    I like the headlights in my 579. They worked great before I put LEDS in. They improved it but still weren't bad. My hazard switch is on the right side of the wheel. (2016)

    Hi Martin, Great video on the new truck. As I have said before I enjoy watching your trucking videos for the scenery, appreciating what truckers contribute to the economy and the personal stories we see. It was nice to see you meet Kurt. You and Alice have a very even keel attitude, works best in a stressful job driving 80,000lbs in tough conditions. Learning the technical issues about the trucks is best learned from someone like you who knows first hand. It's great to "sit" with both of you when you drive with your cameras, I really appreciate it. Hope Santa was good to all in the family. Cheers Daryn

    Good comparison Martin, I think the windshield size is driver preference. When I drove a KW cabover way back in the 80s, I loved the visibility. I am 5 foot 10 and still pumped the seat up. I love sitting up high. I don't know if I could ever get used to a w900 with a visor. To me, it was like looking through a slot. To each his own I suppose. Happy healthy prosperous new year.

    One of my peeves, is the big windshields in the newer trucks. Yet they have the basic sun visors that don’t come down far enough.
    Last Cascadia I drove was a 2019. Was a nice truck, except for the visor issue & the driver seats are hard like a park bench.
    Many times dropping off the hill into Denver the sun rise was brutal. They even close the road in the early morning for the sun.
    I would have to pull over, and drape a long strip of paper towel off the visor, so I could see going down the big hill into Denver.

    Good video as always. I would agree on the things you said that annoy you especially the location of the four-way flasher. I am not sure what the difference is between an ultra loft and your truck. Could you answer that for me? And I think the reason why you really bought the Peterbilt is so Alice can open the fuel tank caps lol.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Our truck is the ultraloft. It’s the sleeper, it’s a tall “condo” style sleeper. Then you have your regular mid roofs.

    I drive a 2020 Volvo and the sunlight can be a major issue in the morning. I also drop my seat all the way down and I still have great visibility, but the sun still comes in hard and the only way to fix it is to raise the seat, which I really don't like doing.
    So I fully sympathize with you on that.

    Marten, if the 4 way switch is a CANBUS, you should be able to move it to another switch location, as the chip in the switch will tell the body computer what it is supposed to control.
    If not, oh well, try a different tack, on that one.
    You might have to talk to your local dealer.
    Happy New Year to all.

    • @TruckingTogether

    • @carlthor91

      @@TruckingTogether Talk to a Peterbilt tech, you might just be able to swap two switches, and the chassis computer identifies what switch is where.
      With Freightliner and Western Star, you can rearrange the dash gauges, without concern as they tell the system what they can report, without the need to swap wires.
      As I said, talk to the technician.

    With the cloth seats and halogen lights....I suspect that truck was spec'd on the cheaper side. Look for the optional sun visor...might be one that has an additional panel that lowers out of the main one to offer more protection.
    Those are fairly minor complaints.......!

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a fleet spec. Most I see are halogen, I hear the hid are not as common when they fail to replace and costly.

    • @werkspartsllc7856
      @werkspartsllc7856 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TruckingTogether I have had at least 4 new cars with factory HID headlights. Very good light.....and NEVER had to replace any part on those systems. Not to say that cannot happen, but reliability on FACTORY systems is very good. The high failure rate comes from the aftermarket/conversion systems. I have used those on motorcycles and a couple vehicles. They don't last well...always keep a spare with you!
      Last two new vehicles have had factory LED lighting. Very good lighting and very reliable. But just like the HID the aftermarket stuff is nowhere near as reliable nor does it function as well.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  ปีที่แล้ว

      Key word here is cars, they are reliable in cars for sure but a truck is different. It shakes non stop for 4-5 days a week straight and stuff like that has a much shorter lifespan.

    The quality of ALL heavy truck manufacturers have declined. It amazing how we have had to lower our standards to convince ourselves we have a good truck to drive. Emission engines are unreliable. Auto shift transmissions are way more expensive to maintain than a manual. But, this is what "progress" has turned the trucking industry into. It's disappointing.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it’s the laziness in people, automation is the new way. I wouldn’t say new trucks are worst, they’re definitely more comfortable than say a 90s fld, stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer, drive nicer too. But the quality for sure ain’t there (unless we’re talking 90s freightliner doors) lol

It's cheap and then ever burn out. You just buy them for whatever type of halogen bulb it took not based on the vehicle itself. Do it for high and low beam. Much brighter than led because it could be focused properly.

    The Paccar engine doesn’t always get as good of mpg’s as the X-15. I never drove a Paccar powered truck that got over 6.5-7 mpg hauling common freight. That said my 2023 579 X15 powered truck avg 8-9 mpg. I’ll agree the X15 is much easier to work on and the parts are more readily available than the Paccar engines.

    you would think, now this is going to be a crazy idea ok so bare with me. Being the biggest and heaviest thing on the highway you would think headlight design would be a factor, especially in a 100 thousand dollar ride. nope! Safety only matters when DOT certifies it lol

      Dry van. Both trucks are anywhere from 7.5-8.2 mpg. The ultraloft does slightly better then the mid roof. That’s running 70mph. Light to medium loads. Personally I wouldn’t go for the MX13. To many problems.

    I had so much problems with the Paccar engine you wouldn t beleive it ! had to change the actuator ! there was so many codes well i still got pictures of some of the multiple codes that was on the dash computer screen ! And that engine was weak ! no power ! that was the Kenworth T-660 w/studio sleeper w/18 speed trans ! My boss bought it used from Normandin transport ! So when i had a problem i would call Normandin s garage s boss because they knew that truck ! Then one day the guy told me he couldn t do any work on that truck because they sold the company all together ! they only work on the company trucks ! no outsiders ! Headlights always was a problem for me ! ( leaving Edmonton at 11.30 pm ) is one of my vids that you can see how bad the headlights were ! couldn t see shit ! Sunvisor ! i bought a sunvisor extention that was more or less like looking through sunglasses and that you can fold under the sunvisor when not using ! it solved the sun problem ! you really need to get that ! Nothing worst than having the sun in your eyes ! 😎

    You hit a pet pieve of mine...lighting on big trucks. With the technology out there now for forward directed light, the only excuse for poor lighting is the manufacturer cutting costs....or passing costs onto the owner...cost of effective lighting, cost of incident disbursements, cost of potential law suits.
    There's no excuse for the manufactures... and non of them have effective lighting.

    How often would you recommend replacing the crank case filter in these newer X15 Cummins?

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don’t have a crankcase filter, just a catch can aka: oil separator that returns the oil from the vapors back to the pan. The old 871s use to have a filter that would plug up so Cummins came out with a lifetime filter, most of the newer isx15s came with them, but the x15 is different.

I was not much of an automated fan but since you got yours I would probably go that route if I was perchasing a tractor. Yup hoods are nice and so is a manual 18 speed., But the fuel mileage is King. I think you were wise sticking with an X-15. Can hardly wait till the Green Machine is earning its keep. Bet there will be some nice videos coming out of that truck. Any who Martin.
