I didn't think the 2006 FSN was bad; it was good enough to get me hooked on the Fate franchise even though it did fall a bit short of the VN. I thought the Fate route ending was bittersweet because even though they fell in love, Shirou and Saber were forced to part so it was a bittersweet ending. Its bound to happen when masters and servants fall in love since servants cannot stay in the world without the grail.

I think it's the purest route if that makes any sense? It has the most straightforward story but it's also more genuine and good hearted. UBW there's a spin on this story and it feels slightly more cynical, and then that all culminates in HF when everything is corrupted
Hmm. I say the bittersweet ending is beautiful rich with meaning and a beautiful desire to meet each other again. It was a very unexpected ending, but I'm still salty the two cannot be together (in life, like fushigi yugi OVA's. They should have ended it without those damnable episodes). Saber is my favorite pairing for shirou because the two are so similar, good self sacrificing fools whose selflessness leads to their destruction, who uphold standards of morality no matter how much they are criticized for it. I felt that due to such similarities they are each others salvation as they make each other value themselves and thus the relationship has more complexity and meaning than it would initially seem to. I too agree that the other routes are good especially because we see more character development for shirou, but saber may be the only one to truly understand Shirou and vice versa. As much as rin or sakura love him, i can't picture them truly understanding shirou on a more fundamental level. At least when they meet in avalon the two have eternity together in peace.
To me Rin is the best girl, but the love story with Saber in this route was much better handled than the other routes. That is why I call this first route the Romance Route. ShirouxSaber as a couple just have more chemistry than the others.
In the secret ending of the visual novel, they are both reunited in Avalon. It ends with them both meeting and then it says Fin. I assume this is the true or perfect ending of the overall series. The ending is entitled "the Last Episode"

This scene made me cried so much. There's just something that doesn't meant to be even if you hope for it for so much.. gladly I watched the Last episode of the VN and there they met and end up together..:) truly their love story is quite amazing! The best anime for me..:)
you know the best part of that is... the PS2 version came out 2 years after the initial release of the PC visual novel, so, by that time, everyone had somehow accepted this ending as it is. and then, boom, they twisted it semi-perfectly (at least it doesnt look forced to me) and made it a happy ending, making the True Ending way more impactful than it could be. And that is just super clever.
To quote Aunt May from Spiderman 2: "Sometimes in order to do what's right we have to give up what we want most, even our dreams." Those words speak loudly in this scene. 😢
oh well guys , they actually meet in the end. Saber went to Avalon after her death because she endedthe contract with the World. And Emiya too went to Avalon though much later but they actually reunited. This is the true ending , and a good one.
I balled my eyes out at these scenes. As someone who watched the Fate anime starting with 2014 UBW, then Fate Zero, then the Heavens Feel movies, then finally this 2006 Fate route, I can honestly say this 2006 Fate route is the perfect way the cap off the anime series and should 100% be watched last. The experiences and story between Shirou and Saber all come full circle when you watch this last. It is such a heart felt and touching goodbye after everything that happened in UBW, HF, and Zero. To see Saber finally let go of her regrets and realizing that Kiritsugu never betrayed her made me cry.
Similar to full metal alchemist, one can say that this version of Fate/Stay is like Full Metal Alchemist 2003, both are not true to their original source.
He has his own Chapter which saved the entire FGO game at that time. Please don't mention the movie. Please. There is no movie for Camelot, one of the greatest FGO chapter of all time. PLEASE DON'T MENTION THE MOVIE I BEG YOU

I'm way too late here too, your definitely not wrong, these are two people from two different eras but it didn't stop them from falling in love. These are two who push each other's ideals and hopes to the limit, perfect for each other. They are literally perfect for each other due to Shirou being her long lost scabbard.
A Ghoul Ikr! I only found out by searching what the after credits scene meant in UBW. But I’m too lazy to watch the events again, so I’m just gonna stick with UBW. Besides, I like Rin more. Anyone can love Saber. She’s nigh perfect. Yet that’s her problem. She doesn’t feel as human as Rin. I like that rin has issues. The fact I can like her despite her flaws proves that I like her. This is the only route I accept as canon. I literally can’t watch this without crying. I don’t know why people disliked the 2006 adaptation so much. Was it UBW? No, but it was a great story with an emotional ending. I really wish they’d remake the fate route. Saber is best girl and deserves it.

I tried my absolute best to hold back my tears but when the ending song played, I gave up 😥😢😭 and they flowed out like a river fall. Especially you should read the lyrics of the song - It isn't a coincidence that the two of us have met - I just couldn't hold it anymore. Studio Deens Fate had its flaws but it didn't fail to make me love Shirou and Saber this much and cry at the end. I really hope Fate stay night gets a remake with the true ending animated.
Ugh, wow. I've only ever seen the Ufotable UBW route, I'd always heard the studio Deen was crap but this ending kinda blows the UBW ending out of the water. Why are my feels hurting so much? :(
Do not listen to other's . I made that mistake as well. Out of the three fate routes,this is the best one for me.The romance in this one just destroys my emotions everytime because it is very raw and simple. That is how it should be in my opinion. Besides the music is out of this world !
It generally consider even without deen adaptation that Fate route is the weakest of the 3 because it is the introduction. It has a powerful romance but an extremely weak cast with potential that only explored in other route. What Fate route did best however is delivering the most powerful ending in all 3 routes for the VN at least. UBW and HF end with a more happy ending but they hardly mean anything beside the war is over and everybody is happy. The fate route end with shirou wishing and dreaming that one day he will be with saber reinforced by the ending of the actual visual novel that throughout all hardship, shirou finally reach his Utopia that he been fighting for so long to be with his faithful companion in all 3 routes.
I have watch this series many times and this particular ending for this series many many times as well. It is a truly remarkable ending that I still haven't forgot about it. Never thought they would create Unlimited Blade work and Heaven Feel's too

I remember watching this. For the first time ever, I stayed up all night just to finish this then I then this is what happened. It left me so sad I don't even want to watch the other Fate series anymore.
I expected this ending due to the legend of King Arthur. Though I had hope it was different because it was an anime. I guess I had my hopes up for nothing.
Well, the Realta Nua version of the VN has an epilogue scene that the author described as the ‘true ending’ to the 'fate' story. And while I was still pissed by this ending it somwhat eased my pain ( though I'd still punch Nasu in the face, would he be in front of me right now, just less violently ).
In terms of what King Arthur did when Arthur was on her/his deathbed, they did order Bedivere to throw the sword into the lake, reuturning it to Nimue the lady of the lake, the one who forged Excalibur and Avalon, so that the blessings of both will be removed from him/her so that Arthur can die and go to Avalon. Then in the Realta Nua Ending, she waits for him so that the two can be reunited.
I feel like there could've been a little more emotion in her departure, maybe a kiss, a hug, or at least some tears. I mean how'd you feel if you were leaving someone you loved forever or someone you loved is leaving you forever. Still a beautiful story though.
Well thing is Shirou puts himself in a state that he doesn't deserve to have Saber even in the VN. But thing is he really loves Saber and can't just leave her especially after seeing her past and understanding her more, so all he wished for was to know if Saber loves him or not since he has already confessed that he loves her but she didn't give an answer yet. That's why just by hearing from Saber that she loves him, he is satisfied because that's all he wishes for.
Ufotables version is very good but this one has a more mystical feeling to it almost like the first time i watched Harry Potter or read the lord of the rings. Ubw seems like a standard superpower anime compared to this.

It was kind of confusing when i played the VN (Realta Nua), I feel like in combination of watching the anime AND playing the game I understand a bit more of what happened (anime ending didn't tell the full tale of how bediviere re-visited arthur 3 times before throwing sword back to lake)

Fate stay night delivers the most powerful ending out of the 3 routes. Having to part ways with your lover after finally being able to admit their love for each other, all the time they’ve spent together just springs up in your feelings when you reach this scene. This ending left the many Japanese viewers who watched the show in 2006 very heartbroken thats why Type Moon just decided to create a last episode happy ending for Saber in Realta Nua. Even I cried a lot when I watched this scene, I cried even more at the last moment when Saber lying under the tree and then the ending song played. Fate stay night was the most memorable Fate Imo, everytime I think of Fate, the first thing that comes to my mind is this Fate stay night. UBW doesn’t leave that much of an impression on me like Fate stay night does.
I just got done watching fate/stay night ubw anime series and man it bring back old memories...I'm gonna rewatch FSN again for the fourth time...can't wait for heaven's feel coming out in 2017 and hopefully FHA get an anime adaptation as well

Poor Bedivere, being the few survivor of the Knight of The Round during the final battle, witness his king last moment in his own eyes and the last request that will guaranteed kill his King if he return the Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake and watch his reaction when Saber said if she ever return to the same dream again he is really in pain and on the verge of crying of lying to his own king to make sure his highness died in peace or when in the middle of the returning Excalibur you can see that Bedivere almost cry by that action is really a stab in the heart

I consider Fate route weaker than the other routes. But I like it so much... this ending is simple the best one of all other endings in VN. Sad, tragic, but truly beautifull...
I've managed to survive the old humor which is pretty great i'd say. On this generation it might be called cringe by now i couldn't agree more but somehow, watching the last episode put a hole in my heart
You guys should watch the realta nua ending of the fate stay night visual novel, it coincides with the ending in the anime and gives a proper ending to this beautiful story.

i really would like to see a shirou like the one in Unlimited Blade Works film and a story from Fate/Stay Night (the Fate route) with the ending where they meet again in Avalon like in the Visual Novel, plus if they put some great soundtrack and animation like in Fate/Zero it will become one of the greatest anime ever. I know they're doing a remake that will follow the UBW route but even so i can't feel fulfilled cuz like in the film there's no love between Shirou and Saber :'(

@@elementplasma9698 actually I haven't watched it but I heard the pacing and animation is absolutely terrible in the first film, the second is much better but still fails at pacing. Considering its excellent source material, the movie is a letdown. I suppose you haven't played the FGO game yet?

I'm way too late here too, your definitely not wrong, these are two people from two different eras but it didn't stop them from falling in love. These are two who push each other's ideals and hopes to the limit, perfect for each other. They are literally perfect for each other due to Shirou being her long lost scabbard.

Besides, I like Rin more. Anyone can love Saber. She’s nigh perfect. Yet that’s her problem. She doesn’t feel as human as Rin. I like that rin has issues. The fact I can like her despite her flaws proves that I like her. Is that weird?

It's bittersweet ending but that's why I love Fate series a lot.
This is the only route I accept as canon. I literally can’t watch this without crying. I don’t know why people disliked the 2006 adaptation so much. Was it UBW? No, but it was a great story with an emotional ending. I really wish they’d remake the fate route. Saber is best girl and deserves it.

i think the reason people and fate fans hate this ending/route is because Shirou never grow up as a Person and still a Childish Hero of Justice and never change his ideal or point of view till the end, his memetic status as a Moron who said People die when they get killed thanks to a CERTAIN SUB doesn't help his reputation either, sure he have a development such as willing to fight Berserker, Gilgmesh and Kirei or Spare and make friend with Rin and Illya and Conform Saber in her most Saddest by always cheer her up and always beside her everytime Saber was Alone but that is Lackluster and consider by people and Especially fans as Reckless Moron who challenge a Impossible and win only through a shear of Plot Armor and Some Macguffin Bullshit (Avalon)
And while in UBW and Especially Heaven Feel Shirou learn to grow up and mature in hard way. in UBW he learn that Archer is Him in the Future and Brutally Beat Up and Mock by Archer for his Childish Idealism and eventually accepted his fault and his immaturity or Heaven's Feelby Learn Sakura horrific abusive past by Zouken and Shinji and Horrifying Revelation by Kirei that Grail is Nothing more Than a Vessel of God of All Evil, and is responsible for Fuyuki Fire in Fate/Zero

Still it had impact on me but I watched even sadest anime so I basically got used to sad scenes
I tried my absolute best to hold back my tears but when the ending song played, I gave up 😥😢😭 and they flowed out like a river fall. Especially you should read the lyrics of the song - It isn't a coincidence that the two of us have met - I just couldn't hold it anymore. Studio Deens Fate had its flaws but it didn't fail to make me love Shirou and Saber this much and cry at the end. I really hope Fate stay night gets a remake with the true ending animated.

Do not listen to other's . I made that mistake as well. Out of the three fate routes,this is the best one for me.The romance in this one just destroys my emotions everytime because it is very raw and simple. That is how it should be in my opinion. Besides the music is out of this world !

It generally consider even without deen adaptation that Fate route is the weakest of the 3 because it is the introduction. It has a powerful romance but an extremely weak cast with potential that only explored in other route.
What Fate route did best however is delivering the most powerful ending in all 3 routes for the VN at least. UBW and HF end with a more happy ending but they hardly mean anything beside the war is over and everybody is happy.
The fate route end with shirou wishing and dreaming that one day he will be with saber reinforced by the ending of the actual visual novel that throughout all hardship, shirou finally reach his Utopia that he been fighting for so long to be with his faithful companion in all 3 routes.

It's been a while since an anime made me shed a tear.
I remember watching this. For the first time ever, I stayed up all night just to finish this then I then this is what happened. It left me so sad I don't even want to watch the other Fate series anymore.
hehe, i watched the anime before doing the entire Visual novel, the ending in the novel hits you 10x harder D: was stuck depressed for a week or so
I expected this ending due to the legend of King Arthur. Though I had hope it was different because it was an anime. I guess I had my hopes up for nothing.
Well, the Realta Nua version of the VN has an epilogue scene that the author described as the ‘true ending’ to the 'fate' story.
And while I was still pissed by this ending it somwhat eased my pain ( though I'd still punch Nasu in the face, would he be in front of me right now, just less violently ).
In terms of what King Arthur did when Arthur was on her/his deathbed, they did order Bedivere to throw the sword into the lake, reuturning it to Nimue the lady of the lake, the one who forged Excalibur and Avalon, so that the blessings of both will be removed from him/her so that Arthur can die and go to Avalon. Then in the Realta Nua Ending, she waits for him so that the two can be reunited.
I feel like there could've been a little more emotion in her departure, maybe a kiss, a hug, or at least some tears. I mean how'd you feel if you were leaving someone you loved forever or someone you loved is leaving you forever. Still a beautiful story though.
They shall meet again in Avalon.
Saber isn't really the emotional type she's pretty tough actually to me its perfect tbh can't get enough of it
Well thing is Shirou puts himself in a state that he doesn't deserve to have Saber even in the VN. But thing is he really loves Saber and can't just leave her especially after seeing her past and understanding her more, so all he wished for was to know if Saber loves him or not since he has already confessed that he loves her but she didn't give an answer yet. That's why just by hearing from Saber that she loves him, he is satisfied because that's all he wishes for.
Ufotables version is very good but this one has a more mystical feeling to it almost like the first time i watched Harry Potter or read the lord of the rings. Ubw seems like a standard superpower anime compared to this.

It was kind of confusing when i played the VN (Realta Nua), I feel like in combination of watching the anime AND playing the game I understand a bit more of what happened (anime ending didn't tell the full tale of how bediviere re-visited arthur 3 times before throwing sword back to lake)

Fate stay night delivers the most powerful ending out of the 3 routes. Having to part ways with your lover after finally being able to admit their love for each other, all the time they’ve spent together just springs up in your feelings when you reach this scene. This ending left the many Japanese viewers who watched the show in 2006 very heartbroken thats why Type Moon just decided to create a last episode happy ending for Saber in Realta Nua. Even I cried a lot when I watched this scene, I cried even more at the last moment when Saber lying under the tree and then the ending song played. Fate stay night was the most memorable Fate Imo, everytime I think of Fate, the first thing that comes to my mind is this Fate stay night. UBW doesn’t leave that much of an impression on me like Fate stay night does.
Atleast Illya survived in this route unlike UBW.
Actually Nasu confirm Illya can live 1 year after Saber destroy Grail and she will die.
To make this a bit less sad according to this ending Shirou becomes a Heroic Spirit to meet her in the afterlife.

I just got done watching fate/stay night ubw anime series and man it bring back old memories...I'm gonna rewatch FSN again for the fourth time...can't wait for heaven's feel coming out in 2017 and hopefully FHA get an anime adaptation as well

It didn't exist yet. They adapted the anime too quickly because Realta Nua (released shortly after the anime was) introduced the reunion in Avalon.

Poor Bedivere, being the few survivor of the Knight of The Round during the final battle, witness his king last moment in his own eyes and the last request that will guaranteed kill his King if he return the Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake and watch his reaction when Saber said if she ever return to the same dream again he is really in pain and on the verge of crying of lying to his own king to make sure his highness died in peace or when in the middle of the returning Excalibur you can see that Bedivere almost cry by that action is really a stab in the heart

I've managed to survive the old humor which is pretty great i'd say. On this generation it might be called cringe by now i couldn't agree more but somehow, watching the last episode put a hole in my heart
You guys should watch the realta nua ending of the fate stay night visual novel, it coincides with the ending in the anime and gives a proper ending to this beautiful story.

i really would like to see a shirou like the one in Unlimited Blade Works film and a story from Fate/Stay Night (the Fate route) with the ending where they meet again in Avalon like in the Visual Novel, plus if they put some great soundtrack and animation like in Fate/Zero it will become one of the greatest anime ever. I know they're doing a remake that will follow the UBW route but even so i can't feel fulfilled cuz like in the film there's no love between Shirou and Saber :'(
