Exactly, as with most things in after effects, its mostly a bunch of simple techniques added up together. Glad it helped out.

Just starting out with AE and I've got to say that this has got to be the best tutorial on Kinetic Typography I've watched. Thank you for this :)

  • @sabrinalancaster

This tutorial was sooo easy to follow and understand and I am fairly new to After Effects but not Adobe and after endlessly searching for a tutorial with someone who took the time to EXPLAIN what to do and how to do it and why, it' refreshing to finally find someone who REALLY knows how to do a tutorial. It will still be hard work, but at least I have something to follow. Thank you so very much.

Thanks! I didn't realize that I needed to have both camera and text movement. Makes a huge difference and it's so simple. I've watched and attempted to replicate other motion graphic tutorials, but they were either too complicated or not the style I was looking for. This was exactly what I needed.

for the camera shake, I just keframed the camera back and forth for a little bit. pretty simple. and as for the camera movements and Orientation, I am only using the camera move tool, its the one that looks like an arrow pointing if 4 directions, and to rotate, I don't use a camera tool, just the rotate parameter in the layer

Thank you for putting this up. Very good overview on how to use AE for creating motion typography. I was able to go from zero knowledge to creating a usable 90 second project in just a few hours. Awesome!

Thanks a lot dude! I was wondering how to do Kinetic Typography for my videos (I have a thick accent which is hard for people to grasp, and Kinetic Typography sounded like what I needed). You do awesome stuff! Keep doing these tutorials, you are awesome! You got yourself a subscriber.

***** you can go into the timeline properties of the camera and rotate them by the numbers, or you can parent all of your text layers to a null and rotate the null. you could even parent your camera to a null and rotate that as well, some people like to do it that way.

    • @LongLiveMikey
      @LongLiveMikey  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

***** This is answering your other question, I have to do it here because comments/replies are disabled on the things you are posting on this video. it would be easier If I could reply straight to your comment, but....
at 5:17 I had everything sped up while I laid everything out for the animation, thats why it was so fast, but to rotate the text I selected both layers, hit "W" on the keyboard (hotkey for the rotate tool) and then rotated them 90 deg.

Great tutorial Mikey! I really like your tip on making a second camera to pan around with so you don't mess up the keyframes. Don't know why I hadn't thought about that before...

not sure exactly what you are meaning, but I had 2 cameras in this comp. 1 as my final output, and the other that I would hide or un hide just to navigate around with. Also the text needs to be 3D in order to be effected by the camera.

Aha! Hadn't thought of that. I'll try that as soon as my exams are over.
    Thank you so much.
Is there a way to only display specific adjustments that we've made instead of everything? For example if I want to adjust the position of a layer and nothing else. Can only have that displayed instead of hitting that arrow on the layer and displaying everything from the point of interest to z-axis? Hope that made sense.

I've been doing kinetic typography in after effects all wrong until i saw this video. You should do an after effects tutorial on how to create backgrounds for corporate videos. I do a lot of corporate videos and I want to do something more than just a blank background but not sure what I can do to make it look cool in after effects.

    • @LongLiveMikey

A Solo Project there is camera movement throughout the video. Quick is the same as the rest, it moves in from the left, Dirty flys down in 3D space, and then I keyframed the comp to shake a little bit.

I actually clicked on your ad planning to write a snarky comment, because frankly, the ad is annoying and I never watched long enough to hear anything about AE tutorials. Never. And I've seen the ad a bazillion times. I'm glad to see the channel is about AE tutorials, and you're quite good at teaching AE techniques. I never would have realized that, though, because in the 5 seconds that your ad has before I clicked "skip" it doesn't reveal what you do, it's all about "clicking subscribe," which sounds like marketing gimmicks. Maybe I'm just slow on the uptake, but I'd recommend making it very clear in the first couple of seconds of your ad that the channel is all AE awesomeness.

Actually, thanks for the feedback. I'm not actually running adds, TH-cam is opted to run them for me, so I can't complain the video they are playing is my Channel Trailer video, so it makes more sense if it is on my channel to play when new people get there the first time. I'll have to create a new video just for TH-cam to promote. Thanks for subscribing.

I have tons of questions but I'll try and ask them one at a time or try and figure them out on my own since I don't want to be a burden.
When you are animating the "Quick & Dirty" part of the text the camera kinda shakes a little. How do you get that effect?
Also when I'm animating the camera it adds a keyframe for the "Orientation" as well. However, in your tutorial it only adds a keyframe for the "Point of Interest" and "Position". Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks again Mikey :)

Mikey, how did you back up at 4:47? What keys are you pressing? The text just rotates in 3d space when I try it. EDIT: I figure it out.. hold ctrl as I move up or down.

If you hit "c" over and over it will cycle through the camera tools. One of them look like a vertical double arrow. That moves the camera forward and back.

ReverbedChipmunks Make sure the layer is 3D, and then reframe the layer moving in Z space. if you adjust the Z position enough, it will look like it goes behind the viewer and you can't see it anymore.
