    Loved this video and what you said is so true - I've collected PCE stuff for years and yet still a couple of games in there that I hadn't heard of?? Didn't think this was possible - especially shooters on the platform. Always something to discover with this hobby!

    The PC Engine version of Ninja Gaiden is gem, for sure. It's my favorite over Nintendo's, Sega Master System's, and most definitely over Atari's. The colors are nice, and the slightly different sound track always get stuck in my head.

      @AngryCalvin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was really happy to have it in the PC-Engine mini. I’m glad I collect Japanese minis because the Japanese Famicom version of Ninja Gaiden actually has more reasonable difficulty.

      I played Toilet Kids on my retro handheld emulator and God, it is absolutely bizarre. I didn't really like it. It's so gross that it isn't even cute. And it's not a very good shoot 'em up. Coryoon actually is good though, even though it's hard as hell.

    PC engine CD would be pretty cool to see you cover. I'm always on the look out for some really cool games. it's actually thanks to you that I have a new found appreciation for Saturn games and am praying for more saturn stuff to come back. I ended up buying physicals of saturn games to play them on my pc and also to even just listen to them as soundtracks.

  • @matthewmcree1992
    @matthewmcree1992 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been playing a bunch of emulated games on my retro handheld (there's no way I could afford to amass all these rare games in physical form), and the PC Engine is the console that has grown on me the most by far. There's just something charming about the unique graphical style and sound designs of PC Engine games. I will definitely collect PC Engine games one day when I have actual income.

    Great video, I was lucky to have a friend with a TurboGrafx when it was new, it was so cool and different. Never seen any of these imports, though! PC Engine stuff is interesting and has a distinctively different flavor to it. Would love to see some Super Famicom and PCE CD videos, those are both amazing libraries

    The PC Engine didn’t have much of a presence in Europe, so when the Wii came out with its Virtual Console, despite my decision to still only play old Nintendo and Sega games on their original hardware, I did decide to buy PC Engine games on Virtual Console and I had a blast! I did make an exception to my stance on Nintendo games when Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels came out on Virtual Console, and I did buy a few Neo Geo and Commodore 64 games on the same service too!

    I live in japan right now and ive noticed there is a wide acceptance of poop games for kids. Aside from Oshiri tantei (butt detective) ive also seen a touchscreen game at the arcade where a little kid sits on the toilet shooting toilet paper at colorful turds. People love this stuff!

    Skweek is a port of Super Skweek, a french game that originated on the Atari ST (or maybe the Amiga) and was part of the line-up for the hyped European release of the PC Engine. And then they pretty much did not release it (only limited release in UK and grey import in France).

    Oh hey Time Cruise, one of the few TG-16 games I owned as a kid. It wasn't amazing to me since I didn't like pinball all that much but it was worth a play every once in a while between all the Bonk, Air Zonk, Fantasy Zone and Dead Moon I played religiously.

  • @teyanzi

    Don't know if my favorite game for the system wasn't here because it's considered as one of the best... but Gekibo (Gekisha boy) is an amazing original and fun game that normally doesn't get the credit it deserves.

    I say this as an American who grew up with NES -> SNES/MD -> etc: I would *love* to see you take on the older PC systems that were more popular in Europe - Commodore 64, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, etc. I don't have any nostalgia for them, but as someone who kept up with EVERYthing on the systems I owned and have watched "hidden gems" videos to death, learning about systems that weren't popular over here is like entering a whole other world.
    I love videos from people like Kim Justice, but would really appreciate hearing the thoughts of someone else who has a similar gaming background to myself.
    Because who gives a shit what any specific TH-camr personally has nostalgia for? It's like reading the preambles to food recipes where they talk about their Italian grandmas. I care about what tastes good or plays good, not self-absorbed meandering.
    Really, who sits there and says "Oh, you played such and such when you were a kid? That's sooo interesting."

    For part 2 video of PC Engine games, add in some 2D fighting games and there were tons that never saw daylight in North America.
    Include games like:
    -Street Fighter II Champion Edition
    -Fatal Fury Special
    -Art Of Fighting
    This is not a bluff, PC Engine did get some SNK Neo Geo games in their library via Super CD and add-on

    I love your vids, but the thing I like this more is that you disclose how much the going rate is for a title on the retro market.
    I picked up Pacman World in a carboot sale here in the UK for £1, buried in a box, proper mint condition too... Its going for £20-£25 on eBay.
    Few more boot sales later... Well, a lot more bootsales later... Castlevania Chronicles cropped up... Tenner... I looked on eBay... Well over £100 last I checked!
    I've never had any others, but bought some great "If less worth valuable" titles on the way, but, you never know! ;)
    Hence why I like the inclusion of the going rate... You just never know when you might stumble on a bit of a rarity! :)

      @@SegaLordX That makes sense.
      Well, thinking again, PC Engine was not that popular outside Japan. I mean... I live in Brazil and it's very rare to see someone who have played it. I wanted one when I was a kid and checked the games in the magazines, but I only bought when internet (and eBay) became a common thing. So Coryoon being a rare game... Yeah, the "?" in the title makes sense. It depends on the viewer experience.

    The UK was supposed to he getting the stripped down version of the PC Engine, no data bus to connect CD Drive to.. This would mean it could be sold £20-30 cheaper and arrive on UK shores in the Autumn of 1990 and sell for around £100.

    Not a huge fan of Truxton on PCE. It's not bad or anything, but something just feels off about it to me, especially when comparing it to the Genesis version. Some of the color is nice, though.
    Even though there are loads of shooters on the system, one of the less popular ones I kind of like is Sinistron. Music loops way too fast, but it was still a fun game.

      No it was more like a Master system on Steroids, it simply didn't have the CPU speed and parallax capabilities of the MD nor the custom screen/scaling-rotation abilities of the SNES, it was a very cool cross gen system, but by 1989 it wasn't turning anymore heads.

    I'm pretty jealous that people like you consider 8,16,32 bit era looking for games to discover. I was pretty active game developer when browser games were a thing. My latest creations can still be seen in my website (www.digitalraiders.com) I'm pretty fond of Anticlea: Princess of Thieves. I was inspired by some elements from stealth games and also puzzle games from Alundra.

      Amiga would be easy. I've played very little of its library.
