Very helpful, thank you! (The instructions that came with my downrigger were absolutely useless.)

Wish I saw this before I wasted a terminator clip. Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Cheers

great video. I used these the other day as like you said, you will always lose a ball or two fishing. in my case it was a tree sown around 70 feet.

Hi Im new to downrigging. I have this kit on my line right now but my cable still comes up to fast and slaps boom hard. Can I just clip a scotty377 or 378 on to this so reduce impact? Thanks

Cannon how do you reopen the terminator

This is very helpful. Cannon instructions tell us to first close the terminator before running the wires which makes no sense.

Still waiting to learn how to use these with braid.

I hung up on the bottom and had to cut my cable at a lake. I don't know how much cable I lost on my Mag 10, I'd guess maybe 20 to 30 feet?... Would loosing that much cable affect the cable Depth counter at all? That's what I'm concerned about. If not, then I'll just tie on another Terminal Kit and be done with it. I rarely use my downhugger to go over 100 feet deep.

      Hi CJ's Outdoors,
The Mag 10 STX is spooled with 250 ft. of cable, so 20-30 ft. of cable removed should not affect the depth counter.
      Thanks!

It will not affect the counter because you are just resetting from zero .

How do I fasten the other end of the cable onto to downrigger spool ?

      Hi Clasvi,
The following instructions show how to replace the cable on a Cannon Downrigger.
Step 1) Begin removing the old cable from the spool, towards the end you will notice that the cable is inserted into a small hole in the spool and held in place by a crimped sleeve. This crimped sleeve can be cut off to fully remove the wire from the spool.
Step 2) The end of the new cable is inserted into the small hole on the spool and pulled through the
other side, a sleeve can then be crimped on to secure the cable to the spool.
If you have an electric downrigger you will need to push the up switch to wrap the cable on the spool. If you have a manual downrigger you will need to crank the handle forward to wrap the cable on the spool.
Caution: Always wear safety glasses and gloves. Disconnect all power to the downrigger before beginning any work or maintenance. Johnson Outdoors Inc. is not responsible for any damage due to improper rigging or installation. If you do not have the skills, experience and tools to perform the following maintenance and repairs, we recommend you seek the help of a Cannon Authorized Service Center. A list of Authorized Service Centers can be found at bit.ly/3bSYrwK or

      Thank you!

    Dear Cannon,
Please produce a detailed slow motion video on how one replaces cable on the reel. Last time we did it - it was a real shit show! Very Frustrating !
If this has been done please provide link and advise when cable should be replaced.

Thank you for the instructions and the sequence of actions when replacing a new terminator. I installed the flash mount and I have a very big problem with disconnecting the power cord extension. Is there a solution for this, because this connection is absolutely the worst I have ever encountered.
