Some buildings such as the Staples Centre in Los Angeles complete a similar conversion in just 2-3 hours. A few times a year the Lakers or Clippers will play an afternoon game and the Kings will play later that night at 7:00 pm. It's pretty crazy
On rare occasions, the minor league hockey team in Indianapolis (the Ice) plays at Conseco Fieldhouse. Conseco also used to host an arena football team. But instead of having to install temporary seats for basketball, a section of seats just retracts into the wall. I'm sure that makes conversion a lot easier than at Air Canada Centre.
stasher87 length of time to set it up varies between games. what is depicted in the video would be for a Saturday night leaf game with. Sunday afternoon Raptors game. I used to work in the executive suites and had to stay and restock them after as well. it takes them about 2 hours to do the conversion to basketball.
I use to do this for a second job at the first Niagara center in BUFFALO ny it was cool at first but that novelty wore off fast so much back breaking work esp when the stupid monster truck show that has no bussines being in a small ass arena and like only a hundred people attend so much clean up!
What is the craziest thing to me is that the ice never goes away. They just lay down some floor insulation and multiple mats on top of it and bam you have a basketball court.
I would be interested in how they store the ice and where also the extent of the cooling system under the ice that's really fascinating I was wondering how they kept the logos on the ice
Brock Corbin No. Cities that have NBA teams usually have NHL teams, so one night the hockey team uses the facility, the next the basketball team. You also have to factor away games, and some times teams play back-to-back nights. But these people have it down to a science so that it flows smoothly and efficiently.
Why wouldn't it be more cost effective? One building vs Two. You'd still have to do all the maintenance, have a crew to do the work, and you'd have two pieces of land occupied that take up a ton of space which also sit empty for more than half the year.
@asanrules Im sorry but whoever told you that converting the ACC takes 8 Hours for NHL to NBA it takes about 4 hours, I work on the ACC's different event Change-outs
It would be funny if condensation occurred and the court became slippery. Conversely this is why some times ice conditions become bad after a different event was on it hours before. Ice gets too soft so the puck creates odd bounces and such.
Almost all do. The key is to design an arena that is great for hockey sight lines, but cozy for basketball too. I feel the Staples Center gets an F for this. Remember how no one liked NBA games at domes. Well that 's what they basically did. The old Boston Garden to me had the perfect layout and should've been modeled for today. Not a bad seat in the house for anything, including concerts.
Well, there's like 11 arenas that are shared between NBA and NHL teams, so it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary for the players. But, also, the black panels used to cover the ice before the hardwood is laid down are insulating. Not so much to keep the basketball players from feeling cold, but to keep the heat out of the ice so it stays hard.
i m from india.here we don`t have any established sport.forget about about professional one.so we usually tune into epl for soccer or to nba for basketball.after viewing this video i must admit that many indians like me are actually lazy even to do our regular work.i would like to applaud all these gentlemen for the hard work they do which gives the platform for public entertainment.
It's 2018 you can't tell me that this switch over couldn't be automated. Sure it would cost tens of millions to set it up, but that would pay for itself in a couple of years tops.
Wait so the wood basketball surface is a bunch of panels? Neato. Do they fit together like puzzle pieces or are they super heavy? Or like, do the black mats have a lot of traction? I could see the wood panels slipping around and causing cracks between them and whatnot with people walking and sliding and stuff on them. What stops that from happening?
They fit together with a tongue-and-groove system, and the edgle locks it all together. Same system is often used for dance floors in banquet halls, and a bunch of otherness places. They're just as well made as an NBA court, which is also resurfaced annually and completely replaced every ten years.
Geez, wouldn´t it be so much easier and more economic in the long run if a stadium was built for each sport. The stadiums would probably be more durable. It may seem outlandish, but just an idea
No lol it'd be easier but it's more expensive to pay for the extra space, pay for the construction, separate bills, separate workers, especially when they'll only use each arena for half a year
Yeah Cédrine. Thx. I guess u r probably right. I´m an expatriate Canadian. Real estate in Toronto is sky-high. I think only in Vancouver it is worse. Still, the assembling and disassembling of the arena requires an incredible amount of hard work, large number of labourers and quite a few hours. Doesn´t come cheap either. Let´s just hope the Leafs and the Raptors become champions - this year would be great! :-)
@mkjhagfv you like this vid then you might want to checkout the time lapse 2010 nba allstar game where the cowboy stadium(football field) is converted to basketball court
When they take up the ice floor what are those tiles made of? Is there ice on top of those tiles that they melt after the game? Is there ice under the tiles that they leave there all season? What about concerts and stuff?
can someone tell me how the took the seats out of the hockey arena part then added them back in? this went little too fast so i didnt know. thanks in advance!
+Maxs Gaming Hub The seats at both ends of the ACC arena are collapsible on the first tier, so they can be moved to various configurations depending on whether it is hockey, basketball, or a concert. There are 9 extra rows at each end to accommodate basketball games.
I'm sure this arena and city is dying to see the Maple Leafs and/or the Raptors make the final round which has never happened at this location before in history. As of 2019, Auston Matthews and Kawhi Leonard have yet to make that a reality.
When I was a kid I thought indoor arenas have multiple rooms like a movie house. Lol
Me too lol.
Bro I'm 21 years old 😂😂 I JUST found out its not like that! 😭💔
I’m 17 and thought it was like this till now
xSour Budz I’m sorry but HOW I understand if your 3 but come on 17
Thanos _ have either of you been to an arena?
holy shit all this in one night its frickin awesome
mushab Don't think it was one night pretty sure it was like 2 days
Mujib Rahman look at the desc
Mujib Rahman there's back to back games sometimes
Some buildings such as the Staples Centre in Los Angeles complete a similar conversion in just 2-3 hours. A few times a year the Lakers or Clippers will play an afternoon game and the Kings will play later that night at 7:00 pm. It's pretty crazy
Mike Rayman the description says about 11 hours
wtf am i doing? its 3 am
0YAL lmao same here
Alex Hickey what are we all doing o__O
0YAL same! 😣
I know that feel
it's 4 morning and tomorrow i have biochemestry
Watch in reverse to see NBA to NHL
how??
Download the video and then edit it your self
Eye opening stuff. Pretty cool to see the whole process that make these transformations happen
I can imagine all the grounds crew going "All right, the Maple Leafs are done, let's go on to the good team". xD
Three_Dolla_Slice lol right
ecksdee
Three_Dolla_Slice have you been living under a rock when it comes to hockey
The leafs are doing great
R!OT EARTH I know right
Three_Dolla_Slice this was in 2007...both teams were pretty mediocre
Wow this was made in 2007! It’s not very common that you will see hd vids from this era!
funnier yet this randomly showed on my feed in 2022
Wow; I think it is crazy how much bigger the rink is than the court!! We never really get to notice that!
So the ice doesn't melt after you put the tarp on?
The sheets work as an insulation. Melting and re-making the ice would take days
some stadiums have the cold air circulate underneath
Dylan Leyvas all rinks have refrigerant flowing underneath as long as the ice is there.
arenas
not stadiums
The ice is usually preserved during the whole season. The water is changed once a year.
This video made me realize that basketball court is so small compare to hockey's court
Hockey rink
LeBronto Arena
I saw a comment on a video like this from a kid that was a NBA 2k fanatic... he said basketball is way harder to set up than hockey is...
no.
Lmao. I am a huge basketball fan and like basketball more than hockey, but hockey is harder to set up AND play.
You just watched it. They are the same.
fake name I don’t think that laying down boards of wood are the same as 7 days of making several layers of ice.
I saw clock start around 10:06 until 8:14 so I'm guessing 10-12 hours in total!
Yes most clocks are used to tell time
now its done within 45 minutes
Gurjasan Brar how

they actually go back in time to get in done faster
I use to do this for a second job at the first Niagara center in BUFFALO ny it was cool at first but that novelty wore off fast so much back breaking work esp when the stupid monster truck show that has no bussines being in a small ass arena and like only a hundred people attend so much clean up!
Spellman Pat must have been hell too make sure all of the dirt is out of the way. Probably worse than dealing with the ice.
What is the craziest thing to me is that the ice never goes away. They just lay down some floor insulation and multiple mats on top of it and bam you have a basketball court.
Seeing a video from 16 years ago and you remember how long it’s been since the leafs advanced
Found this on my recommendation for no reason didn't regret it
Hockey Stadium Is Bigger Than the raptors court
So technically if you sit in the first 10 rows behind the baskets you can tell people that you were on the ice!
Here because of the steph curry slip interview
bro samemee
I would be interested in how they store the ice and where also the extent of the cooling system under the ice that's really fascinating I was wondering how they kept the logos on the ice
The logos are painted on the ice, then covered in more ice. There are videos here that demonstrate.
NBA on ICE would be more interesting
Scottrade Center in St. Louis also converts for college games
Big up me brethren, a mighty video dat!
More life and strength.
Man that zamboni was fast 🤣
Craig Collie speedboni
Ryder Grimes haha🤣😂
11 hours?! MSG in NYC does it in about 4 hours.
How could this possibly be more cost-efficient over decades of time vs building a new arena?
This switcharoo would happen almost daily
I assume that the hockey stadium was a one-time thing but idk
Brock Corbin No. Cities that have NBA teams usually have NHL teams, so one night the hockey team uses the facility, the next the basketball team. MrCanadaOntario "switcharoo" omg yes that word made me feel weird
NickName Gaming k
@LyricsCo yea its smaller but its more pieces to lay down than anything else
@asanrules
Im sorry but whoever told you that converting the ACC takes 8 Hours for NHL to NBA it takes about 4 hours, I work on the ACC's different event Change-outs
I thought there’s a two arena inside of the air canada centre one for basketball and one for hockey
It would be funny if condensation occurred and the court became slippery. Conversely this is why some times ice conditions become bad after a different event was on it hours before. Ice gets too soft so the puck creates odd bounces and such.

It seems like our sport teams like to share stadium/arena; TFC with Argos, Raptors with Leafs
This isn't pretty common in cities with both NBA and NHL teams.
unfourtunately the staples center's time change is 1 hour and 42 minutes
Nigga that was so satisfying 😣
I wonder if it’s actually colder on that court than any other regular courts.

Doesnt India have Cricket
Speech 100
Penguin1098 lmao
Arena conversion of nba or nhl to wwe ring? That could be nice
It's 2018 you can't tell me that this switch over couldn't be automated. Sure it would cost tens of millions to set it up, but that would pay for itself in a couple of years tops.
So this is where the phrase, “I’m putting your ankles on skates!” Come from lol
Have they ever accidentally set up the court in the wrong direction
That's just hypnotizing
wow I didn't know they play basketball right on top of the ice. I thought they melted it all before each NBA game.
bkriegel95 it takes around 3-4 days to build up the ice, and a day to remove it.
Just realized its air canada center home of my boys the raptors and maple leafs
What is this song I love it
A Little Night Music by Mozart
Dr. Nick darude-sandstorm
You really should've listened to more classic music in your early stage
Hi Dr Nick!
Dr. Nick ;'
Very cool timelapse
that looks interesting and at the same time, it looks like it is very hard work.
Is there a marker somewhere that makes it easy for them to set up the basketball floor in the same exact location each time, or do they have to guess?
bruh as a kid I always thought it was just a giant block of ice...
Yeah! Leafs and Raptors FTW!
Go Raptors boi
yeah! 6ixnation!
#thisisouryear
Leafs suck dude the Red Wings are where it's at
Three_Dolla_Slice Detroit is a shit hole. The leafs have 13 stanley cups so SUCK IT!
Wait so the wood basketball surface is a bunch of panels? Neato. Do they fit together like puzzle pieces or are they super heavy? Or like, do the black mats have a lot of traction?

I'm hoping they pay the crews that changes all of this are paid well. That has to take forever.
We get paid shit
Thanks for this. We wondered how this happened
awesome video, thanks for uploading
what if they have a game in the same place at the same time?
They do the schedule for thaybdosent happen
I enjoy the song more than the conversion lol What's the title of the song?
11 hours? dam there must have been alot of people then
no it takes them only about 2 to 2.5 hours to do that.
So,after they cover the ice they play jigsaw puzzle?
I don’t know why but the but the basketball arena looks small
Is the monitor in the center of the raptors court.? I think its off
Geez, wouldn´t it be so much easier and more economic in the long run if a stadium was built for each sport. The stadiums would probably be more durable. It may seem outlandish, but just an idea

It would be too expensive to build two separate arenas.
The whole arena conversion took more than 10 hours. Look at the top center in 0:40 and 2:23. The time was from 10 am/pm to 8.19 am/pm.
@mkjhagfv you like this vid then you might want to checkout the time lapse 2010 nba allstar game where the cowboy stadium(football field) is converted to basketball court
I had always thought they had a magic button
how old is this clip? must have been back when the leafs were good and could win... oh wait
+The TallGuy 2007
That was always.
Colin Barry its 10years old
I like looking at the time at on the jumbotron lol
that is a lot of empty seats for the nba game
carson032000 they are warming up ,what do you expect -.-
I already saw a video of that. Nothing new.
When they take up the ice floor what are those tiles made of? Is there ice on top of those tiles that they melt after the game? Is there ice under the tiles that they leave there all season? What about concerts and stuff?
Ice is covered with insulating tiles for other events during hockey season. Ice is melted and removed after hockey season.
@asanrules Does the weight of the hardwood and the rubber mats crack the ice?
Amar7605 lol no. the ice is frozen all the way through. its not that thick either
they cant its like a tile + it will take time remakin the ice and the team logo
Can you upload everyday with ZOD videos if you can
can someone tell me how the took the seats out of the hockey arena part then added them back in? this went little too fast so i didnt know. thanks in advance!

KP L thank you!
Not really rubber mats, their more like heavy duty foam boards
All I could think of was.
"RoCking and fucking rolling"
music reminds me of old cartoons
Victor Pena lol for real 😂
Cause old cartoons use classical music
Ex. Tom & Jerrycho, Loony tunes
When they do this at the Barclays Center the scoreboard is not centered and its so fucking annoying
I'm sure this arena and city is dying to see the Maple Leafs and/or the Raptors make the final round which has never happened at this location before in history. As of 2019, Auston Matthews and Kawhi Leonard have yet to make that a reality.
Welp
Now seriously: Why doesn't the ice simply melt under those mats?
Its cooled from below
Science son science
Sean Schekl they're not mats they're planks made of fiber glass and the ice is cooled from below it'll melt a little but not enough to matter
When did a truck fit there
And that's for every single game too. 😥🙄
What do they do with the ice? It would be expensive to keep it cool during the entire basketball game.
Obviously not, since they just cover it with insulation and lay the hardwood atop.
If you want to know the NBA to NHL conversion, watch the video in reverse ;)
is their a website that ranks the best conversion arenas i think my boss told me their was a site but i never checked it
Wait Toronto has a basketball team also they like a American city now
H20Shane The Raptors have been around since 1995.
Whoa! An 11 year old video in my recommended? Why?
I didn't know basketball was played on ice!
lol good editing for 11 years ago
They don't store them like the NBA courts.
Why this music?
Why not?
MclevinHD it is annoying
Jay Zbieszkowski turn the volume down.......
Cody Wolford nah I just left the vid.
Cody Wolford I wanna be listening to 🔥,nothing else
They do all that for an empty stands ??
cool vid
lots of hard work to convert every 3-4 days
how much cost each time convert the arena?
Air Canada Center, Toronto ❤
the ice underneath doesnt melt?
How can melt the ice so fast ?
