With the first stellated rhombic dodecahedron you could use the equatorial edges and make a 2x2 (or little chop if it isn't too complicated) base with the tips rotating on the outside
Something I like about this (being honest, very niche) hobby is that parallel inventions happen more often than you'd first imagine. Great minds think alike, and lesser seldom differ.
Yeah, it's just geometry, so we're way more likely to converge on an idea than most other creative hobbies. There are only so many "low hanging fruit" ideas to go around. That's just how it goes. I'm happy with the puzzle regardless!
