I don't think that's the point of the video. They are justifying the cost of the new railway project for fastest speed. But obviously its more comfortable and faster than a taxi. It also makes the roads less congested. So it's a win-win for everyone.

The HSR is $244 and through train from hung hom is $210. Saving 30 mins for $34 is well worth it for anyone who has an hourly wage of more than $60

Great Content. However as a Guangzhou resident,I must point out the time of HSR journy COULD be reduced even further if she transit to Metro at Guangzhou South railway station instead of the Taxi, we all know how traffic can be during rush hours. Metro will take her to Taikoo Hui in 40 minutes without any delay,so she could arrive there at 10:13AM.

The distance between Hong Kong and Guangzhou is too short, only 140 kilometers, and the advantages of taking high-speed rail versus taking buses and taxis are not obvious. If it is between 300 kilometers and 500 kilometers, high-speed rail has greater advantages, the lowest cost, and easier time control. If the distance is more than 800 kilometers, the flight time will be shorter

Well why the hell you don't take the HSR as the participant of race ? Different hour, different dates, different traffic flow. For example of you take a trip on morning there will be more traffic than if you depart on noon. Because in the morning there are a lot of commuters.

Compared to National Network, if you just consider to save more time than by plane, high speed train to Beijing and Shanghai is not the best choice because Beijing is 2195km from HongKong and Train from Hong Kong to Shanghai cannot travel up to 300km but only around 200-250km/h. Because the track of Shanghai-Shenzhen Railway is only affordable for no more than 250km/h. But If you wanna go to some south provinces like Hu'nan or Hubei, their capital city Chang'sha and Wuhan, trust me high speed train is really comfortable. It can travel up to 350km/h.

But if you take the Guangzhou Metro Line 2 to Taikoohui (from GZ South Railway Station, the terminus of the new HSR) instead of the Guangzhou Taxi, the entire trip could be grounded to a halt. Guangzhou Metro during the rush hour is a nightmare.

Plane would be much faster if it werent for waiting time on lobby, body checking, luggage checking, id card identification, cramped space inside the aircraft that force you to move very slowly, and the obligatory cellphone checking by the stewardess before taking off. For safety indeed. Cant say its not annoying though.

If you wanna go to Tianhe District of Guangzhou, arriving in Guangzhou East Railway is the best choice. I tell you that the distance for East Station to South Station is 28km. But when you arrive at East Station, you can walk to the Taikoo Hui and Tianhe CBD. But if you head to West Guangzhou like Haizhu District and Fangcun District, South Station is the best choice.

Some hk people’s vision are so shallow that they only keep comparing speed/cost of take a train from hk to Shenzhen north or Guangzhou south stn. The hsr provide a link to massive bullet train network in mainland which is what matters. They keep thinking less people will take train to mainland but they haven’t factor in the tourist coming from mainland by train. That will be a boost the economy and tourism in hk.
