Buffalo, NY which is my birthplace in the late 1950’s/early to mid 1960’s had Lehigh Valley, Erie Lackawanna, Buffalo Creek, Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo, Nickel Plate, New York Central, Pennsylvania, South Buffalo, Baltimore & Ohio, Wabash, Canadian National & Chesapeake & Ohio railroads serving there and the Niagara Junction in Niagara Falls when it was the true & real Chemical Capital of the world. I used to watch the New York Central freights run by on the line to & from Niagara Falls when I lived in the Sheridan Parkside section of the Town of Tonawanda. Today there’s South Buffalo, Buffalo & Pittsburgh, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, Depew, Lancaster & Western railroad and from Rochester to Niagara Falls-the Falls road railroad.
My Grandfather lived on Linwood Ave in N.Tonawanda about 2 blocks from ex-NYC Niagara Falls line. We visited him each summer in the 1970's from Indiana. One of the things I looked forward to was hearing those PC freights passing in the nite!
Good to see Buffalo being represented like it USED to be. Love it here. It's such a killer place. Especially Fronteir and Bayveiw.. Don't get this kinda action around here anymore, which is sad.
All gone for the most part CSX dominates Frontier yard is gone, CSX's Chessie System sold off it's B&O trackaget to Genesee & Wyoming's Buffalo and Pittsburgh. D&H is gone with a couple Canadian Pacific to operate on Norfolk Southern to Binghamton. Norfolk Southern runs 12+ trains west towards Erie PA and fewer east. A smidgen of shortline and terminal railroads is all that is left.
senecawind yooper Frontier yard is seeing alot more traffic..I live a quarter mile away and hear horns and thumping diesels and rumbling consists coming through..And there is constant switching going on
@meccaturbo The P&LE went belly up and CSX got their trackage, not the company or rolling stock. It was originally "Three Rivers Railway", a ghost railroad I imagine.
