Shame that this didn't get made into a series or that Hayao Miyazaki never revisited it or anything like that. It looks like it could have been charming, just from this pilot.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing, I really needed a good copy of this pilot film. It definitely fits within the time period, after Lupin III, Panda Kopanda, and the scuttled Pipi Longstockings, while also anticipating Heidi, Marco, and Anne. This was Hayao Miyazaki's 2nd directorial work, and first time flying solo (he paired with Takahata on Lupin III). Very impressive!
My thanks as well. I didn't know this existed. I thought I had seen most of what Miyazaki had been involved with since I spotted 'Wonderful World of Puss 'N Boots' on U. S.televison way, way back in 1969 (when I was a very little guy). Of course, I didn't know he was involved with that film until I found out who Miyazaki was when I re-discovered him in the '80s.
I know yours is an old comment but I just came by it. This is actually Miyazaki's directorial debut, and it's an adaptation of a manga by Tetsuya Chiba, creator of Ashita no Joe.
I wish this would have been made into a series. The pilot is delightful.
This was apparently based on manga that was published back in 1963. Wonder how close to that this was.
Heidi: A Girl of the Alps is probably the closest you can get to this

I laughed each time she would get so happy she would hit people! X)
Imagine Candy White being that ballsy in her show!

うれしいとスコップで叩いたり、平手打ちしたり、悲しみに耐えながらと説明されながら、列車でりんごをモリモリ食ってたり、なんだこの面白い女の子はw
伝説の幸せな女の子
Thank you so much for this! Very beautiful ❤
intro reminds me of Heidi :) very cute
I used to watch Heidi.
Wow another thing done by hayoa Miyazaki
So this is somewhat Miyazaki’s answer to “Candy Candy”!
This was animated in 1972, a couple of years before Candy Candy's debut.
Damn, now i wanna know where the plot would've gone. I wonder if Miyazaki remembers?
This is so bad and funny and i love it
BAD?
Interesting idea. Like his Pipi Longstocking sketches that never were made into a series..
It's a shame there are giant unremovable subtitles covering 1/3 of the screen
Wondering what Hayao Miyazaki would think of this if he sees it now
3:57 literally Toph
The stereotype of Miyazaki's strong young female leads. From th quality, I take this is taken from a DVD, whih one?

3:05 Is that Lupin o.0?
Solo vine aqui por chiba tetsuya ❤
*SMACK LMAO 💀
This was based on a manga, I think.
Wow, their scripts have been always so bad and absurd...as written by a crazy ape 😂
