One Shot: Barrel Sunset with Toyo Field on 6x12

- In this video, Jules captures a set of leaking oil barrels in the sunset with his Toyo Field 45A on Kodak Portra 160 in a beautiful 6x12 format. The location has historical significance as Nirvana played their very last concert on the ground of the old Munich Airport in Riem.

Wow. I really miss my Arca 69. And I had that lens. But seeing the set up just reminds me of what I had to go thru using that system. My hat is off to you. Still I am going to stick to my gfx.
But I agree 6x12, 6x17 and 4x5 are magic. And especially seeing a 6x17 chrome on the light table when you get it right is one of the great experiences one can have as a as photographer.

Great video. Boy 55mm is a wide lens for 4x5. I would have thought a bag bellows would have been required. Good shot!!!! A bit more light in the foreground on the barrels would have made a good shot even better (just my view of course). Perhaps a reflector of some sort bouncing in the light to the foreground

Great shot. What was the reason for shooting it with medium format film as opposed to shooting it on a 4x5 negative and cropping? Does that lens not cover 4x5?
Cheaper to buy film and cheaper to process.

great video, esp. seeing a SINAR zoom 120 back in the field, and in english, great!!- would be nice if you could ask Jules to do a review on this, and how it works, as the main videos are done by an italian and a japanese youtuber, so you can get the gestures but not the sound. ( these look so finicky with the knobs and buttons) it would be a great visual reference video to the print manual.

Really nice picture. I’m actually looking to purchase a 6x12 back and a 4x5 camera to do some projects. What back did he had to use to make the 6x12 back compatible? Also he had masks for the ground glass are these custom made or are they a part of a kit. A lot of question but I’m really looking to purchase my set up ASAP.
Maybe a video on this would be greatly helpful for the community. I’ve only ever seen the linhof and horseman 6x12 backs

What was Jules measuring? Doesn’t the film plane of his 120 back line up with the ground glass? It’s a great shot. Good to see you guys back at it.
Max - I enjoy your videos very much and always look forward to them.... Question - did Jules scan the negatives or the prints? I remember Riem. My dad took me there to stand on viewing platform in the 60's and seeing the old propeller planes land and take off - the noise was very impressive and seeing the flames and smoke coming out of the engine exhausts during engine start up - it makes an impression on kids. I remember the little shop inside the hall was one of my favourite place to buy toy aeroplanes. Is the old terminal still there or the control tower? Would be nice to get access and take photos as it had red granite walls. I believe it was built around the same time as Haus der Kunst so the architecture was similar. Also have you had a chance to find a Contax IIa or IIIa for review?
