    The Victorians would have undoubtably opted for a very shiny polished finish. The ability to polish metal to a near mirror finish was very much in vogue during the Victorian era.

      the consensus seem to be for shiny,and i think you're right ,when you look at the steam engines of the time there isn't a dull surface on them,many thanks

    My g-g-grandfather was a whitesmith which I believe was a metal polisher, for that reason I would say the Victorians would have gone for a bright polished finish.
