LOVE Flamecraft. For how cutesy it looks, I found myself pleasantly surprised with what you can do in this game. Definitely not heavy, but it isn't the uber-light worker placement game I was expecting either.
I am not a fan of expansions but you are 100% SPOT ON about Champions of Midgard... it MAKES the game that much better. Dont get me wrong, it is great as stand alone but it increases the wow factor by a lot. Great list guys!
One thing I really like from DT top 10 lists is that each game doesnt just have a slide showing the box. I think that second slide showing an action shot, a mid game pic. I think that absolutely makes it. This was my first video from you guys and i just felt so much less involved because i had no idea what you were talking about.
@@MrBugz94 Sorry you felt that way! Copyright laws are dangerous waters, frankly. And TH-cam only gives you three chances to get it right before they shut you down. While I was with the DT, I experienced first hand how easy it is for people to make life hard for you in that rite. I’m not going to make it easy for people to do that here (or there) again. Thanks for being here, though! BGG is a great resource to have running in the background. Hope to see you again!
My favourite is the game Federation, so many choices behind every placement and they are double sided workers that do different things and you can modify them throughout the game
Bottom half Alien Frontiers and Top half Stone Age. These are what got me into gaming back when, and I love them all the more today. So Happy to see the love for them outside my small circle shown today. So much out there to play, but they really do stand the test of time :)
I got Kingsburg 3rd edition this week. Funny to see it here. Thanks for the video. For those planning to get Champions of Midgard, pro tip. They sell an add on "Jarl box" that comes with the expansions and some upgrades. Highly suggest looking into that as opposed to buying the expansions separately.
Oh, Tir Na Nog, I just played that at my brothers! Nice list to wind down the day. Worker placement is still one of my favorite game mechanics. I agree with JT that dice placement is not quite the same, can still be very good, but a little different than placing a person worker. Best Hybrid games would be another good topic.
I really love demon worker / hell village and edge of darkness. My #1 all time is dwellings. I also consider 20 strong to be dice worker placement and would throw that in my list. Dune Imperium is fun too but i was let down by the promise of deck building.
Given that JT enjoys heavier games I can recommend Hybris: Disordered Cosmos. It's a really fun WP game with a lot of stuff going on that's also really strong thematically. It also features a expansion providing a solo/co-op mode which is much more interesting than the usual high score or sleepy automa in many WPs. Highly recommend!
The next time I get a decent amount of free time, I'm going to have to solo Kanban and A Feast for Odin, because I've wanted to play those for ages, but can't get them to the table. For some reason I struggle getting worker placement games to the table. I really want to play Dwellings of Eldervale and The Prodigals Club also. 5: Targi. 4: Istanbul. 3: Sky Mines. 2: Lost Ruins of Arnak. 1: Dune Imperium. Even out of those 5, the only one I get to the table often is Dune Imperium. I've played Istanbul a bunch because it has an app that I've played for years, but I've never played it against an actual human.
I totally agree with you on Stone Age. Also, there’s dice mitigation if you manage the tools well. Feast for Odin is one of my top. Champions of Midgard, alien frontiers is one of my favorite. Of course it’s dice placement, but the same thing, number 2 for me is raiders and my top is actually an old classic pillars of the Earth. so I crossed over with both of you, but had one that you didn’t select. But then I would also have an honorable mention for Caverna. Question on Kingsburg which I love, I have first edition, does the second edition improve or anything? Great list guys!

@@CountDewkeww the combat is really not the main focus of the game and winning with 1 die against 6 feels like an epic moment every time. I cannot recommend dwellings enough and its a great time to preorder for the 4th wave printing

Flamecraft is definitely NOT worker placement, any more than Scythe or Kanban EV are worker placement. They're worker movement. You only have one worker and have to move it each time to a different space. It's much closer to action selection than it is to worker placement. Would you call Ares Expedition worker placement? You're doing the exact same thing, but with cards instead of spaces, and that's only because you have to have the action you choose be hidden. At least with Kanban EV, the place you choose blocks the other players a-la worker placement, so it's closer. Both great games, just not worker placement. But hey, at least you both had one invalid selection 😜 This is all said tongue in cheek, btw, since you were so adamant that it WAS worker placement, I had to disagree. So many games defy easy classification anyway, it's silly to be too rigid. Great lists, and great games. Thanks so much.
Any reason why your video editors NOT including an image of the game board and pieces in the video? Would be a nice edition instead of mostly just seeing your faces in the video... show more game since that is what we are here for. Just my 2 cents that's all.
@@charlesreed8244 I am the video editor. I’m a one-man show in the rite. So, I’m not going to be opening that door of possibility for anyone. Additionally, the amount of time that would have to be sunk into finding pics on BGG that are copyright-free and that also look good is daunting, at best ( I tried that, too.) The audience has BGG at your disposal and I include enough information in the lower third for each game to find those pics on your own. Thanks for being here!
