This is so beautiful. I'm so happy that after all the bullshit this genius needed to withstand, he triumphed. This song is a masterpiece. Rest in peace Alex.
2:20 in and he allows a little smile, he's nailed the riff a couple of times, the sound is ok and the band have hit the groove running. He knows he can just unleash the goods now.
Attendance Bias It was supposed to be addressed to the entitled “Dead Head” complaining on here. I agree it’s silly out of context, but real as a heart attack taken within context.
Great performance. It's good they didn't go the 'tribute band' route and really try to recreate the recorded song. It's raucous and is certainly reverential to the original but it's still vital and sounds like a new song, not a worn 20-year-old warhorse.
Thanks for posting!!! Raw, on target...to "Dharma Bum": you don't get it. Maybe you just want to have rock'n'roll served up like a neat little pre-packaged candy treat.
LOL. GFY Terry! Raw?? hahahah.. the recording is shit. If you think that is a good recording, you have no clue pal. It's boomy as hell. If you dig that aesthetic, more power to ya. Did ya even listen to the whole album?
whomever recorded this show really needs to find a different profession. It is just sooooo bad. I can't believe they actually packaged and sold it to the public. The performance is great but the recording is thumbs waaaaay down.
@@queenhenryviii in the street was the only song recorded with a camera microphone. Soundboard feed was engaged after that (supposedly). I love lo-fi but overall, this sounds so boomy. I do think it sounds better later on.

Alex Chilton, 10 years gone. We miss you, maestro.
Ken Stringfellow. I will never forget you and I am so glad you got to play with Big Star!

Genius the best unknown band of all time
I was at this show! Two nights later they played this on Jay Leno !

Hello Wisconsin!
Alex never played the solo on "In the Street" the same way twice.
my hero
That magnificent voice. Breaks my heart every time.
My goodness. Unparalleled.
Damn good reason Paul Westerberg wrote a song about Chilton.
We're all alright! Memphis!!
Dam, Chris Bell passed back in 1978.. R.I.P. Chris..
Nicely done.
Better than Cheap Trick.
I know it's too late but I like to think that guys who came up with the best song for TV show intro I really missed that 70 show.
Thank you very much.
Still sounds 1,000 times better than anything the Dead ever recorded!
Well this is just silly.

I think I see Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen in the audience
Nice job!
Thanks
Alex Chilton the great singer and songsmith who didn't want to be a big star.
That 70s show brought me here. It reminds me of I Got You by Wilco.
Jeff Tweedy is a pretty big fan of Big Star; you can definitely hear their influence on some of the songs from Being There.
Jeff Tweedy covers Thirteen, does a good job too. I'll assume you've heard it tho

Dude, it was from ‘94. They didn’t have readily available mass produced hand held digital HD cameras…
