He knows in a 3 game time period the more effectively you can store your strength and energy the less mistakes you'll make at the end. Lin dans movement helps him to use much less energy. He doesn't run when its unnecessary. And tries to avoid shots which will drain much energy. As a result he came out victorious in most of the matches.

Very minute technicality but that's all there is.. hear me out.. Lee Chong Wei's deceptive net cross is the cause of him struggling in rallies. Whenever he plays that stroke, Lin Dan simple pushes the shuttle to his forehead. Lee gets on recovery mode and that's giving away the control. Lin Dan has used this for so long. I don't know why Lee plays that stroke. It's not deceptive anymore
LCW trains a lot. A lot more than many professional players. For him, many shots are more reactions than calculated because speed is the name of his game. For that, his shots more often are repetitive and when they were done to trick his opponents but does no damage. It is not just his net cross... his backhand clear... his fake cross court lift, all was done so many times the Chinese camp were armed to the teeth to counter them. I'm an amateur, but even I think that a deceptive shot is supposed to be dynamic, meaning it should be based on opponent's position, tendency and balance at the time. Every time I saw his robotic deception shots I can only cringe and sigh.

LCW played 7 world/Olympic finals and lost all 7. That is not luck, it is just that LCW didn't have the mental strength to handle the biggest games.
