  • Don McCullin is essentially what the British refer to as 'old school' -- both in manners (impeccable), demeanour, charm and career outlook - what if Canon CPN could document Don McCullin's journey into shooting with digital cameras, in this case the Canon EOS 5D Mark III?
See the complete story of one of the world's greatest living photographers. CPN has recently been highly privileged to become involved in a major film project with this giant of photography.

We often underestimate what we have thanks to technology. Until someone shows you how such a simple thing as auto focus can be so much relief.

25:32 WOW, that quote hit hard, this old dude is so damn self-aware and prophetic, no amount of my instinctual inner cynicisms could ever even slightly obscure or refute the wisdom this man just shared with me, real wisdom of the most rare and pure form that I can see and touch and make use of in my life... I've never heard of Don McCullin, not before this video, and I dunno why the hell youtube put this in my feed, but I am grateful that they did

You can tell he loves shooting more than his own selfish preferences. Will to try new technology for the sake of a picture says alot. I love people who love

My choice of lenses are 60, 90 mm and 28 .
I keep the 60 on the camera for most walkabout and avoid the kit zoom .
    Nice shots .
I too took a while shifting away from film to digital and have no interest leaving it now that I have found it.

Great short film. Great marketing for Canon. Great to see to Don out and about. His (digitised) shots looked great (regardless of the technology, he has a great photographers eye)... and great to see Jeff... I last saw him personally in 2012/13 at the Photography show at the NEC, doing a talk on the perils of wedding photography. It was so great, I stayed way longer and nearly missed my 150 mile ride home. Worth it though. Great indeed !

When you start thinking that you are a good photographer ...........it's time to watch a Don McCullin documentary, or look at his books. It re-calibrates your opinion of yourself.

At 06:30 Don has a bit of a rant about photographers " chimping " .. Yet I watched his documentary when he's in Kolkata and I caught him chimping the screen after at least 6 different shots. So much for this discipline that he wont give up, he guaranteed .. hmmm.

I fully agree with Don McCullin, the chosen picture, has to be fully complete. For some to use other software programs that then, alter that chosen image, in some ways is not the... clarity... of image that I personally would choose. For to have your individual senses in.. . *That fast flowing moment*.. You have to be... Right there too... *
