In the late '60s I lived in Altoona, Pa., home of the Horseshoe Curve for the coal trains that were hundreds of cars long to navigate the grade, so that snap button took me back to some old memories. Love seeing what you snake out of those hard-hit grounds with that Manticore. Always enlightening and entertaining. Keep on digging!
That's really awesome Mike and I'm glad that old button brought back some good memories for you. The Manticore has been absolutely amazing out there and it really did an awesome job in the new episode coming out this morning. ATB Greg
This was a great hunt! You got silver and a bunch of old relics. That iron is awesome. I've got one but it's solid cast iron, handle and all. I loved the movie Somewhere In Time. That mystery find looked like part of a skeleton key. Awesome video Greg. 💖💯
@@FindingAmerica Ordered and just received the M8 coil. Your videos helped with the decision. I’ve got the Equinox with the 6” and the 15”, but at 72 I’m worn out after a few hours on the 15”. I’ve found that the 11” is great for most times and when you are needing to snipe that the 6” has been a godsend. I’m hoping for the same great results with the M8. Did you get an extra lower shaft for your other coils? I did that with the Equinox and see an even greater need in the manticore with the lack of a nut to keep the bolt on the shaft until you need it.
I know you will enjoy using that M8 coil! No, the coils are very easy to swap out on the Manticore so I haven't bought any extra lower shafts. I know what you're saying about the bolt being loose until you need it to install the coil, I just decided to keep the bolts in a zip lock baggie in my backpack until I need them. I'm probably going to try to get a few extra bolts just in case...@@MountainrunnerTn
Greg, the manticore is a magical detector for you. Proof in revisiting a location for six years and finding more treasures. My favorite was the embossed spoon and silver quarter and wheat cent. Nice Jason hooked up, always fun when you have a friend to share in excitement finds. ATB.👏👍😀
Thanks guys and the spoon was definitely my favorite find of the day. So nice to find a piece you can tie directly to the place you'e searching. Appreciate you two watching! ATB Greg
The screw cap you found with the silver quarter is the cap for a replaceable link fuse. One on each end and a link would slide into the cylinder and the ends bent over and the screw caps on each end would hold the link in place and the caps actually are what makes contact in the fuse block.
Another great video, Greg. The menthol inhaler caught my attention as soon as you zoomed in. Vincennes (Vin*sins), IN, is situated along the Wabash River about 30 minutes from me. It was the home of Fort Sackville, which the British surrendered to the U.S. in 1779 to George Rogers Clark. President William Henry Harrison also resided in Vincennes during his tenure as Governor of the Northwest Territory. Unfortunately, for those of us in the area, the historical areas are federal and not open to metal detecting.
Somewhere In Time was released in 1980. I was 10 years old and understood the entire movie! 43 years later, it's still in my top 3 favorites! Great video and awesome finds Greg!
When I saw the film, I discovered it was inspired by a book called Bid Time Return, so I found a copy & read it. Still love it. The original story was set at Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, with the character setting off for an entirely different reason. I hope you're a reader & are interested in seeking out that story. If you do, I hope you'll be haunted by the ending as much as it still haunts me after all these years. and whenever I hear the theme song, I'm always transported back there. And when I saw that ring come up, I knew the maker! I'm glad it contained real diamonds!
Thanks Jonathan and I saw it when it came out as well. I was 12 and it fascinated me as I had just begun metal detecting. Still love that movie to this day.
Great recoveries, Greg. 😊 I think the old Washington quarters with the eagle on the reverse are one of the most beautiful examples of American money in our short history. But then again, I like all of our designs. 🥰 I look forward to next week.
Thanks Andrea and I'm happy to see an eagle back quarter in the hole nowadays. I like it much more than all these state and commemorative quarters that keep coming out. Appreciate you watching this one! ATB Greg
Congrats on a wonderful show weekly! Great finds, history and the best immediate cleaned up photo of artifact! Really nice style my friend! I enjoy, I think many enjoy your show. Good luck,Rk.
Hey Greg, great hunt. Congrats on the Sad Iron. Love those. Congrats on the Wheaties Silver Quarter and especially the Chinese Coin. Love all the Relics. Take Care Greg
This is relaxing to watch just like Green Mountain Metal Detecting. You're videos calm me down. And ya never know, there could be rolled up $100 bills inside that menthol tube. Lol. So I take it that was like the vape back in the day. Interesting. I love finding coins, but sometimes it's the things like that, that are more interesting. And most detectorists don't care about wheaties or Washingtons, BUT there are rare ones. I see those wheat stalks.....I say heck yeah! Those cash coins are cool. I have many. I believe the ones with the thinner rims are very early ones. The earliest ones dont have any rim. Takes forever to identify them cuz theres soooo many different types.
Love watching your videos buddy. I started detecting 2 years ago and have found some amazing things. But it's crazy that we have dug very similar items around the same time. I found my first Chinese coin 2 weekends ago. Found a French coin last year around the same time as you, as well. I have some videos of my finds on this channel and my buddy has a channel much like yours and he is definitely picking up subs, I think almost 3k now. SkiSearcher is his name on TH-cam and has several awesome videos you would enjoy. Happy hunting to you from DirtandWaterFishin and SkiSearcher located in Southern Illinois.
Thanks so much and really glad you enjoy the channel! That's very cool that we've been finding similar things out there. I'm familiar with Matt's channel and glad to hear he has been picking up subs and growing his channel. Congrats on getting your first Cash coin! ATB Greg
It most certainly is Jay! I found even more when I went back this past weekend. It's all in the new episode coming out today. Hope you enjoy that one. ATB Greg
Hi Greg & Jason , well it's true what they say a place is never hunted out and you have just proved it by unearthing yet more good finds from one of your permissions , a good selection of finds and my favourite is the silver plated spoon with the college name on it a great piece of history , nice video my friend ATB Rob .
Thanks Rob and that machine has definitely proven itself over the past several weeks. Such a pleasure to use out there. That spoon was also my favorite find of the day. It's always nice to find a nice old piece that ties directly to the site you're searching. Appreciate you watching and look forward to your next outing my friend! ATB Greg
Awesome episode Greg with so many cool finds and history . That detector works great. 👍I remember that movie , it was really good. We enjoyed watching, thank you. Ward & Kim K.
Thanks a lot Judy and they're called sad irons because "sad" and "sald" were old Middle English words that meant heavy or solid. Glad you enjoyed this one! ATB Greg
I remember in my youth that there were old Chinese sewing baskets. They were round with a lid. The lid had a woven circle handle and usually red tassels and a couple of those Chinese coins dangling from it.
That's very interesting Kathryn and that definitely could explain why I have found the ones I have at that spot. Thanks so much for watching this one and glad you enjoyed it! ATB Greg
Thanks Doug and I have been collecting them for a long while. People have given me old photos, I've purchased them at estate sales and also subscribe to various sites for them as well.
This was a horseshoe that was so worn at the front center that it broke in two. Ox shoes are a half shoe but look more like a pork chop. I've never found an ox shoe here in East TN. Appreciate you watching and glad you enjoyed this one Brandan.
I recall reading that Chinese Cash coins were considered a kind of good luck charm, so maybe that's why they are found all over America and indeed Europe. Plus they were exotic souvenirs of a place that was considered exotic and mysterious a century ago -- like owning a piece of meteorite or a shark's tooth today?
I could see that as it must have been a very curious and unusual looking coin back in the day and it probably was something that captured the imagination of Americans back then
That's very interesting. I had not heard that but it makes perfect sense to me. Appreciate the help with that Jim! Thanks so much for watching this one and glad you enjoyed it! ATB Greg
Thanks Greg and I do not know of any. The Xterra Pro is a very affordable machine with great performance. You might want to look into one of those. ATB Greg
Thanks and I checked that. It's actually an acorn. If you watch until the 7.16 mark you'll see they were everywhere on the ground there! Thanks for the help and for watching. ATB Greg

That Manticore has revitalized all your old worked sites. That’s awesome! Finding that quarter really fantastic. Congrats and another great video!
Thanks and it really has been amazing to use on these old sites.

The Manticore is truly a fantastic machine 👍
I agree Dean and it's by far the best machine I have used so far. It's definitely a beast.
Great bunch of finds 😊 Love what you're pulling with the Manticore ❤ HH and take care, Greg.
Thanks 👍 a lot and I am having an absolute blast with this Manticore. ATB Greg
Awesome day. 👍
Thanks Rick and it definitely was!

I agree! I was going to say the same thing but decided to read through the comments first.
Thanks so much for the info on that one Harold! Much appreciated. ATB Greg
7:04 looked like there was a marble in with that quarter
Another great video, Greg. The menthol inhaler caught my attention as soon as you zoomed in.

Another great episode this week Greg!!!!!!
Thanks much Ezra!
Crazy good stuff out there Greg! Especially loved the RR Relic and the inhaler. Plus, silver in the hole, Gotta Love It!
Thanks and it's always awesome to find such a wide variety out there. Appreciate you watching this one! ATB Greg
Even as great as the first time!❤
Yep! You gotta love it!
I went back and revisited that amazing video and once again shared in your excitement What a haul! Truly amazing. Happy spring and Easter. 🐣🐇
Thank you so much! That was an insane hole! lol Appreciate you watching it again Valerie!
Love the update section. Hope to see more!
Really glad to hear that Brian and I am sure you will be seeing more of that segment in the future. ATB Greg
Nice episode this week, Greg. I was hoping that big iron piece was going to be a sad iron. Keep up the good work using that Manticore!
Thanks a lot Rich and I will do that!
That manticore is turning out to be an amazing machine Gregg, you've beat that place to death over the years but still find a silver quarter? Damn!
Yeah, I was pretty shocked to find that there. I found even more there in the new episode coming out today. The Manticore is amazing.

Great historical finds
Thanks very much Leo!
Nice hunt thanks for sharing!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Greg, great hunt. Congrats on the Sad Iron. Love those. Congrats on the Wheaties Silver Quarter and especially the Chinese Coin. Love all the Relics. Take Care Greg
Way to go Greg. Missed your video yesterday. Been driving for 2 days to get back to the Gulf coast and beach treasures.
Thanks Vern and always appreciate you watching! ATB Greg
1940 quarter👌
Exactly the first thing I dug with my Manticore.
Very cool and that definitely makes for an excellent first find with a new machine! Appreciate you watching this one Joey. ATB Greg

Hey Greg. I watched your hunt earlier today and wow really liked those cool looking coins and relics.
Thanks Steven and it was an awesome time out there digging it all up. ATB Greg
I just watched "Somewhere In Time" last week! Talk about weird coincidence. Love that old sad iron.
Funny how things work out! I love that old sad iron too. :)

Hey Greg. I live between Morristown and Greeneville, glad to see close to home!
Very cool and my entire channel and most of the episodes take place in that area. Glad you enjoyed watching this one Gary! ATB Greg
Great hunt Greg! Nice pulling good stuff from hard hunted spots. Jon
Thanks Jon and it's always satisfying when you can do that.
A fantastic episode with such a great variety of finds. The Manticore is awesome. Love all the old photos too.
Thanks D and that Manticore is amazing!
Much better on the focus and framing of your shots. I love watching your channel. Your videos are great....
Glad you enjoy them and I appreciate you watching, William.
Great hunt love to see what history your going to uncover. 🇺🇸
Thanks 👍 so much for watching each week, Fred!
Awesome episode Greg with so many cool finds and history . That detector works great. 👍I remember that movie , it was really good. We enjoyed watching, thank you. Ward & Kim K.
Thanks so much guys and I always appreciate you two watching each week! ATB Greg
Nice work Greg !!
Thanks!
Great find silver
Thanks Leo!
I love how you weave all the history into your videos. Maybe you know why they were called Sad Irons!?
Thanks a lot Judy and they're called sad irons because "sad" and "sald" were old Middle English words that meant heavy or solid. Glad you enjoyed this one! ATB Greg

Greg,
Congrats on another great hunt. Well done on the spoon. 👍
Where do you find all of those cool old photos?
Thanks Doug and I have been collecting them for a long while. People have given me old photos, I've purchased them at estate sales and also subscribe to various sites for them as well.
Ive always thought that half a horseshoe is an ox shoe. Is there a difference? I also find them occasionally. Thanks for the content!!
This was a horseshoe that was so worn at the front center that it broke in two. Ox shoes are a half shoe but look more like a pork chop. I've never found an ox shoe here in East TN. Appreciate you watching and glad you enjoyed this one Brandan.
Maybe the silver quarter was used to unscrew the brass cap?
You never know. Thanks very much for watching this one Dade! ATB Greg

Iit does look like it’s the top part of a key .
It does but the iron portion is what throws me off about it. Appreciate you watching this one Phillip!
Once again great video. I have a question though. When you were showing the chinese coin why was it stringed together with other coins?
Thanks Randy and that was how the coins were carried back then by the Chinese.
Maybe a small reins guide ?
It does resemble one. Appreciate the help with it Phil!
I have heard very recently that those Chinese coins were popular collectibles as good luck tokens in the late Victorian era.
That's very interesting. I had not heard that but it makes perfect sense to me. Appreciate the help with that Jim! Thanks so much for watching this one and glad you enjoyed it! ATB Greg
I live close by should detect some time together I got alot of farm fields old sight
I appreciate that my friend. ATB Greg
On my way to Chattanooga Saturday for family trip.have a few hours. Do I need a permit for city parks?
Sorry but I really do not know. I have never hunted down there.
Awesome hunt, Greg! Do you know of any programs to help a disabled vet to get an affordable detector?
Thanks Greg and I do not know of any. The Xterra Pro is a very affordable machine with great performance. You might want to look into one of those. ATB Greg
@@FindingAmerica I'll check them out. I appreciate it Greg!
Would that be a brass eye bolt from a horse and buggy?? Early teens to late 20’s??
It could be but I haven't been able to find a match out there yet. Appreciate the help with it Travis! ATB Greg
End cap off a large Buss fuse.
Thanks and I appreciate the help with that piece.
Looks like you missed a marble in your quarter hole
Thanks and I checked that. It's actually an acorn. If you watch until the 7.16 mark you'll see they were everywhere on the ground there! Thanks for the help and for watching. ATB Greg
@findingamerica, 19:45 the cash coin with wide rim I believe you found is made of bronze probably late 1700's.
Part of a fireplace tool.
Thanks and I appreciate the help with that.
Put it in the electrolysis tank Greg!!!!
I plan to! :)
AN OXEN. OR COW SHOE.
an old cowboy
Thanks for the help. This is half of a worn out horse shoe. Oxen shoes are very different in appearance.
