I am trying to find ways to expand my season with my wife and daughter. I love Woodcock, in Wisconsin where I live they move out by early November. You mention they are present in Arkansas, November-December so would one likely find birds from Christmas thru the New Year, or should I head further south?

With quail hunting so far off from clay county, AR, the woodcock is my only bird for my pointer to pursue other than downed doves. To me it's a very valuable species. Great video!

Love hunting the woodcock. So much fun with a decent pointing dog.

That guy hunting these birds with a side by side .410 is obviously a expert shotgunner. I’ve tried it... the way these birds fly I had to bring out the 12 gauge the next time I went for them.

Once they get 20 yards out and start that side to side slip, it doesn’t matter what gauge you’re shooting, it’s hard to get the bead on them from behind.

@@911life5 it’s like that here too. I can get them really good if it gets really really cold for several days and they all go to running water. Other wise it’s hit and miss on even a bird a day.

I look forward to the woodcock season up here in Eastern Ontario. I gun for them over Hera, my Brittany. The season opens September 25 this year (2016) and runs through December 20th. Reality is they move through the region and are pretty much gone by the end of October. That said, I once shot a woodcock in the third week of November. I remember it well. My first Brittany, Christie, locked up on point. I thought it was an old grouse scent and when nothing flushed as I approached, I called Christie to move on. She didn't budge, then finally moved ever so slightly to nudge the bird to flush. Though I was startled, I dumped it cleanly as it attempted a hasty departure.
