I took my daughter to her first movie at the Metro. It was the Flintstones.

I remember going there a lot from 1997-2000. It was a still a pretty cool mall around that time.

All man, the memories. Before they tore down the movie theater there, Life with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence in 1998. This was the place to be in the early 1990's.

I was 12-13 years old when this mall opened. Before that, there was only the Jackson Mall. My parents would drive me and my friends there from Brandon and drop us off for the day. Was a magical place, in the beginning, with candle shops, Spencers, record stores and video arcade. I moved away from MS when I was 15, so I never saw it again. I heard of the bad decline and found your video. Thank you so much for pointing out where the theater was, the Mcrae's name, which I had forgotten. Wow...such a flashback. Appreciate the tour. Btw, I really miss the Burger Chef that used to be next to Krystal.

Anyone with an ounce of sense, didn’t believe that mall was going to be opened for retail. 👎🏾

This is probably a dumb question but is the Burlington Coat Factory still open?

Last time I went into the MetroCenter majority of the stores was closed and a guy(security?) and a lady stopped me and told me the plans. they said it would be a renovation inside and make Luxury apartments and other high end stores. do I think she was lying to me? absolutely.but hey, this is just another eyesore of Jackson that the City Council can't seem to get rented or sold. When the people of Jackson finally realize the City Council is the problem(in-fighting), it may be too late and Madison will apply to the State Government to make Madison the Capital City. The mayor of Madison has always wanted Madison to be the Capital of Mississippi since she took office 1981 (a whopping 42 years in office!! WOW!). The corruption in Jackson City Council is beyond repair.

I remember when this mall first opened. We drove from Clinton to see the new mall and wow, was it a sight to behold. And Widow Watson's was the #1 place to eat. Such a pity to see it now.

That was a great run around metro 🙂 Talkin bout McDonald's, the cashier doesn't hoard the sauce. The manager does. It does come out of their check. They get food cost bonuses and employees can be written up for not following strict guidelines. It's not the cashier's fault. They need their jobs.

You're thinking of the old K&B Drug Store. It had a front entrance as well as an inside entrance. Man, this was MY mall in the 80s and 90s, it breaks my heart to see it now, like watching an old friend slowly die.

When the mall was sold earlier this year, did she purchase the Sears and Dillard's buildings too or just the inside section of the mall?

I read she only bought the interior of the mall, not the anchor stores. At least that's what I read. Who knows what's going on with this place in reality. She was talking all kind of crazy stuff a few months ago about farris wheels and roller coasters. She'll be lucky to have a California Nails salone up in that place.

SOOOO sad. This was a great mall back in the day. I remember first going to Metrocenter when it first open in 1978. Dad took us on a Sunday afternoon. Of course non of the stores were open, because of the BLUE LAWS ( remember them?) but the interior was open, so we walked around. It was amazing to me as a 12 year old.

I take it South and West Jackson are really bad parts of the city. North and East Jackson are the best parts of the city.

The only thing I don’t understand is why anybody cares about this shit. Metro center was nice when it opened in 78. I’ve been gone from Jackson for 29 years. I watch this shit because I think it’s funny as crap.
