Bulstrode actually does talk to Cranky. You just need to do it when no other engines are around. There is a better chance that you will get certain characters to talk to each other when only the two characters are near each other.
I heard the talking cranky set said Rebecca's name it could mean one of two things A talking Rebecca was probably planned and canceled before development Or Rebecca might be AEG'S next returnees
This is why the talking aspect of the set should be on Bulstrode himself and not some random bridge we don’t even see in the show.🤦🏾 I was pretty disappointed when you said that Bulstrode won’t talk to Cranky.

Doesn't need to be massive, it can just be the Knapford piece, a train engine, a carriage and a loop of track. Maybe Sir Topham Hatt can dispatch the train engines on jobs like "Percy! You must go to Brendam Docks to pick up some cargo!" And blah blah blah Also, your complaint about Cranky and Bulstrode was totally valid. There's an advertisement of the set and it's apparently supposed to be used along side the Cranky set. I think why they didn't make them interact with one another is because they're quite big and somewhat loud, so they're gonna be blasting stuff at one another, I dunno I got super excited when i saw the photos because I immediately thought "thisll be a sweet jumping ramp for the Push Along's!!" Lift them over it to give the illusion they're jumping, but the bridge rises the other way so... not a sweet jumping... ramp... 🤣🤣🤣
I’m so glad that the bridge isn’t connected to anything, this makes it very easy to add to any layout. You can also add stop and go track on the ends of the lift part to make the set better
Not gonna lie, Percy falling into the water after you raised the bridge up got a good laugh out of me! But yeah, a Talking Percy would've been perfect for this set!
I guess Mattel wanted to squeeze more money out of the customers by not including a talking engine in this set. In most stores, this set would sit next to the talking engines, and the engines will interact with this set on the shelf. This will entice the customer to buy a talking engine in addition to purchasing this set, and Mattel will get more money.

Bulstrode wasn’t made to have a speaker inside of him to activate the talking button, due to his size. It would have been cool if that happened, but it’s a shame it didn’t.

The Which Way Bridge is nice and all, but its kind of appalling that being a destination with a prashe, instead of a interactive engine. I assume we'll get Salty as the next Interactive talking engine.

While I'm not the biggest fan of this set I have warmed up to it. Its a shame the bridge is the talking part not Bulstrode though
