This has to be the most "Trilogy" song on this album. The mix of druggy, reverberating vocals, ripping synths and deep basses creates this grand, operatic wall of sound searing with pain and melancholy. Exactly the vibe of his greatest hits.
The synth/sound at the start reminds me of The Fall. Real sad boy hours rn🔥🔥

This album is a lot like when you have just broken up with someone. The start of the album describes how you feel lost and alone, no matter how hard you try you can’t stop thinking about the person. The middle of the album is the feeling you get when you go out with your friends following a break up. You’re wild and reckless. Doing anything you can to numb the pain and distract yourself. The final third of the album is the after party feeling. As your drunk or high begins to wear off, you have this sinking feeling of being alone. Soon you feel overcome with grief and would give anything to feel the way you did just a few hours before the party. The pain and sorrow is displayed is so many indirect ways on this album. It's actually an album about Abel trying to reconcile his old habits and relationship ills and trying to grow out of them. But it seems kinda like a cycle.

I don’t think this album has anything to do with Selena or Bella I think this album is about his struggle with the darkness that constantly overshadows his life. His acceptance of fame and how it’s opened his eyes to how this world truly works, his past and current use of drugs he’s reached a point where he’s finally realized, Not fame, not drugs, not women or money can ever truly satisfy his soul. This album is about an internal battle between the good and evil n his life

This song is truly sad. He wants his ex back (the one he talks about in "After Hours song"). But he realizes he'll never get her back. Usually, he supplements this loss with getting high, but this time he's sick of it (drugs aren't working anymore). Now he's come into terms with reality, he has nothing else to live for. So he cut his self. Now he's bleeding out.... and probably to death.
I know I'm probably overanalyzing, but this makes the song hit harder.

What a beautifully well crafted ending to such a good album. The Weeknd did it again, but this time back and better. He's one of those artists where if he changes, no one's saying they miss the old him; because everything he comes out with is so different and game changing. Another classic record in his already perfect discography, Abel- you're a legend man.

It explains the album cover..it's about hurting..about being numb to the pain..realising you need someone that is never coming back..it's about pain and acceptance .. sometimes the pain is so bad that you need to clean yourself or bleed it out..through drugs ..harmful behaviour or hope..heartbreak is an addiction..I think he's being hurt for so long that he knows nothing else and he hates that he the girl or life he wants is not going to hapoen.. it's self reflecting but not changing yourself because the pain will always be there..he's bleeding

This song is definitely about someone he thought he would be with forever, thats why he wants to cut her out of his dreams both in his sleep and in his thoughts of what his future would be with her. The pain is so deep its causing him to actually come to terms with feelings he has been running away from using Drugs, partying, and girls. "I don't need it anymore" referring to these things. He dies in a metaphorical sense where he is forced to transform and its a really cool way to introduce new material.

This song is starting to become my favorite track on the album
As a coping mechanism, getting high isn't working anymore! It makes him paranoid. He wants to come down from the 'high' and he wants to feel the ground when he is coming down. Grounding is a coping mechanism when you're anxious etc. Feeling the ground would bring safety and an end to the anxiety. "I wanna feel the ground when I'm coming down" he is also saying he wants to jump and feel the impact meaning he is suicidal. Drugs are no longer working as a distraction, depression and suicide are now where his thoughts lie. Self harming is his new way of dealing with the pain. Hence why he is bleeding out. Gorgeous music!!!

It's a never ending cycle, You always feel like this when you've been on a drug binge for weeks or months. Then you either take more drugs and become careless again. Or you sober up but end up relapsing. It's a living nightmare.

It's clear that he came to the realization that he needs to quit and sober up. I realized that myself 4 years ago, and I'm still struggling to quit. 8 years of abuse, 4 years of trying to quit.
Ofc he's still gonna be doing drugs, probaly for years to come. We have no idea how long Abel himself knew he had a problem, atleast it's clear that he's over the denial phase now.

Cool thing i’ve discovered, when this song ends, if you play the title track After Hours right after, it flows right into each other with the sounds. It also then opens with “thought i almost died in my dream again” like he just woke up from this song being a dream. In this he talks about “feeling the ground” and “cutting you out my dreams till i’m bleeding out” which makes it seem like he is almost dying in these dreams, the video clearly seems like a dream or nightmare too. This craziest part about all of this is that if you do play After Hours after this, it means the project never ends, and it will just loop into a cycle constantly with After hours, and this song, so it just plays back and fourth like hes going to sleep, then having this dream, waking up. His day is the same pain and memories, and it never ends.
