Wow!!! i'm very impressed with the success of the balanced wagon train dipole antenna. The WSPR test proves that it works. Thanks for confirming that techniques that were popular in the early days of radio are still valid.
Thanks Leon.. and for the suggestion to use the balanced line in a DiPole configuration.. You're antenna expertise is amazing.. Thanks for all your support.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
You my friend are a mad scientist! The only thing more impressive than you making the wagon dipole, is you dragging the one wagon into position using brute Kevin strength.
Hahaha Bob.. Well, YOU were one of the "mad hams" that suggested the wagon dipole, LOL.. We not only have "sad" hams in the hobby.. now we got "mad" hams, LOL.. Welcome to the "mad" club, LOL... I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your support.. Thanks for watching.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
haha Jonathon.. A big Rotor indeed !!.. probably wouldn't last too long on a mast in these Iowa winds, LOL... Thanks for stopping by and watching.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hello Carson... Thank you for your comment.. It was fun to use the balanced ladder line in this experiment.. I was surprised with the results and had a lot of fun.. Thank you for stopping by and supporting the channel.. I appreciate it very much... 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Thanks for visiting from the UK.. haha, its a portable dipole that doesn't require any trees or poles to support it, LOL.. I appreciate your comment and support.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
LOL.. Glad you enjoyed the video music.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. Hope to hear you on the QRP net again soon ! !.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hey Don.. Thanks for stopping by and watching.. Glad you enjoyed the video.. I appreciate all your support for the channel.. Right on.. ham radio is my therapy too... 73 bud.. Kevin ~ k0klb
Excellent job Kevin, you just made my Friday! For a minute I thought that you were going to have a Hello Kittytenna. I was going to suggest a wagon train Yagi as well, but someone beat me to it ha ha ha. I wonder if a wagon full of corn radiates better than an empty wagon. Take care and keep up the great work!
Hello William.. Thanks for stopping by.. Too many hello Kitty's in the barn, LOL.. I didn't get a chance to test a fully loaded wagon before we put them in the shed.. Maybe next time.. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hi Mike.. Thanks for watching.. I like big knobs and little switches and this matching unit fits the bill.. It does a really good job.. there are a few occasions where I couldn't get the red LED light to disappear, but I can get it dim which has been good enough.. Its' compact and light weight.. Thanks for your support !!.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hahaha Brian.. I didn't notice that.. too funny you would notice that, LOL.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
VERY cool! I have had some luck with my FT-818 and an MFJ EFHW 40-10 antenna. 👍 No tuner needed with the efhw. 40m is my favorite band. 73 de w8nsi Jim
Hi James.. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I know a couple guys who have been happy with the MFJ antennas as well.. I'll have to try one some day.. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Whenever I think the world is going crazy one of your videos pops up to remind me that there are some normal people out there enjoying life and having fun ! Please explain the Whisper thing ? 73 M7BLC
Hi John.. Thanks for stopping by and watching.. WSPR (Weak Signal Propagation Report).. www.wsprnet.org is the website.. I can now send the data signal over the air via my iPhone (WSPR Watch app) by pressing the radio PTT and holding the phone next to the radio mic.. Then look up the results of the stations that heard me in the app.. It's a great asset for test's like these to see my radiation pattern and propagation.. Thanks for your support !!.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hahahaha Mike.. We'z be gittin hard up for antenna's rond he'yar ... LOL... We'll take anything that is metal, LOL.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I appreciate your support.. Thanks for all your hard work making all your videos.. I love mailbag mondays ! !.. Keep up the great work !!.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hello Jimm.. Thanks for stopping by.. The app on my iPhone is called "WSPR Watch".. You can download it and set it up to transmit your callsign out the phone speaker.. I tuned to the 20m WSPR frequency 14.095.60 on my radio on USB.. enable transmit and wait for the cycle countdown to complete.. once there is one second remaining, hit the PTT on the radio and hold the phone up to the mic.. it will transmit the WSPR data out to all stations via your phone and radio mic.. I transmit for 40 to 50 seconds, then select "map" on the app and wait for the results.. it may take up to a couple minutes to show the data so just refresh for a few minutes.. I just found out about it last week and its really a great tool for portable ops.. Hope this helps.. Thx for watching.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hahahah Darrell.. judging by the un-subscription count, There are a few that must think I'm nuts and probably a threat to ham radio, LOL.. Oh well, no worries... I'm still having fun, LOL.. Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel with your comment.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hello Thor... Who knew, right?... Now you know and can put it in your back pocket for an emergency, LOL... Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.. I appreciate it !! 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
That is cool! Now two grain augers connected at the top with ladder line inverted V configuration. On a calm warm day of course. Just kidding...too much work. OCF Dipole if different lengths?
Hey Kevin.. I actually was planning on doing the two (81ft) augers together like that when I did that video a few years ago.. th-cam.com/video/tDBnUQTtCvc/w-d-xo.html ... but like you said after thinking more about it, it was too much work.. However I do have a short 31ft auger that my brother left here so I could test it out.. It's the QRP model grain auger and I can hand crank it to a 45 degree angle.. I'll be doing a video on that before it gets too cold.. Thanks for stopping by and watching.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
haha John.. That would be a-maize'ing wouldn't it, LOL... It would make a nice snack while playing ham radio, LOL.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hey Dale ! !.. haha.. probably aint been greased in a few decades, LOL.. but they are always stored inside, if that helps, LOL.. Thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hi Kevin, what app on your phone did you use for theWISPR?? Also, it would be interesting to hook up a Network analyzer to the wagon dipole and see what type of impedance they present on different frequency bands.
Hello Michael.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. The iPhone app is called "WSPR Watch".. I'll have a demonstration of how I use WSPR in my next video coming out on Friday this week.. I agree it would be nice to do a lot more analysis of these different projects, but I usually run out of time and can't get it all done.. Maybe next time we will dive in a little deeper.. Thanks for your support.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
CHALLENGE: Can you shunt feed a grain elevator? That would be awesome. Also, an auger would make an interesting antenna... All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL
Hi Bill.. Thanks for watching.. Thanks for the suggestions.. I actually did a grain auger (81ft long) video a few years ago.. th-cam.com/video/tDBnUQTtCvc/w-d-xo.html It worked pretty well.. But hold my beer.. I'll be doing another auger video in the very near future on one that's only 31ft long.. It's the QRP SOTA/POTA model, LOL... Grain elevator legs would be a great experiment too.. I'll have to look around the hood and see who still has one.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I appreciate your support.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Hahaha.. Wow, that's really thinking outside the box ! !.. What an imagination !!.. Very interesting and I like it.. Unfortunately, We only have the 2 wagons and they are now full of corn and parked inside the shed.. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. I appreciate your support.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
Awesome job, Kevin. I've never used a manual tuner before. Is that thing pretty easy to use? This makes me want to try some random things for antennas lol. K3KLB
Thanks Kody.. It is very easy to use.. so far it's worked pretty well on random items.. there are times when I cannot get the red LED to go out.. (when the light is gone, its matched) but I've got it dim enough to still operate.. It's light weight and pretty small.. I really like it in the portable ops... Thanks for stopping by and watching.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb

FOTA! (Farms on the Air) I love it… A farmer, can make anything work…
You are our therapy. That would take a rather large rotor and tower.
haha Jonathon.. A big Rotor indeed !!.. probably wouldn't last too long on a mast in these Iowa winds, LOL... Thanks for stopping by and watching.. I appreciate it.. 73, Kevin ~ k0klb
The ladder line hookup right to the wagons is great. Unless that ladder line is radiating it's all wagon!
