I have the same guitars except for my songwriter is a cutaway. My two favorite Gibson acoustics ever built and both were my dream guitars and I play them both equally. Great comparison I love the difference in the sound just goes to show why I bought them both
I picked up a 2004 Songwriter a few years ago (ebony fretboard and bridge)... it's a stunning sounding instrument...full, rich, clear with beautiful tone definition across the spectrum...The SW has to be the most underappreciated model in Gibsons entire catalogue Beautiful playing and while I definitely preferred the SW in this demo I must say you got some great sounds outta that "workhorse" J-45...best I've heard one sound in a while Great work!
Nice comparison! What are you using for recording? I think everything sounds a bit bright for some reason. The J45 I think sounds quite dark and thumpy in other videos.
The Songwriter sounds so much more rounded and rich. The J-45TV reminds me of a 1961 J-50 that I played. They both have "Snap", but less in tone and sustain. I would always go with the Studio if these were the only instruments I could work with.
Songwriter is an all rounder, and longer scale length than most Gibson acoustics . J-45 is the classic Gibson dry sound tone. Nice midrange that sits well in an ensemble. I’d keep ‘em both. 🎧
Hard to pick a "winner." Since they are both unique in their own ways. I love them both! I own the songwriter in the sunburst and its absolutely stunning. I own a Martin D-28 as well, and again, 2 completely different guitars. Love the Martin for the clarity and its a little easier for me to play. But the Songwriter has more of a bass thump to it. The J45 has the best bass thump ive ever played. I need a J45. I need a Martin Ceo-7 as well. A lot of needs, just not enough cashola!
I played a Songwriter when that model was new, and never forgot the clear ringing sound with separation of notes highs, lows, chords!
Absolutely. That's what I love about it.
Enjoyed the video Alex! Nice review! 🔥💯👍. Andrew from NB :)
Thanks brother
Song writer best guitar I ever played ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I agree the Songwriter is an amazing and underrated gibson
Nice video, saw the caption and I expected to prefer the J 45 but the songwriter blew me away, v interesting. Thanks.
I know that Songwriter is some special I'm lucky to have er. Thanks for watching

Thanks man. I played the cutaway it's killer

Really appreciate that. And I couldn't agree more. The Songwriter is a killer guitar.
I tried the Hummingbird, Song Writer and J-45. I bought the J-45. Maybe I was a lucky one cause cause no two J-45s sound the same.
They're both amazing guitars. I had a Songwriter Deluxe 2018. I ended up selling it a few years later. Have regretted it every moment since.
Sorry to hear that. One of my students has the same songwriter I do. Hers is brighter and mine sounds like an older guitar.

It’s where he is picking. So far behind the sound hole makes guitars sound bright and removes bass. It’s a preference.
Just using my phone very low tech lol
You did good man. Songwriter may be me backup guitar to the J45 ebony I’m getting. Thanks
J45 ebony? Cool. Thanks 🙏
That one sounds nice but i like the Gerry gouegan guitar
Thank you. A good comparison. For me, the songwriter sounds better!

I agree. Thanks so much for watching
Well played dude. I felt you were more comfortable playing j45 maybe because the scale length, songwriter is longer.
Definitely

Yesir. I wish I could !
I have a Songwriter with a sunburst top! Best acoustic I ever had!
Both sound great; but the Songwriter wins for me.
I agree
Nice guitars thanks for sharing the video.😊
Thanks for watching
Nice playing and guitars. What year is the songwriter?
It's brand new!
If only the the songwriter came in a sunburst
Yes I've only seem pictures of the sunburst and it is gorgeous
Forget the guitars, the playing is excellent!
Really appreciate that 🙏
Songwriter for me i have a custom songwriter from music villa and it sounds beautiful like yours!
Heck yes!!!
Both nice but i like the songwriter
Me too
Sound almost identical, too bright and jangly for me. I have a ‘82 Martin HD 28 😎
the j 45 was boxy and old timey...the songwriter was fluid and sweet
I totally agree

I can't read this but I certainly appreciate you watching my video!
What strings
Phosphor Bronze lights. Sorry for the late reply

I love the sunburst on the Songwriter
I think the song writer might be the one to have to beat, good luck doing it.
I prefer the Songwriter especially if you sing along. I find Mahogany sounds good for Country music and prefer Rosewood for Folk music
Me too
J45 records better
