How the US is Scrambling to Stop Ukraine Peace Plan by China & Brazil w/ Vijay Prashad

  • While world leaders prepare to convene in Switzerland for a “peace summit” ostensibly called to advance peace in Ukraine despite excluding Russia from the meeting, Brazil and China have proposed an alternative. Both countries released a joint statement calling for an international peace conference with equal participation from both Russia and Ukraine. Vijay Prashad, the Executive Director of the Tricontinental Institute, calls the Switzerland summit a “facade” and explains how the US and NATO are thwarting any real chances for peace.

Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements.
Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time.

I would rather say we wont have peace as long as fascists/colonialists are allowed to dominate a society. We need to teach our children about the consequences of having a mindset of exceptionalism, expansionism and militarism = I have the right to use force (military/sanctions/coups etc) in order to achieve unlimited growth of my culture/race/religion/, because I am superior.

The Paris Peace Accords, officially the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Viet Nam, was a peace agreement signed on January 27, 1973, to establish peace in Vietnam and end the Vietnam War.The US had to attend because it was being beaten on the ground, and
antiwar protests had gone on for years putting more pressure on at home, and they needed to find a way out- so-called "peace with honor". Of course it wasn't that at all, it was the final defeat of all the efforts to prop up and keep a South Vietnam puppet government in place from the early 60's on. The only thing "accomplished" was the senseless deaths of millions. In the end, Vietnam was unified.

But the US is getting weak, thats is a good thing.. US Army is getting smaller. Young people not anymore willing to enjoy the army, they wanna also peace and not war. The U.S. Army is as small today as it was in 1941. The problem where they have is,that people are retiring or leaving the army. But fewer young people decide to join the army.

It is an opportune moment for the European nations to sit across with the Russians and come to a solution of lasting peace and not treat each other with suspicion.we should remember that during the Second World War the contribution of Russia and they lost millions of lives . Suspicion should be replaced with cooperation . The European countries would be turned into an economic powerhouse.

Russia could be sending a "Gaido" type of figure. Let's keep in minf that the legitimately, and democratically, elected government of the Ukraine was overthrown in 2014 (Cookies Nuland) and that the case can be made that Yanukovic is STILL the legitimate leader of the Ukraine. In addition, both Poroshenko's and Zelenski's elections took place after many opposition parties were banned and large parts of the ethnic-Russian part of the Ukraine were not allowed to vote, these things further deligitimising the legality of the governments in power in the Ukraine since 2014, and now Zelenski, after suppressing opposition and cancelling the elections, is blatantly illegitimate. Cue Yanukovic...

As we rewrite history, I think we should reconsider how we interpret Lenin and the USSR. Lenin was an industrial republican. He was not a democrat in the high age of mass Fordist democracy. We should understand Lenin as a continental emancipator akin to Simon Bolivar or George Washington. He industrialized and transformed the Russian empire into an industrial republic of national party-states. China owes its success partly to its unrepentant Leninism. The USSR was a Leninist-Stalinist experiment that failed. China is a Leninist-Capitalist experiment i.e. a national party-state that has built up a new international industrial republic, not through bolshevism but through integration into Western capitalism. Lenin as an ideological figure was a failure by any stretch, and someone should dump his preserved mummy in the Tiber like some medieval pope. He was an ideological disaster. But as a national revolutionary, his achievement stands as grand as any before him, including Napoleon his mimetic predecessor.

Why doesn't Russia's offensive spark conflict? The withdrawal of Russian troops would end the conflict completely. The cessation of active actions along the demarcation line would be the beginning of a freeze.
Russia is advancing and therefore fueling the conflict and therefore Ukraine needs protection. Let me remind you that Ukrainian cities are bombed every day. This cannot be a demonstration of readiness to negotiate.

Enough of the pro-Russia talking points.
The Budapest Memorandum, agreed to by The UK, US, and Russia, guaranteed the territorial integrity of Ukraine in exchange for surrendering their nuclear arsenal. If Russia is allowed to conquer territory in Ukraine, even one square foot, two messages are sent to the world: security guarantees from the United States are worthless, and everyone better get a nuclear arsenal because you're on your own.

Very good point, and by your logic, it validates North Korea having acquired nukes. Let's remember what happened to them when both Iraq and Libya were tricked into abandoning their nuclear weapons programs and lost the means to defend themselves by the nuclear option. Your logic also validate that Iran should get nukes (a constant unproven accusation) as well as others which have been "on their own" and under serïus threats from the US for decades, countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua amongst many others....let's arm them all with nukes then!
By the way, the Ukraine never owned the nukes on their territory nor had the launch codes and control of them. As they couldn't afford their upkeep or disposal, the US begged Russia to take over the job of cleaning up what would have eventually been a dangerous mess the Ukrainians were not prepared or willing to deal with.

Ukraine was part of the USSR. You do realize Moscow controlled the nuclear codes not Ukraine..when the USSR collapsed in 1991 those nuclear weapons went back to Moscow. Give the whole information not just a false narrative.

Now that China has made it very clear that their 'no limits' partnership with Russia includes military support as and when deemed necessary by either partner, the combined military productive capacity of their partnership should have the more rational military heads within the NATO+ project warning the U.S. administration about the difficulty of weakening let alone defeating Russia and or China using conventional weapons. The use of nuclear weapons is another MAD story; hopefully for another never to be day.

Some things that influence what has been said massivly, but wasen't maneitond so far.
    1. China made teh first peace proposal and was dismissed, what is a terribly insult in the easter world (in China and Russia specially severe). So everyone makinga new proposal - no matter how fake - and most of the nation going to join in can be sure to not have much freinds in China for a long time to come.
    2. China and India are now in a state of trading/cold war and very much not friends, in opposite, alomst at the brink of sea skirmishes
    3. India under Modi is dead and a threat for the russian-chinese alliance, as Moodis fascist ethno state laws and actions even struck these two players with severe concerncs. Lavrov has allready fed Modi to the fishs in a interview he had with the indian head of state and the real leadership in power the buisness people).
    4. RU at this point has neither the will not the chance to sell a peace treaty to ther people, that once again has been showered with NATO hate. Russia now need to show power, and the ukrainain army is allready broken (what btw. allignes with the strategical goals of RU - to disarm UA and make it inahabitable for any further NATO medling into this nation at ther border). Not only the complete destruction of western arsenals (and the tied propaganda belives of western technological dominance) and - if needet - the complete dissolution of the ukrainian military can calm the enraged voters in RU. If Putin would settle now, he could face severe backlash in the next election.
    5. Despite on the same page with RU in terms of the USA, China still wants to take minimal damage in economical terms. This is allready sabotaged by the US who try to make India, Phillipines, South Korea and Japan proxi battlefields. So China is attacked in terms of saving face, saving ther economical postion and saving alliances.
    6. Remember that all peace talks on Türkish ground include a strong and nationalistical organised radical islam, which both China and Russia are pretty allergic too. Also teh last talks have been ignored by Ukrain and imeadatly used to gein military benefits, so RU might be *pretty* unwilling to give an inch in anything that slightly seems like again reaching a hand, just for geting slaped and laughed by the west once more.
