Due to my school schedule, I usually stop in the library to watch these awesome videos. I'm learning so much. I can't tell you how many times I've laughed out loud in this quiet library. You are so funny! I appreciate how you keep a sense of humor. Makes learning. Your student is such a sport. I enjoy laughing with her as well. These lessons are timeless.
You will indeed see "refrigerator" occasionally signed as "COLD-BOX." The people who seem to sign it that way the most are ASL instructors who are striving to avoid "initialization" of their signs as a way of distancing themselves from what they feel is "English-like" signing. "COLD-BOX" is certainly acceptable but in everyday usage we Deaf tend to gravitate toward "efficiency." A multi-movement compound sign is going to take more "work" to do and thus be less commonly used.
Here you have a conflict between culture (an aspect of which is shown in the desire to sign in a way that is autonomous and separate from English -- by avoiding initialization) vs. the natural human tendency toward linguistic efficiency (wanting to sign COLD with an "R" so as to avoid making two extra movements to sign "BOX"). You should certainly sign it however your local ASL teacher wants it signed (at least for the duration of any class you may be taking) and however your local Deaf prefer.
8:25 sounds like an interesting time in the park for Katelyn and Bill. 12:59 bill seems to like his snow. 18:19 but on a serious note. for the sign WILL. Could that also mean a person will? like their "last will and testament" that kind of thing
I'm sure you've found them already, but if you click on Bill Vicars (his youtube name) right below his video, it takes you to his channel. You'll find ASL 2 with 15 videos in it, and there you'll find 16-30.
I signed: SHORT-term FINE BUT CONTINUE CONTINUE COLD not-LIKE ME. Which is to say, in response to her question "Do you like cold weather?" -- I replied: "I'm fine with brief could weather but I don't like ongoing cold weather."
Thank you so much! I didn't realize you had signed "short", I thought it was name. And I forgot the sign for "continue"! It all makes so much more sense now.Thank you so much for your help!
I signed: "Actually I'm never sick! [laughs] Maybe once in a great while." I then signed: "SUPPOSE I SICK? I TAP-other-person SUBSTITUTE-for-me COME-to-here" Or in other words "If I get sick I arrange for a substitute."
That's okay. You don't have to understand everything for the curriculum to work. Just get the target vocabulary and move on to the next lesson. =========================== How to use ASL University to learn sign language for free: 1. I think he's funny too. I haven't had any sound though for the past 13 classes :/ anyone know how to fix this? I guess it makes it easier to pay attention and it's a sign language class anyway haha. Thanks for all of these great videos! They are so helpful! You're awesome!

Bill Vicars I learn asl from you the most.
One of my favorite parts of watching this video is seeing Katelyn's improvement over the course. That's so encouraging. :-)
ksacha77 me too!
It really is!

I just LOVE Caitlyn! She has such a good spirit.
I like Dr.Bill his naturally funny😆have sense of humor..you not feel bored of his class😅😆
You are so funny. I wish you was my teacher in person.
Bill you are amazing and hilarious! Always make me laugh at least once in each of your lessons.
Thanks for putting these videos out here. if you hadent i would have failed my class
43:29 I busted out laughing and woke up my husband.
I love those random funny moments!
this is the longest ive ever gotten in his asl classes. im impressed with myself lol
8:25 sounds like an interesting time in the park for Katelyn and Bill.
12:59 bill seems to like his snow.
18:19 but on a serious note. for the sign WILL. Could that also mean a person will? like their "last will and testament" that kind of thing
Great question! Nope. The sign WILL (as in future) doesn't work for "will" as in a last will and testament. Just spell "will" in those situations.
some parts I'm cold just watching them do the signs for winter things.
thanks for the lessons they help 4 my class!
Is this in front of a classroom? I see you signing off behind the camera sometimes and just wondered who you were talking to. :)
What do I start on next after I finish the first 15 videos? Thanks!
16
Ha ha I had a comment that said 16. I don't think there is a 16.
yeah there is. I'm watching 15, 16, and 17 now
I see your reply Robert but it's not showing here. Can you let me know how you got to 15, 16 and 17? Thanks!

What did you sign between 7:18 and 7:20?
I signed:
SHORT-term FINE BUT CONTINUE CONTINUE COLD not-LIKE ME.
Which is to say, in response to her question "Do you like cold weather?" -- I replied:
"I'm fine with brief could weather but I don't like ongoing cold weather."
Thank you so much! I didn't realize you had signed "short", I thought it was name. And I forgot the sign for "continue"! It all makes so much more sense now.Thank you so much for your help!
Curls21 I thought name too. At least I’m not alone and thank you for asking this question!
What does Bill sign at 26:26?
I signed:
"Actually I'm never sick! [laughs] Maybe once in a great while."
I then signed:
"SUPPOSE I SICK? I TAP-other-person SUBSTITUTE-for-me COME-to-here"
Or in other words "If I get sick I arrange for a substitute."
@@sign-language thank you, I had trouble detecting the "actually" and "substitute." Thanks for the help - a fast response!

Katelyn is indicating that she gets up at 6:00AM to go running.
25:30 Hillarious!!!
I did not understand anything Bill said in the beginning
That's okay. You don't have to understand everything for the curriculum to work.

It's muted, they have no sound.
Kaitlyn looked uncool trying to sign cool and her face was weird
One way to make sure I don’t forget how to sign “Snow”
Yes indeed. A "good" memory aid here and there helps so much eh?
