I'm surprised so many people are confused by the title. Sidereal Confluence is just a convoluted way of saying Cosmic Encounter.
I thought it was a convoluted way of saying "new year"
For the record, here's the translation of the "fantasy alien species trader" at 9:57 : " Nah, we don't want that crap, go away.....away....we already got it.....go away!" XD
I've been eyeing this game since the fantastic Designer Diary was published... This review might push me over the edge. (By the way, this review was so good! You guys have hit a new high, and it's a very tall high, too - Keep up the stellar work!)
Ugh, this is the 2nd reviewer I really, really like that loves this game. I know that it couldn't work at 2p, but man alive, the temptation to associate with more human beings to try this out is real.
In any case, thanks for bringing more eyes on this game. Even if it's not for me, I think the concept is brilliant, and the scaling up to crazy high player counts is something to marvel at.
It was a stretch getting my group to play Great Western Trail - but now we love it. This one's going to be a hard sell...
This is the first NPI review I've seen. Hard to tell if this video is part parody or if you're affiliated with other reviewers, but it's a damn good impression of the SU&SD crew's review style: The delivery. The over-use of metaphor & obscure references. The messy hair. Spot on!

Saw this game at my FLGS last summer and had never heard of it. In an unprecedented move, I bought it based on the description on the back - I think the first game description I've ever actually read on the back of a box (only because most games have an actual picture of the components). It delivered in spades (and space [theme and table] - pun included, but not intended, nor successful). Love it. Glad to hear that you do, too.
Yes, absolutely. One of the best games of 2017. Played twice and can't wait for another play. It's not too long either when you do a 10min time limit on the bidding phase!

Thanks for bringing up the integration of theme in this game. It's a facet that most people/reviewers seem to completely dismiss, but it is there (take a longer look at the line drawings in the backgrounds of your aliens cards) and it doesn't take long before you start thinking of black cubes as information or white as culture etc and why you're alien race may be lacking them. Personally I thought the rulebook was fantastically written and easy to go back to, aside from the fractional scoring error at the back of the book. It even has shorter 'pitches' for all of the aliens that you can read aloud for newer players without having to go through every player sheet and even goes as far as recommending aliens for different types of players or play styles.
First time I’ve watched an NPI video and I instantly subscribed! Love the format, the energy and the humor. And I couldn’t agree more - SidCon is the bomb!
I'm with you. It's fantastic. With more than 4 players, there's nothing I'd rather play from last year. It takes the things I loved most about the trading and teching of Avalon Hill Civilization, opened it way up, made it way more asymmetrical, way shorter, and more fun. Would play anytime a game is offered - so far at 9/8/8/7 and I'm curious about lower counts too.

Sidereal Confluence sounds like an ailment contracted by a tabletop gamer.
Its like the Nth time I heard the complain about the name and, dont get me wrong, I know it is an English name, but... it sounds perfectly normal, even pedestrian, in Spanish or I guess another Romance language.

Out of curiosity, WizKids is definitely not my favorite publisher by any means but did you guys not enjoy Mage Knight? It struck me as a game that stands out surprisingly well against most of the WizKids library.
Also kudos to Efka for the trading clips, that's some crazy courage.
Thanks! I was never that enamored by Mage Knight if I'm honest. I can respect it, but I didn't love it. Clearly it does something for so many people - and that's cool.
As for the bravery part - nah. I've done it once before and after that it's not really intimidating anymore. I'll still take the kudos though, I never turn down a good kudos.
In 2016, Zev, previous owner of ZMan, was hired on by Wizkids to head the board game operations division. I expect we'll see a nice flow of good to great games coming out of Wizkids now.

There was a lot that made me uncomfortable and anxious in this video...
Just got this one and am super excited to get it to the table, though just sorting through the box of STUFF is entirely bewildering!!! (Also, did I miss it, or is there NOTHING in the rulebook or species cards that actually tells you which ships belong to which species?!?) -- Re the skepticism about WizKids I should point out that another smart and much shorter negotiation game was released by them in the same year, Empires--not the depth of Sidereal Confluence but well worth a look. Like S.C. it is doomed by boring cover art and unlike S.C. it is also doomed by an unmemorable, unGoogleable title.
Good news! - all ships are interchangeable. You're well served to simply put them all in a bowl, as an 8th type of resource.
Yeah, they are interchangeable, so maybe a moot point, it's just a little weird for them to nonetheless have different art and also different quantities (some races have fewer ship tokens available, according to the setup instructions).
Indeed, the number of tokens is related to the number of converters that output them. Calyon and Unity, for example, have fewer. You can match the ships up by looking at each race's converter ship icon - which is unique. But again, all that headache is actually a waste of time. My mind is clearer once I started embracing a post-ship-racial setup.

That was a good reason, but then they should have changed the other title too!!
