I love the slow burn of these videos. Most people won’t watch a video of this length but that is their loss. I’m so drawn to the evolution of these walks. You don’t just give us amazing scenes but you give us the experience and through these videos I can live vicariously through them. Everyone should try wild camping like this, to get out of our comfort zone and spend a few days away from technology and learn to appreciate the simpler, more profound, things around us. This was a real joy, Mark, and one day I’d love to take a walk with you.

Hi Andrew, thank you so much. Yes, I like to reach deeper into where I am. If I express anything it's full respect to the place in which I am immersed. I agree let go of the phones - I never take one with me and dig ye earth with a camp or two. Glad it was a joy. A walk with you would be a great joy to. Mark

That was a beautiful place to camp up for the night and to wake up to such green views, near to water!
Great hike, always amazes me when we discover old museum piece vehicles, just left to rust! Loved that golden bike mounted on the cottage!
Ah a bit of the welsh language, I can speak a bit of welsh too having lived in Wales for about 4 years in my childhood! I can still say "There's a bucket in the cowshed" but I couldn't type it! The things you remember!

What a lovely village! And set in an enchanting landscape too! Fabulous underwater images, and loved the salmon footage as well. Sweet, brave little robin. We love the Welsh villages Cynthia. This one has a busy road though but is nice. Est in AD 600 by St Curig apparently. Yes, there was a lot of beauty in this stretch from the robins, otters through to the worn out paths, which are likely centuries old routes over the high hills. I was pleased to get Paul in again. Thanks my dear friend. Hope the move is going well. Mark

There was definitely pride in that cottage as you say. Someone used that as a place to live and raise families, to relax, and sleep, and dream, and perhaps die. It's sad in a way when you explore old places like this. You can almost see the ghost of those before enjoying the place and it being full of life and happiness. Now locked up and quiet with decay and the passage of time evident in everything. It would be very interesting to research old cottages like that to find when they were made, who lived there, what they did for a living, etc. Great video guys.

    • @WyeExplorer
      @WyeExplorer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey dude, yeah I agree the cottage was full of spirit. I've come across a few in the hills here one with an amazing dusty piano in it - here's a link to it/I've time stamped it th-cam.com/video/rFOgOJxgiRI/w-d-xo.html as I stand I do see the ghosts of the past and feel them. I'm sure you've come across a few in the everglades. Research would be difficult unless I canvassed the locals, which I may do one time. Thanks for the great comment. Take care over there friend. I've saved my time so I could spend an hour and half in your company on the Wye. It was worth my while waiting to do that. In all my years I have never seen 2 otters in the UK playing like that, one yes, two never. Sandy had two come to meet him on a camp on Dartmoor but I missed it sadly. That's was one heck of a vista to wake up to Mark and I like the grab hold of a tree system....higher, lower lol. Sphagnum moss one of nature's luxuries and free at the point of collection and use 😊. What a character Polly is and the lovely little Robin was a sign.... I'm here 😊 Humbling Mark to know that the wonderful and magical Wye starts as but a trickle and meanders down to us in Hereford and onward. I really enjoyed the knot masterclass 😁👍. Rhayader is a busy place and chimney is marvellous and to see the two otters is unforgettable Mark. Another wonderful watch and listen from start to finish. As always Mark, your knowledge, enthusiasm and love for what you do comes shining through just like the light that danced off those glorious hills as you described. The spirits said hello, welcome. Thank you Paul for the really kind words. Yeah a great early morning and a luxury loo. Polly was inspirational as was the Robin. What do they say, 'when a robin appears a loved is near.' Ha, that tune I heard on a building site near the finish. It's funny where influences come from. Well, I hope you're alright mate. I actually think of you as I look out back. All the best. Mark

Feeling pretty overwhelmed right now Mark. The Robin and Paul. The otters. Polly. The camp spots - loved that lunch spot by the old tractor. The cottage - was it Joan? It was certainly benevolent - one of the best meeting I've had right there. Grief, good dreams, tai chi at the confluence - flowing energies merging with earth and sky. Some good climbs, the valleys. It felt ancestral watching it back for a second time Mark, cant explain the feeling really so ill leave it there. Thanks Bro doesnt cover it. Love to you and Paul on this day

'Bobbing' (local term in my neck the woods) like a Viking 😎. I once learned at the Jorvik Museum, in York, that the Vikings also used sphagnum moss for that purpose. Did I hear a tawny owl too about 27 : 24? Some lovely wooded wild-camp locations there Mark, especially the second by the deciduous trees. And the underwater footage was spectacular. I know Gilfach, having visited with my dad a few years back. We called in whilst taking the scenic route home from the Blorenge. What a treat with the otters too. Yes, a wealth of interest in that one and am looking forward to the next instalment. Hope you're well pal, ATB, Chris

I hope you don't mind, I had to stop at the hilltop cottage and do a gel pen sketch in a sketchbook. I love places like that and am glad you do too. Thank you, Mark!

You take us to the best places Mark, even poo with a view 🙂
Such a shame seeing all that old machinery just lying there mate.
gorgeous little village, Rheadr is that where the waterfall is?
    Nice to meet friendly walkers.
    Good memories with Paul mate.
That farm with the sunflowers, great mountains behind.
I remember you camping there before, you showed us the stars.
    Awesome underwater footage mate.
    It looks so surreal.
    That salmon!
    Bless Polly what an inspiration.
How wonderful to see that robin
    Fancy blowing up a waterfall!
Otters wow! I never seen them in the wild, we canoed a section of the Wye many years ago and saw their tracks but never actually saw any otters.
Such a shame to see that abandoned cottage.
    I would live there.
You know the druids considered the oak sacred Mark
A great video mate I really enjoyed it,
    all the best
    Steve

Hey steve, a huge thanks for such a great comment. Yeah this kind of had it all - this stretch kept on giving. Nature, old homes (which we would love), sacred oaks and Polly who was indeed inspirational. Hey you know the Wye then - that's great. We could have missed the, otters if we looked another way but we never. As for the falls yeah they blew them up back i the day when things like that didn't matter. Well, I wish you a peaceful evening mate. All the best. Mark

@@WyeExplorer Cheers Mark, I'm sure there's some other falls not far from Hereford, around the Elan valley, called rheadre we swam in the pool shaped bit at the top, and then looked over the sheer drop... It was years ago so I might have the place all wrong lol
      Enjoy your weekend mate.

Morning is my favourite time of the day everything is new and almost everything is possible. That was a long but beautiful walk, again meeting interesting happy people. Beneath the surface was a magical kingdom beautiful addition to the film Mark. Meeting Polly...quite right you can choose not to think or to think...my only focus and thoughts apart from the beauty is getting to my destination setting up camp and eating LOL .What a fantastic view from the cottage Oh how I would love to peek inside lovely! Both films were a real pleasure to watch all the best Ana P.S I will watch the next part later😀

I am totally with you there Ana. Morning and it's freshness especially in the mountains is a dream. Love it. There is magic all over as we hike isn't there? I love your analogy of just getting to the place wherever that is. We strip it down to basics. Polly was an inspiration and a joy to meet. AS for the cottage it has a presence and yeah an awesome view. Do not worry about watching. I'm giving people time and the option of watching however they like. It's just good to hear from you. Take care Ana and have a great new year. Mark
