Ben UFO - Record Shopping

- With his mix CD for Fabric out last week, Hessle Audio co-founder Ben UFO took FACT record shopping.
Of course, Ben isn't just any DJ, so he didn't just take us to any shop. Instead, he took us to a lock-up used as storage by a record trader - name withheld, but this his Discogs page - that he regularly deals with. FACT's Angus Finlayson wasted an afternoon listening to records by Plastician (back when he was called Plasticman), Moving Shadow, DJ Hell, DVA and more.
Filmed by Kamil Dymek, Pawel Ptak & Anoushka Seigler
Interviewed by Angus Finlayson

this guy is just pure music... it's obviously his life.
is this guy famous now or smt? i remember like around ten years ago i spoke to someone with the name ben ufo on AIM messenger a lot when i was trying to learn how to make dnb/music in general ; P (from dogsonacid forums or smt)
Microphunktv Yh, one of the most respected dj’s
@@Microphunktv-jb3kjlol that is wild if true
@@augustusaquaticus4289 well back in the day people werent as egotistical either.. people shared their handles of messenger via that DOA forum etc... i had many famous artists on the list, wich i actually thought were just fans and using that name... like docscott31 etc... i later in some recent documentary about dnb saw some clip and was like, oh shit, that was real doc scott.. also i remember i had calyx and teebee on my list, some other names as well.. who were more underated,,, and have overtime become better producers and slightly more known.. like those Krone and Malsum.. and some few others...
i still talk sometimes to sunchase and lynx via fb... but im not dnb artist myself nor i have actually even listened to dnb mostly since like ~2007 era..
just music taste has changed, but i sometimes fool around with dnb demos, make something in an hour.. and leave it to collect dust.. ;] since im not that interested in being "artist" or smt.. i make stuff for myself... too much effort and energy to put out actually music... people dont appreciate music these days anymore anyways how they used to ... also the entry gap is insane, 5500€ for 500 12" pressing, yeah.. i can use that money in better ways... but everyti ei see some dnb content on yt accidentally, i g et some urge again that "maybe i should take music a bit more seriosuly and try to make some ep" or smt...
i dont know how modern dnb sounds tbh haha.. my stuff sounds like older stuff...

^ would this be good enough dnb to get signed somewhere, its not finished track atm... but feel like it's possibly good enough , ; )
i am cosy and tucked in my bed listening to this like its asmr gold. Ben UFO

I could listen to Ben talk about records all day. A truely unique and passionate selector.
I chatted to him after one his sets in Dublin last year, I can confirm he is an absolute gentleman :)
the soft voice of the enthusiast
He might just be the sweetest man alive.
certified bad man always a pleasure to catch a Dj set
Ben seems like an extremely down to earth guy. Really good vibes coming off this one...
Ahhhh what a gold mine for records wish I could see that many techno/minimal records all at once.
i respect him so much for doing what he does.
He's such a cool guy, so likeable.
The first jungle vinyl I ever bought was on no u turn ! Spent about 30 years collecting the labels discography and I’m at about 75% !! I listen to quite similar stuff to Ben ! I love everything from Detroit techno ‘ jungle ‘ drum n bass ‘ grime ‘ uk hip hop ‘ classic era dub step ‘ breakcore !!!! Interesting selection and an enjoyable video !!!
Immediately recognized 2:46 from being sampled on Zomby’s track “Labyrinth”. Great tune. Gotta track this one down now.

Nice to see young generation of DJs, who are into VINYL stuff!
I am little bit tired of all "cool girlie-teenager pseudo DJs", who are using USB sticks and laptops, pushing "dead buttons", controlling not working regulators", and imitating something ...
Real DJ is using always VINYL! Thumbs UP for BEN UFO!
P.S.: Maybe I would do something for the fashion ... nobody is expecting Armani or Hugo Boss, but wearing two t-shirts with different colours at once, and some delivery man`s "zip jacket" from "overstock shop" .... this is heroism!!!!!!
shaky and shitty pull focus. check.
that's DSLR for video for you
life must be hard being so unhappy about small shit like this
nope as in Plastikman otherwise known as Richie Hawtin
ID at 5:23?
