, I have a background in sound engineering/recording and reinforcement. Pro Tools ect and plug-ins (not a debate on analog/digi lol) has made it possible for MANY people to create without the expense of a studio one would have found someone likeTommy Dowd in 30 years ago..
The outro is my favorite part. The wow wow part. It sounds like an angel using it's horn. Beck is such an underated guitarist. People always point to ""loser"" but that was made very early in their career and their music has evolved so much since then. I've been a fan since I was 12.
man, Beck has definitely done it with this one... my breathing just falls in time, i can see the images painted by the lyrics... my heart feels this... it tugs at my soul. it is rare i feel this way about an album... there are a few precious gems, this one included.
Jennifer Kemp yes, when i heard 'Sea Change' i truly thought that was going to be that one special masterpiece of his career... i was wrong... they are both affect me mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and yes, even physically.
Who's here after listening to the whole playlist? I get so focused with this album. Chores, work, chillin. Actually its just all his music. Whatever mood you're in, Beck has got you're back. Gold.
Beck is the Alan Parsons of our time! I love his moody music. I hope he wins the Grammy tomorrow. It is time he was recognized for his prolific capacity and beautiful music. Good luck folk music lover. I love this song.
Maye McDonald It's funny you mention Alan Parsons. I just listened to "I Robot" earlier and was just thinking about how some of the music on this album had a similar vibe to some of AP's stuff.
Sea Change was such an impact on my life, when I discovered that album I listened to it constantly. At the time i was going though major depression and had psychological issues which took a while to get past. I guess i identified with the emotion of that album, even though its a sad one, in a way it helped me through. Now Im glad to say life has got better for me, I've got past that time of my life and listening to this track, it makes me feel good about the future. You could say If Sea Change was the soundtrack to my depression, I guess Morning Phase maybe the soundtrack to the next chapter of my life. Can not wait to hear the whole album! Pre-Ordered the vinyl yesterday!
Miles Dolding… it’s 2021 now. I’m just reading your comment and hope you’re doing well. Thanks for sharing this. My grown son is still fighting heavy depression ( off & on- swings). I’ll make sure he hears this great music too. Hope filled Love ✌️
@@reereerobin This album saved my life. I mustve had it on repeat in headphones for a month, just walking around my apartment crying, after i lost both of my grandparents within a couple month period. Definitely share it. Its still like therapy for me on a rough day
Comigo foi o mesmo. O Fase Matinal me salvou da depressão ~ que jamais me abandonará. Eu Amo a melancolia. Eu consigo me perdoar. 👨🏿🎨💐
Beck is a beast. A force of nature. I literally(literally) get goosebumps from this album. This is the same guy that does "Where it's At" and "Wow". After I lost Bowie and Prince, Beck is all I have left.
Waking light, it grew from the shadow Brace yourself to the morning low Night is gone, long way turning You've waited long enough to know When the memory leaves you Somewhere you can't make it home When the morning comes to meet you Lay me down in waking light No one sees you here, roots are all covered There's such a life to go and how much can you show? ***** I know, but actually it helped in a way. People who never would've listened to Beck before are flocking in droves to listen to him now. They get to find out what you and many others have known for years. That's the good that's coming out of all of this.
+Gunthers McCain* waking light, your profile in shadow. Race yourself to the morning alone. Not to be rude, but FYI " when taking a shit, aim at the toilet". Sorry I ment "You smell nice let`s get high and fuck till sunrise"
It never fails...everytime I listen to this song, my heart swells and I start to weep, makes me feel as if my *soul* grows larger when I listen to it. I love Beck, and virtually everything he does (with the exception of one or two that make my ears bleed lol). He is my very favorite.
Beautiful...guess I should thank the Grammys for making me aware of these songs. I've been following him since his alt hit 'Loser' and his records are always eclectic and interesting.
21 days more...when I heard Blue Moon I instantly fell in love with this album, and this is another great song. Love Beck and I want a "sequel" to Mellow Gold, still listening to it and still one of the best albums I've heard. Damn, all albums from Beck are one of these...
It's a sequence in G the last 3 tracks, similar to Pink Floyds Mother and Goodbye Blue Sky, the ending track closes in G minor on a melancholy note, giving you the meaning of the album in the closing piece. Grief. Probably one of the best song sequences I've ever heard recently, nobody comes close to this in modern music.
Wow. Just got blown away, I always remember Beck being awesome. I'm 16 right now so I never saw him in his prime. But always been a fan, this sounds great and I just can't wait for his next album!
A Beck Masterpiece! Beck is simply brilliant. The song takes me to a place that touches the expanded spaces of my soul. Beck's music continues to evolve into such depth, beauty and mastery.
This man is so great! Unique and truly musician with a big heart! This man is out of fucking sell-out establisment, he was made himself. This song is so atmospheric. It's like you're living somewhere in the snowy mountains and breathing cold air inside your lungs. One of the early mornings you've realise, that human problems aren't concerning you anymore, you are flowing away from here in the stream of light into the beautiful place where is no pain and sorrow. Thank you, Beck for such a sincere album. Beck is like modern Dylan, but cooler.
Oh yeah goose bumps, tears, and introspection on many occasions with many different Beck songs. I'm not sure I've experienced the same extent from another artist. Truly a gifted artist!
Not sure what the world has come to when we thank someone like Kanye for helping to discover Beck's music. Really just goes to show how so much attention to mainstream radio and celebs blinds us.
Just returned from Beck's concert in Columbia, MD. Best show I've seen in years. They didn't play this song from what I can remember, but did play some others from the new album. Amazing how much the music has changed/matured over the decade. He's a music genius.
The last three songs a song cycle in G with this in G minor to end with a touch of sadness that completes the cycle, it's one of the best cycles ever committed to recording, Pink Floyd sort of did this with Mother and Goodbye bluesky, real melancholy and beauty.
I like everything Beck does. He is so original, straight from that creative genius of his! Both his parents were artists and he must of learned a lot from them too. Your awesome Beck, keep it up!
Life isn't fair is it? We should all be able to produce greatness when life gives us lemons. What an amazing job. And have the experience of working with so much talent....
Love this as the end of the album. It starts with "Morning", the rest of the songs can be interpreted as night, and once more back to the beginning of a new day. "Country Down" is the song before this one. Its always darkest before the dawn.
i was one of those people who didn't give this spectacular work of art a chance. Everything about is ingenious and thoughtful. every song is kind of the same sound, but that doesn't mean it wasn't masterfully crafted with the very best influences and ideas. i am head over heels now. Love it to death.
Beck, is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He rose to fame in the early 1990s with his lo-fi, sonically experimental style, and he became well known for creating musical collages of a wide range of styles. His later recordings encompass folk, funk, soul, hip hop, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia. He has released 12 studio albums, as well as several non-album singles and a book of sheet music. Got talent?
What a solid song, lyrically, and musically, it so perfect. It reminds us all of objective beauty. Everyone who listens to this feels the exact same way, hats off to you my man, Beck!
Great melodies and harmonies that remind me of some of the greatest of Elton John in the '70's. Beck has hit a homerun with "Morning Phase"! I think it's the best of his career, and demonstrates the depth of his talent.
Beck is one of the most legitimate voices in pop, if not the most. He receives a lot of pot shots, because they know he's untouchable. He is, ultimately, inevitable.
This song is simply gorgeous.
Beck's mourning phase transformed into a (new) morning phase. Just wonderful stuff from the soul of this man.
My high school choir director once said, "If, when you listen to music, you get goose bumps, you know it's good music." Well, Mr. Leimer, and Beck, the bumps rose yesterday and they're still there.
