Yeah, except solar power sucks and doesn’t create enough electricity
Edit: Solar power literally doesn't generate enough money to pay for itself prior to the solar cells having to be replaced. You're better off investing the money instead of spending it on solar panels.

It would be cool to see technology like this but examples that use passive methods to change their configuration. As soon as you start getting electric motors and drive systems involved, there's just so much complexity, cost, and reliability issues that creep in. It seems like you could use the incidence angle of the sun to heat some element that would expand and contract, thus changing the structure without the need for any electricity. Use parabolic mirrors or lenses to focus sunlight so that they can operate independently of ambient temperature and it strictly becomes a function of light intensity.

Probably, had they designed buildings adapted for the they wouldn't need the "extra help", but being said, there's a difference using the word kinetic for a whole building or just for moving parts in the facade. In the last case vernacular Mediterranean architecture has shown us many lessons that can be applied in modern architecture. Just a couple of honourable mentions:
    - L'Institute du Monde Arabe, Paris.
    - pabellón Kuwait, Expo'92.
    - Media-Tic, Barcelona.
