Unrelated question: are they still in our home galaxy, the milky way?

Yep. Since when they escaped they were like 6 lights years away from earth, I'm think that's still within the milky way

@@my_lost_and_found_podfics So I looked it up and the milky way is ~ 53000 light-years from one end to the other, with the closest star to the sun, Proxima Centauri, being around 4.247 light years away from us.
Yeah, definitely within our galaxy. 6 light years wouldn't even be that far by galactical standards. (Or their universe is fundamentally different from ours, totally up to you.)
Your story is awesome by the way!! Definitely one of my favorites I've ever read/listened to!
