    Poor Nast. She's still absolutely gorgeous to watch on bars aside from a few form breaks, but you can see by the time she goes into her Pak salto she's already exhausted. On beam she just lacks the confidence she used to have. Had she started her comeback a year earlier, it could have been a different story for her.

      Poor Nast?! I admire and respect her for her accomplishments, but I thought it was kind of arrogant of her to try to start her comeback that LATE in an Olympic cycle. I mean, she KNEW what it took (sacrifice and dedication in those seemingly never-ending practice sessions before 2008) to even make the Olympic team (let alone become champion!) -- did she really believe that she could regain her Olympic-caliber form and conditioning in less than a year! =)

    Nastia has the most beautiful lines and movement out of any gymnast I’ve seen. I love her style. She is so fluid and elegant. Present gymnastics lacks gymnasts like her sadly :(

    The biggest comeback from the veteran 2008 Olympians however has been Alicia Sacramone. She tore her Archilles in October and is already back to form on vault and beam and is predicted to be floor ready by Trails

    I watched a video of her from 2008 and you can see a totally different mindset and level of determination. In 2008, her goal was to get the AA gold.
    Now...it just seems like she is trying to prove to herself she can still do it. It's a little unfair to others who are working so hard to make a good impression, such as Sacramone, meanwhile she can show up less than 6 months before with the clout of a gold medal and walk on to the Olympic Trials. At least Shawn admit she's not at that level.

      Lol not with shawn’s routine in 2008 and she would not have medalled in 2012 either even if she had her form since her difficulty really suffered because the 2008 code favored her.

    Nastia will show herself on bars. That's her best apparatus, beam is her second best, she showed herself there last night but tomorrow, she will show herself on bars. As for calling her fat, are you out of your mind? Coming from a gymnast, it is a big deal to compete at visas or just nationals in fact to the people who are bashing on her, I'd like to see you do it. When she figures out whats up with her bar routine she'll be a big help to the US they are weak on bars this year. She deserves it.

  • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    They were not watching others perform because they didn't want to psych themselves out. If they see someone do a bad job or fall, they may worry that could happen to them or get too confident. Or if someone does really well, they can get intimidated. Gymnastics is as much a mental sport as it is physical. Many athletes try to stay in the zone and not get distracted by the external environment. It is just like Michael Phelps listening to music to stay focused before getting in the pool.

    Of course the Americans congratulated their competitors in London. You can re-watch the competition on TH-cam. LA was the biggest joke of an Olympics ever with the boycott. Of course you'd see Retton all smiley. With the Soviets there, she'd have been petrified. Atlanta wasn't exactly a showcase of good sportsmanship by the Russians.

  • @duhhxxxiloveyou
    @duhhxxxiloveyou 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah but people are hating since the olympics are only a month away and she is no way ready. i think if all of this was last year nobody would be hating like when shawn came back rough but the fact she's coming back now, not hitting, yet expects to make the team is pissing people off. plus the way nbc showed her fail bar routine 10000 times instead of showing anyone else was infuriating

    Others deserve the spot that it seems Marta wants this girl to have. With all due respect to Nastia's career, she has had her day. You can't train six months and waltz in and claim one of FIVE places on a team with this much depth... unless there is more politics involved than they would ever let on...

  • @withlove312
    @withlove312 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    This comeback was a waste of time. If there was ever proof that NBC manufactures drama, it's here, where they are trying to bullshit viewers into believing Nastia had a chance when they knew very well that she did not. The worst by product of this is that it made people hate Nastia, if they didn't already, and unfairly so.

    • @unevercalled
      @unevercalled 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +withlove312 I agree with what you said, but I think those who have a problem with Nastia, myself included, is that she left her comeback so late. It seemed almost arrogant that she thought she could just step back into elite with so little time left. I know she was injured as well, but she should have started her come back long before, if she really intended on going to London.

    • @spiderlover678
      @spiderlover678 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      She wasn't trying to be all-around champion again. She just wanted to help the team on bars. God knows that was their weakest event at the time. She only did beam as well because she wanted to be a little bit more marketable to Martha. I don't think it was arrogant of her at all. If you were an Olympic gymnast, wouldn't you want to come back and try for it again, even if you know your chances aren't that good? Some of these girls just love competing so much, it hurts them to think they need to finally move on to something else. I'm sure that is what Nastia was probably thinking, and why she tried to come back.

  • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Aliya pouted for most of the competition. She was smiling in qualifications when but when the real thing started he attitude changed. There were very few times she smiled; winning gold in her specialty, bars and when she did better than expected in other events. Like when she got the AA bronze even after her disastrous beam routine or ending up with the bronze in floor finals. When Aly made mistakes on AA beam she didn't act like a spoilt brat. She went to talk to her coach.

  • @Jeikudes
    @Jeikudes 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    did she get connection points for connecting her pak salto to a clear hip circle?

  • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    And it's not about being scared, it's about being focused. Gabby had lost her focus by the events finals with all the press attention. That's why she didn't do well. Komova fell too. That's when you can tell someone had given up. They were both capable of 15s but that's where the mental part of the competition comes in. You do not understand this sport. I don't know who Molova(?) is but Grishina scored a 12.466. That's not your idea of falling apart. The girl did not complete a tumbling pass.

  • @GymchampZW
    @GymchampZW 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with Gala, the men looked much more "prepared" than the women looked. I wouldn't say the women are "half ass-ing" their gymnastics, but the women did appear to be slightly unprepared. Which is odd considering the Games are in fewer than 50 days

  • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That was a nice thumbs up Aliya gave her coach after she fell in AA beam. Oh wait, she acted like a brat. Good sportsmanship isn't just being gracious when you are winning, but also when you lose. What did Aliya and Komova say to Gabby when she won? No hugs and kisses then. Komova was too busy crying. More evidence you have no idea what you are talking about. Aliya wasn't at 2011 Worlds. Gabby came close but she stayed in bounds. Say hi to your fictional cardinals friends for me.

    Even from this, now that we know she's not making the London Olympics, you can tell that she's just not up to the standards that she was four years ago. Yes, her beam was a hell of a lot better than bars. It still wasn't the solid routine that it takes to be the best in the world. I understand that, like she said, she's got to take another shot at it. After all, you won't know if you can do it until you try. But she doesn't have it now.

    And how silly is your comment on Phelps not listening to music while in the pool or during the relay. Duh! That's when he's actually competing. He says he listens to music to mentally prepare for that moment. He isn't chatting around and socializing before the clock is turned on. He is getting pumped up. Mr played-sports-before, I'd like to see you keep your cool on a 4 inch balance beam. May be then you would understand the mental preparation needed for a sport like gymnastics.

    I'm still trying to figure out how your supposed baseball experience give you some kind of superior insight into gymnastics. Even their team event calls for each individual gymnast to perform alone. Not with or against anyone. They are put on the spot for 2 minutes or less. No do overs. One strike and that is recorded. Maroney did five vaults the entire olympics. Less than a minute total competition time. Very little room for error. But you seem to know more about gymnastics than their coaches.

    The others all watched and who ended up with the gold? That's right, USA. It's artistic gymnastics, but this is a sport. Strategy is important. You are talking about the olympics, not a high school talent show. They need to stay focused on their performance and not what is going on around them. The coaches also advised them not to look at their scores. Look at how the Russians fell apart towards the end of the team competition. They lost hope and it showed in their routines. They lost focus.

    Marta needs to stop watching Nastia and look at what some of the other girls can do. Elizabeth Price is really good on bars and can do all the other events, but she was barely mentioned last night.): finnegan has really pretty bars too. Its not a difficult bar set and she can score in the 9 in execution. Bross's bars seem better and her beam has improved, besides the dismount. I sometimes wonder why Valeri or Marta won't change it, and then I think oh yeah if Bross hits then Nastia can't go!

    They went over to competitors and gave them handshakes, pats and thumbs up. No one is tougher than former World Champ who tore her ACL at the 2011 Worlds. The Chinese girls did it as well and they all gave the Brit hugs. All that is except for most of our girls, but not all. (Gabby stepped out of bounds and wasn't called on it.). • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What sportsmanship did the Russians show that was somehow better than the Americans? Weeping like someone stole something from them. After Grishina's disaster, Komova and Aliya were busy crying to themselves instead of going to support their teammate. And very next performance Afanasyeva fell. By then, USA had won fair and square. Even if they fell, they were going to win. Was it sportsmanship Aliya showed when she pushed her coaches hand away after she fell in the AA beam routine?

  • @FlashingLight2
    @FlashingLight2 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was it good sportsmanship when they gave up so easily when they made mistakes? Gabby made her mistake on beam but she tried to say on. Compare that to Komova's attitude on the same day. She just came of like she did not care. She didn't attempt stay on that beam like she did on the team beam. Her toes held on so tight then. It was the same thing when she went out of bound on her AA vault. You are in a competition! Fight to stay in bounds! She just gave up. Aliya had thoes moments too.

    Your comments are all ridiculous and stupid. The gymnasts from other countries usually do not watch the competition. It's not just the Americans. This is the Olympics. The nerves required to remain focused are incomparable with your little league baseball career. Once you learn what a Silivas is, maybe then we will take you seriously. Until then, stay off the gymnastics community on TH-cam if you have no idea what you're saying. Nastia didn't watch her competition either back when she competed.

If these girls can't perform while seeing others do well they shouldn't compete. Should they not watch each other??? Hmmm? You must never have played sports. I have. He doesnt listen to music in the pool or when watching a relay hes involved in, either
