  • Item title reads - "The Fleet of England is her All-in-All" (Tennyson). Great grey ships of war of Atlantic Fleet make awe-inspiring spectacle of sea power as they leave for spring cruise. Off Portland, Dorset.
    L/S of the warships in the harbour, the camera pans across them and the docks. Various shots from different angles including on deck showing the guns and torpedoes. Various shots as they sail along past the camera with crew onboard.
    Intertitle - '"but they can't beat the boys of the bulldog breed that made old England's name."'

    In the opening wide view, there are both Nelson class battleships present plus at least 2 Iron Dukes in the distance. At 50secs a D class cruiser is seen sailing out. Both Iron Dukes are shown underway. The Iron Duke battleship shown in splendid close up sailing by from 1.50 is probably the Benbow (Its nameplate on the quarterdeck superstructure is indistinct but seems to say Benbow).

    HMS Renown both Nelson class there amongst others. An Impressive sight to say the least.

      One could argue that the us navy was close, if not ahead. Both relied heavily on WW1 vintage, since the treaty limitations.

    Why they wrote England everywhere instead of Britain ? 🇬🇧

      Because 80 years ago England was also the same as saying Britain. Many Americans still say that to this day.
