RC is spot on. As he often is. His indepth study and knowledge of the Word of God is such a blessing. Some do not like the truth of what he reveals. It's understandable. Love the revelation of his teaching. He doesn't sugar coat anything. We need to see God's word for what it is. "The gate is narrow"

Sproul said on another video that most ppl are going to hell. So not true of what God wants. God wants ALL to reconciled to himself. John 3:16 is for the Jews and that Christ coming is to bring them into the kingdom in Jerusalem where he sits on the throne of David as King of Kings. He will at that time blot out their sins and give them eternal life. Now as far as the world goes, Jesus told them that they were to be a light to the world and bring the Gentiles to the light and salvation. Gen.12
[2] And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
[3] And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Blessed as in SAVED. 2Pet.3
[9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.(Jews in the future but it will be their mission to bring all to Christ, the King)

I'm sure he did talk about it, but this video edited out that most important part. John 3:16 is so misunderstood that people overlook the part about "whosoever believes" and just see that "God so loved the world", therefore they think they're going to heaven when they die. Sadly, the gospel preached for so long now, especially in recent years, is so watered down that no one preaches we are all sinners in need of a Saviour and repentance is required for salvation (Luke 5:32 & 2 Pet 3:9). Anyone can believe things ABOUT Jesus and SOOO many people say they believe in God, but even the demons believe and tremble (Jas 2:19). Having a personal relationship with Jesus is the only way.

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

In John 3:16, Jesus was referring to the event in Numbers where God told Moses to set up a snake/serpent on a pole, so that any of the children of Israel who had been bitten and were dying could look at it and be saved. It’s important to read and understand that story first, otherwise preachers can read into John 3:16 their own ideas or assumptions. And I understand the emphasis is “For in this way did God love the world…” rather than “so” meaning ‘so much’. Context is key, as the saying goes. Always read the verses either side, the whole section and the OT passage(s) referred to. God could easily have removed the snakes, or just made the children of Israel immune to the bites; they had asked God to do something to save them. Instead, God told Moses to set up a snake on a pole and lift it up high, so that anyone could look at it and so (in this way) be saved. It’s interesting that Jesus chose this ‘minor’ incident out of the whole OT to illustrate what He had come to do.

May i mention a complete different take on John 3:16 . Never could anyone NOT become part of God's kingdom as confirmed in Isaiah 56 : 6-8 . Was there any people at that time that was prohibeted from joining the Kingdom ? When reading Jer 3: 8 we see the House of Israel ( 10 tribes ) was divorced by God , and in Hosea 5:3-4 declared defiled - not being able to return to God or His kingdom ever . In Matt 15 : 24 Christ says He was only sent for these lost sheep of the House of Israel . Why ?
Because in His death the divorce decree was annulled making it possible for them to come back again . Hosea 1:10 . Paul also explains this clearly in Ephesians 2 :12-13 . This is never taught in mainstream religion and i find it difficult to understand why ?? Shalom and God bless

One of the key words to understanding John 3:16 is the small word "so". In John 3:16 the Greek word translated "so" is houtōs which is also translated "thus" or "in this manner". Try reading John 3:16 with either of these translations and you will see that the emphasis is not on "man" but on God.

If you love God and Jesus Christ, keep His commandments, many verses support this. Belief is deep. Follow Christ"s footsteps. If He kept the Sabbath, keep it also, if He did not keep the pagan holidays that most Christians keep today, we have to refrain, stop in keeping them. If Christ kept God's Holidays specified in Lev. 23, we should keep them. The early apostles kept them. No reasoning around it. God's Holidays including the Sabbaths, His statutes (Psalms 119) are His, not the Jews only. Many scholars reason around that they are done away, etc. Not so.

Jesus never said he saved everybody, he did pay for the sins of the whole world, but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, to them that believe on his name. Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. And he is the satisfactory payment for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He died for everyone, but it is by grace through faith.

The text doesn't actually mention "salvation," or "heaven" to which the one who believes is supposed to be delivered, or "hell" from which the believer is supposed to be saved. Sproul was exactly correct when he said that this is one of the most misunderstood verses/texts in the whole Bible. What is well known preacher/teacher is telling you is what his theology says must be true. So much more could be said. But if a person is not willing to look back at the text and be honest with it, saying more would not be helpful.

RC is so wrong. No one draws universalism from this because God apape loves all of humanity. What John 3:16 and 17 proves is John Calvin and Calvinism is dead wrong. God self sacrificially (agape) loves all of humanity, that God sent His Son to and for all of humanity. That whosoever, that if anyone chooses to believe they can be saved. Whosoever and the world still have to choose to believe.
Some would say not everyone has the ability to choose to believe and I would agree verse 16 does not include ability, however the next verse does. 3:17 states God did not come to reprobate nor condemn anyone, Jesus came for the purpose that Kosmos, all of sinful humanity, Sozo subjunctive mood, might be saved, the subjunctive mood and definitions of might and may include and mean ability possibility and potentiality.
These two verses refute all of John Calvins doctrines, and RCs as well.

There is no Gospel so clearly predestinarian and particularistic as the 4th Gospel - quite brazen-faced that liberals and universalists could dare attempt to pervert what is on the surface of a knowledgeable reading of the text. There only is one Savior for one chosen people whom the Father gave to the Son before the world began - that people is drawn by grace from the whole world and not just the Jewish people. The point is both the bigness and the badness of the worldwide scope of the plan, but it is highly particularistic. Arminianism is incorrect and in error - the sad thing is that such brothers in sincerity will accuse men like Sproul of teaching a false Gospel. That any should be saved at all is an amazing divine gracious condescension. And yes - no other Savior. No Gospel! No hope! Why God so favored some with faithful preaching and not others is a mystery known only to Himself. But He will get eternal glory for it from men and angels.

RC Sproul is correct. Even though he makes the same mistake like everyone else, by taking John 3:16 out of context.
It is not wise to preach on one verse and forsake other verses before it and after it. It is always good exegesis to keep it in context with surrounding verses.
We should read from verse 13 to verse 20 to understand the meaning of John 3:16.
In verse 18 we read " He who believes in Him is NOT condemned, but he who DOES NOT believe is condemned already, because he has NOT BELIEVED in the NAME of the only begotten Son of God."
Therefore it is clear that John 3:16 is NOT talking about all people being saved.
RC Sproul is NOT a heretic. Universalists ARE heretics.

Jesus was not created, He is eternal from everlasting to everlasting. The word 'beginning' does not mean the beginning of time but rather refers to something beyond my and your imagination, eternity and can only expressed in some word like 'beginning' that really does not and cannot convey the eternal.
