SalamuAlaikum Kajte,
Alif has two roles, one as a consonant which is pronounced in words such as Asad أسد Lion (Initial position) فأر mouse (Medial position) and نبأ news ( Final position). The other role is a long vowel which occurs after a letter to extend its pronunciation as in باب door- بوم owl - تين fig. You can remark that all the long vowels don't have any case marking, especially Alif, it does not occur with a hamza.

@@gulfamkgn8977 it's the feminine Taa, you can pronounce the letter before it with a FATHA (when speaking). E.g Taaliba. In some grammatical cases, it's Taalibatun....
