  • Free Western Classic: Bonanza - Episode 157 - The Pure Truth - When Hoss is set up to take the fall for a bank robbery in another town, the help of an eccentric gold prospector appears to be all that stands between him and the real bandit's bullet.
    The Pure Truth
    Director: Don McDougall
    Writer: Lois Hire
    Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
    Release Date: 8 March 1964 USA
    Filming Locations: Stage 17, Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
    Storyline:
    Suffering from a advanced case of "spring fever," Hoss Cartwright is nonetheless assigned to pick up a prisoner in the town of Rimrock. Alas, Hoss arrives in the wrong town, where he ends up being jailed as a bank robber. Escaping, he finds shelter in the shack of local recluse Loulabelle (Glenda Farrell), better known around these parts as "Looney" (and not without good reason!) Written on IMDb.com
    Reviews:
    "The spotlight turns on Dan Blocker in this funny episode of Bonanza in which Hoss gets his annual attack of spring fever which makes him dangerous to be around.
    When he accidentally breaks sheriff Ray Teal's gun hand just as Teal is about to go to Rim Rock in Utah to pick up a prisoner, Hoss goes in his place, but manages to buy a ticket to the wrong place, Red Rock to be precise.
    The second he's there the bank gets robbed and the finger points to him as the only stranger in town. A lynch party is called for and Red Rock's hapless sheriff Stanley Adams can't stop it. But Hoss gets away and winds up in the camp of an old hermit woman played by Glenda Farrell. Between the two of them they find out what the real story is.
    Despite Hoss Cartwright nearly being lynched this was a very funny Bonanza episode. Dan Blocker and Glenda Farrell worked very well together and are given good support by a familiar group of character actors." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

    I absolutely love Loonie and how she breaks almost every expectation for a woman at the time. Her appearance, her complete disregard for authority, her agency, and the fact that she does whatever she wants without care. She is my most favorite one time appearance on the show.

      There's a story about a guy who was drafted. He was on a flight before he shipped out. His seatmate was Dan Blocker. Dan asked if he wanted a beer. The kid turned him down because he wasn't old enough, Dan said, "I didn't ask if you could have a beer, I asked if you wanted one" so the kid drank it. Dan talked about his experiences in Korea and told the kid to look him up when he got back home.
      The kid did get back home and was devastated when the news broke that day...

      I always found the character of Adam to always have an annoyingly arrogant and smug attitude especially in serious situations involving his brothers. In this case, he's getting his jollies from Hoss's situation with his Spring Fever. While humorous it is in a way, Adam getting happy about it can sometimes question if he'll ever learn that his "unique" attitude will always bite him in the ass and has too.

      Sulphur and molasses technically is not a tonic. Nor would it cause that state of mind. This was right after Nixon started the war on drugs. In all probability from time period the " tonic" would be an alcahol based opium and hashhiesh concoction

      Funny what a tv show can get away with, but if this was a story in a book the details would have to be expounded on.
      I think the tv writers don't expect the audience to notice the details. They obviously are wrong.

    • @cacatr4495
      @cacatr4495 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likewise, in Adam's "Bonanza" adventures away from the family, where did the cook-pots, coffee pot, plates and implements come from every time Adam made camp each night? All Adam left the Ponderosa with was a bedroll, carried nothing else but a saddle-bag that wasn't big enough to even carry food, yet each night at camp, there was food and cookware which can be seen left behind the next morning.
      They figured the viewing audience wouldn't notice, which largely was the case.

    • @MrSreeramIII
      @MrSreeramIII 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      😂😂😂 I was wondering about Adam and his unpacked forgotten coffee pots and how he got his coffee at his next camp too!! Wondered if the west just left tin coffee pots all around camp fires for the next user to boil coffee in!! In fact they might have left some wood all chopped up neatly..... to avoid Loading the horses too!! Like keeping toilets clean for the next person's use!! Polite like!! 😂😂😂
