@@ProjectDanH Do you happen to know which color wires deal with the door locks? I repaired a speaker wire in the door hinge boot, but saw no other bad looking wires, and I'm not great at soldering, so I didn't mess further. I'm going to look at the door lock module in the passenger door.
Your welcome John, I'm pretty sure every 97-01 has this problem haha. a quick heads up, my friend tried this on his 03 Ram switch (they're basically the same) but he said he didn't let the contact cleaner fully evaporate when he plugged it back in for the test. He thinks now one of the switches is permanently shorted out from the contact cleaner. Just an FYI.. good luck man!
I just tried this on my window switches. Do not attempt to remove the buttons, like in the video, if the switch is aftermarket (in my case "Switch Doctor"). The buttons do not pop off like the OEM. The caps are glued to the rest of the button and you will likely mangle them if trying to remove them like in the video (like I did). When you do get them out, the contacts are loose strips of metal inside of the individual switch boxes covered in rubber boots (another difference. The OEM, you can access the contacts, but this aftermarket, they're individual switches are in individual boxes). The contacts are a pain in the ass to reseat when they jumble (which will happen). I didn't know I had an aftermarket master switch until I got it out of the truck (I've only had it for a couple of days). The passenger side was OEM. If it doesn't have a Chrysler logo on the bottom of the switch, then be very careful doing it this way. I hope this helps someone before they decide to try this.
Nice & easy to follow. One problem that nobody has commented on. How the Hell do we know if you actually fixed it? You spent the time going thru the motions,but one may be skeptical as to the results. Plug the damn thing in & put to bed.
Hello, hey when you took that panel off the door. On the inside, the lock arm that is connected with the yellow clip. I need that lock arm. Where can I find one? Thanks!
Its the whole door handle that you would have to replace. they're a little more difficult to replace on the 97-01s as they are plastic welded into the door panel. a little butane lighter will help you pop the plastic welds off. The only problem in finding a replacement door handle. there are some on ebay, but you might be better off replacing the entire interior door card.
I’ll be... That is exactly the problem - the buttons do fly all over the place. Seriously thanks guys. I would have never gotten that solved using my available time money energy equation. Next, on the front driver side window, (while I have this switch apart) I have been getting a clicking noise as soon as the window reaches its fullest upward position - it doesn’t stop attempting to push higher, unless I take my finger off the switch. would something like this also cause only the passenger window to not work? currently the master switch is the only one able to work the windows, but now the passenger window stopped working entirely
I went ahead and re-soldered all the contact. I cleaned the switch contacts the best I could. My problem now is the windows roll down, but NOT up. Any suggestions as to why?. Before this fix, the windows did go up and down using the driver side switches.
Hey Dan, Working on my 99 XJ passenger window (not working). All controls work (windows/locks) on all 4 doors both sides. Except...driver's side control switch for pass window not working but illumination light on. Passenger control switch for window also not working & illumination light also not working. Soldered connections on passenger controls to no success (no work/no light). Bad pass. switch or go to work on driver's side switch panel (had not taken apart yet)? Thanks in advance for your help!
My passenger side window will only rolls up not down. All other windows work. I replaced the master switch with a new one online, I still have the same problem. I also replaced the window regulators on both sides. Any ideas?
Anything is possible! I would assume you'd have to take the auto switch button from 3 other masters switches and then make a mother board to receive all 4 auto switches . I never thought to do that but now I might try!!! What a great mod idea 👌👍
It's been almost 2 years since you shot this video. I think you said the switch was out of a donor car and going into a project car. Have you made the install and did it fix the problem? I sincerely hope so because I have a 99 XJ with the same problems.
My windows only work from the master switch an also my power locks will only do one function from the master switch an its hit or miss if it even works can’t remember if it’s lock or unlock that works I know the passenger door works sometimes the same way
My wife's XJ just started an issue with the locks automatically locking no door fob back doors will be locked you can't move the lock button at all.. then there's some weird noise in the back liftgate like an actuator or motor and then the door's unlock...
Dan, great video as they all are. I have a weird situation with my windows. The Drivers switch can open and close all but the passenger rear window. The passenger front has local control but neither rear windows does. Any idea where to start looking?
Sounds like a broken wire in the pass rear. Check the boot in the door, it's a common failure point. (Maybe examine all the boots while your at it) Try to reflow the master switch circuit board to fix the other controls. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for that, seems I had all three issues, fuse, 2 broken wires and switches to solder...and to think you Americans moan about Italian electrics... Screws twice as long as they need to be running alongside wiring, trims and clips made of cheese, bad earths, looks swathed in brittle plastics and fabric... You saved me a whole heap of trouble and expense that, really, jeep shouldn’t put us through...but nowhere near as bad as Land Rover, but then, what is?

Glad it helped! it's possible there may be a break in the wire harness boot where your door wires go into the body.

Hey Dan, what did you use to put on your jeeps headlights to make them look aggressive? Just regular window tint?
One thing you forgot to mention was to mark the switches so you don’t get the wrong switch hooked up during reassembly.

haha. they do fly! if your switch gets the window to move up and down and it's too slow or gets stuck than it's definitely the regulator

Sounds like both switches could be bad. remember that the solder trick doesn't work in every scenario. Good luck!

Perhaps you have a broken wire somewhere, or Maybe your connecter has a bad spot .
