Raisen city was established by Maharaja Raising ji in 1143 AD and during that time the present fort was constructed. This fort is a wonderful testimony of ancient architecture and quality construction, which even after the passage of many centuries, stands stoic in the same way. The written history of this fort is about 800 years old.
Made of sandstone, this fort is surrounded by huge rock walls. These walls have nine gates and 13 bastions. Raisen Fort has a splendid history. Many kings have ruled here,
Sher Shah Suri had made artillery by smelting copper coins to win this fort, yet he could not win the fort, Sher Shah resorted to deception to win it in 1543 AD. At that time this fort was ruled by King Puranmal. As soon as he came to know that he had been cheated, he himself beheaded him to save his wife Rani Ratnavali from the enemies.
रायसेन शहर की स्थापना राजा रायसिंह ji ने 1143 ईस्वी में की थी और उस दौरान वर्तमान किले का निर्माण किया गया था। यह किला प्राचीन स्थापत्य और गुणवत्तापूर्ण निर्माण का अद्भुत प्रमाण है, जो कई शताब्दियों के बीत जाने के बाद भी उसी तरह खड़ा है। इस किले का लिखित इतिहास लगभग 800 वर्ष पुराना है।
बलुआ पत्थर से बना यह किला विशाल चट्टानों की दीवारों से घिरा हुआ है। इन दीवारों में नौ द्वार और 13 बुर्ज हैं। रायसेन किले का एक शानदार इतिहास है। यहाँ कई राजाओं ने शासन किया है,
शेरशाह सूरी ने इस किले को जीतने के लिए तांबे के सिक्कों को गलाकर तोपखाना बनाया था, फिर भी वह किले को जीत नहीं पाया, 1543 ई. में इसे जीतने के लिए शेरशाह ने धोखे का सहारा लिया। उस समय इस किले पर राजा पूरनमल का शासन था। जैसे ही उन्हें पता चला कि उनके साथ धोखा हुआ है, उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी रानी रत्नावली को दुश्मनों से बचाने के लिए खुद उसका सिर कलम कर दिया।
